Why does Photoshop 2022 keep changing my color profile to sRGB from Adobe RGB?

Please do report back on his fix. It seemed a strange situation, the one you described. Adding the solution will help others avoid it.

Thanks for all who have responded so far, sorry for the tone but this is beyond frustrating. I also work full time so can only check in here a couple of times a day. I've been using PS for over 10 years now and in the past everything has run smoothly with only a minor issue or two. Updates are supposed to improve the program and fix bugs, not create them. Again, thanks for the help!

There is a bug in Export As when saving without converting to sRGB (see below)

You can get around it by using Save As or Export > Save for Web Legacy

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post meaningful screenshots. 

What are the Edit > Color Settings? 

How exactly do you create the pngs? You seem to mention »save« and »export«, so what is it?

IF an sRGB file was incorrectly assigned Adobe RGB the colour would actually apppear to be boosted and over saturated, you can test it in Photoshop, take an sRGB image, edit/assign profile/Adobe RGB - the saturation jumps.

What profile is embedded in the file you have after the export?

Maybe try "save as" instead of "export" - because export seems to have a bug, see the thread I link to below. 

your PNG creation issue [with the ICC profile error] may be similar to the bug discussed here:

Lastly how are you viewing the file you have exported? IN Photoshop? 

NOT the Windows Images program, I  hope?

As a matter of interest, apart from the issue you've described, can you list all the other problems that are having. Please include your OS and how much RAM and spare hard disk capacity you have and whether you've tried resetting the Photoshop preferences?
