360 video stitching line visible on export

Community Beginner ,

Hello

I am using Premiere Pro v24.6.1 (Built 2) on a Windows Laptop. Windows 11 Home.

I imported a 6K stereoscopic video mp4 (6400 x 6400) h264 which was filmed on Insta360 Pro 2 and is already stitched on Insta360 Stitcher app.

I tried to export a short part of it in 4K (3480 x 3480) on PP. When played back on Quest 2, the video has a double black line where the stitch line is.

When I export a 4K video directly from the Insta360 Stitcher, and play it back on Quest 2 there is no black line.

Which means that the problem occurs in Premiere Pro.

Please see the attached screenshot from Quest and the settings on Premiere Pro. Actually what I see on Quest is a double thin black line. The screenshot shows one thick line. If you view the screenshot as flat, you can see the line on the right hand side.

Any advice how to solve this?

Also, are there any tutorials for editing stereoscopic 360 video? The only official Adobe video is from 2018, 7 years old and obsolete stuff! It is very frustrating that there is no update.

Any help appreciated.

Hi @Kevin-Monahan , thank you for looking into this.

I didn't find the documentation on Adobe's help page helpful on this issue. It would be helpful if Adobe creates a tutorial video that offer enough detail and insights for a best quality export in a real project for VR headset playback. The short video link on the page that is incorrectly titled as 'Work Flow' only talks about VR effects and not work flow process. Am I missing something here?

Hi, @Niya_,

I read your message. I see that you're having stitching showing in the export of a file meant for stereoscopic video. Sorry it isn't working. The documentation seems recent. Can you check it out to ensure you've got all the steps right? https://adobe.ly/3ZU63ew. Let me know. I hope I can help you.

Thanks,.
Kevin

Anyway, I tested different export settings and it seems the stitching line issue has been resolved.

Monoscopic video 6400 x 3200 in 60fps exports fine.

Stereoscopic video (Over/Under) in 60fps

these settings give me the best results currently:

HEVC / h265

5120x5120

Render at Maximum Depth

Use Maximum Render Quality

VBR Pass 1

Target Bitrate: 120 (this is the maximum, not sure why?)

Quality: Highest

Playback comparison in Meta Quest 2:

All videos are same resolution (5120x5120), no editing no effects. Exported from original file (h265) of 6400x6400, 425Mbps

1. Premiere Pro (h265) 126Mbps. File size 93MB

There is a little pixelation. The smoothest playback of all 3. It would be better if the bitrate could be higher, why the cap to 120?

2. Premiere Pro (h264) 245Mbps. File size 179MB

Almost same quality as video 3. A little laggy playback. I guess this might be a Quest issue, it seems to prefer the h265 format?

3. Insta360 Stitcher export (h265) 280 Mbps. File size 192MB

This is the best quality of all 3. Not too noticeable in image quality, but the playback is better. Maybe again Quest prefers the h265 format?

I hope this might be helpful to others. Any additional tips welcome!

Many thanks

Thanks for your reply and all the tests you did for the community. It's appreciated! I will inform the docs team and my colleague who makes video tutorials. It would be cool to see these changes.

Cheers,
Kevin
