What program will allow me to edit photos of homes to change decor

Can I take a kitchen photo and edit to show different cabinets or paint colors. Which system will give me the tools to virtually renovate - redecorate a photo of a room.

I would use Dimension;

take photos of the rooms with nothing much in them and add the different cabinets as 3D models

None really are able to do that.  If you are a good editor then you can place items into a scene and even delete items that are already in picture.

But the lighting on the images should be similiar and the angles of the items you are placing into the picture need to be  the same.  You can do it.... but you need to really be good at Photoshop to do so.

I know some stores do have apps in the US that allow you to place their products into a picture.  But you are only covering up items there.  It is not a true editing program.

With 3D software you could create items that match the same angle, render the items... then place them using Photoshop.  But then of course you would need to be good at a 3D program.

Hi

Changing colours is fairly simple in Photoshop. Changing cabinet fronts can be done, using masks and transforms, if you have images of the variations taken from a similar angle and under similar lighting.

If you choose to go down the 3D route I would recommend using a proper 3D application where you will get more control over the modelling, lighting and much faster rendering (most 3D applications will render on the GPU). You can always finish the final composite in Photoshop.

As Just Shoot Me mentioned, there are programs specifically for kitchen design.

Since you are working with photos, of the Adobe applications Photoshop would work best. Changing colors would be easier than changing cabinets. To change cabinets you would need to have photos of all the different cabinets. Ideally, the photos should all be taken with the same lighting and at the same perspective so that you could easily put them on separate layers and not have to do extensive manipulation to them.

Maybe using 3D models (many can be found for free), combined with Photoshop's 3D capabilities, might be an option as well. It might be easier to position the cabinets correctly that way than trying to find pictures from the same angles. Making a nice looking composite would be tricky, in any case.

None really. To do that to a photo IMO would be very hard.

You should look at programs like google Sketch Up or the Home, Kitchen , Bath design programs.
