My smoothing option for brush is not working

My smoothing option is not greyed out it can be put at 100% but the behaviour of the brush stays the same as with smoothing turned off. I just want this "Lazy Mouse" how can I get this to work? Because on my old PC it worked but now on my macbook it is just not working since I installed it. It is just smoothing out the last part of my drawing which is weird as well (shown in the video)

    I had the same issue. Finally tracked it down to needing to enable the Smoothing checkbox.

    Such lame UX to disable some feature and then offer no hover help as to WHY it’s not available.

    Is there any way I can fix this? Because it seems like nobody has any idea.

      Try turning on the Brush Leash visability in Preferences > Cursors

       

      That will give you a better idea of how it is working.  100% smoothing can actually make things worse because the long leash means the brush stroke will be too far behind the cursor to smoothly move through a small radius change of direction.  I'm thinking this effect would be magnified with larger brushes and low spacing because of lag.

       

      If you were still using Windows, you could use Lazy Nezumi Pro, which has much better brush smoothing than Photoshop's native feature.

        Thank you for your answer, but it is still not fixed, I made another video with that setting turned on. It is just not smoothing my brush as it should. How can I fix this? Because I need the lazy mouse feature.

          And no I am a mac user.


          Do us a favour.  Use a much smaller brush size.  10 pixels fully hard round would be good with your 4K canvas.  That will be _much_ better at showing how well smoothing is working.  That big fat preset you are using is disguising any eratic movement.

          Turn the Show Brush Leash on in Preferences Cursor.  We couldn't see the leash in your video, so if you confirm it is enabled and still not visible, then that helps us.  The brush stroke below is with Photoshop smoothing set to 30%

          What are you using to draw with?  Is it a mouse, and if so, which one?

          Is it the same if you use the trackpad?

          Is it the same with the beta version?  If it works OK with the beta version, then I would go ahead and reset preferences for the Release version.

           

          I don't think there would be any API involved with a mouse, and I really don't know a whole lot about how Macs work, so I am running out of ideas.  But do let us know if you can see the leash or not after enabling it iin Preferences?  Use a 10 pixel brush preset, and move the cursor a lot more smoothly.

           

          I'm looking at your video again. I am using the same settings and when I move the cursor fairly quickly, you can see how far the leash extends (this is also a 4K canvas but zoomed at 100%).  

          ISTM that your brush stroke is constantly just behind the cursor, and that shouldn't be the case.  There is just a hint of a majenta line between the centre of the cursor, and the center of the end of the brush stroke.  You can see how that fat line is making it hard to see what is going on.  But with your 4K canvas at 175% zoom and an 89 pixel brush, that leash should be _much_ longer.  Especially with how quickly you are moving the brush.

          What are your settings under smoothing options (click on the cogwheel in the options bar next to the smoothing value to check)?

            To be honest I rarely use smoothing at that high level due to the slow strokes but I tried the same settings here and it looks normal, fast smoothing unless you hold the mouse at the end where there is a slow down toward the catch up. If you lift the pen, or mouse button during that catch up it stops drawing and goes to the next brush stroke.

            I checked this in two versions, Photoshop v26.3 and Photoshop 24.7.5 both worked the same way.
