Audio Track Mixer 'Copy Track Effects' CORRUPTS your saves

Community Beginner ,

I just want to warn everyone about something I just experienced (and was able to recreate immediately).

When using the 'Copy Track Effects' feature in the Audio Track Mixer and pasting the effect onto another sequence, any save made after that will become corrupt and unusable.

For context, I had multiple sequences open because I was making the same change to all of them (adding a DeEsser). I copied the DeEsser from one sequence and pasted it onto the rest of my sequences. After doing that, I noticed my timeline disappeared, along with all my audio tracks in the mixer. I saved and quit, thinking it would fix the broken windows, but when I tried to open my project again, it crashed on launch.

Two of my autosaves were also corrupted, and I had to go back to an even older autosave and redo my work. Out of curiosity, I tested it again to see if I could recreate the glitch - and sure enough, it happened immediately after just one copy-paste.

I haven't tested whether it's specifically the DeEsser effect causing the issue or if it's a general bug with copying and pasting effects, but I don't have time to investigate further. I just wanted to quickly post this here in case it helps someone avoid the same problem - or, maybe, so that Adobe, the monolithic, greedy company that it is, might actually do something and fix a basic feature of their so-called 'professional' software.

And just to start getting more info from you here is a quick question. For the audio effects used, the DeEsser that was copied is that a third party plugin or were any third party plugins used in your instance? Or is this just the DeEsser effect found in the Premiere Pro Audio effects/Amplitude and Compression/DeEsser?
Thank you

Ian

It seems to be something with the DeEsser, tried copying other effects no problem.

@IanB_360  It seems to be something with the DeEsser.  Tried copying other effects on their own and there didn't seem to be a problem.

Exact same issue, my audio track also had a De-Esser effect:

  • Issue - Copying and pasting audio track effects from one sequence to another causes a series of critical failures in the destination sequence. Timeline and Audio Track windows goes blank, playhead is frozen or plays but shows nothing in Program. Source monitor goes blank or freezes.
  • Steps to reproduce -
  • 1. Set up a series of effects in one sequence's audio track. I applied Tube Compressor, Parametric EQ, De-Reverb, De-Esser, Hard Limiter
  • 2. Copy audio track effects.
  • 3. Paste audio track effects onto an audio track on another sequence.
  • Expected result - Effects should paste, all UI functions should behave as normal.
  • Actual result -Timeline window goes blank, Audio Track Mixer goes blank, Program window freezes or goes blank, Source window freezes or goes blank.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version - Version 25.1.0 (Build 73)
  • Operating system - macOS Sonoma 14.7.3 (23H417)
  • Video format - N/A

This has happened to me twice in the past month. Both times, I applied an effect to the audio track mixer and then the sequence I was working in became blank. I could still scrub through the timeline in the Program window, but could no longer view or make changes to the sequence itself. I was still able to open other sequences, just as before! But with the corrupted sequence, even if I duplicated it, the duplicate would inherit the corruption and remain blank. I reinstalled Premiere Pro both times to no avail.

In both cases, some actions would cause the project to crash but I could not discern what (sorry!)

Confirming this happenes to myself and all of my editors on various Apple systems. Seems like some effects like "Hard Limiter" and "Mastering" can be copy/pasted to and from the Audio Track Mixer in different sequences, but the "Parametric Equalizer" is the problem one that's definitely breaking the project for us. I have not tested DeEsser as mentioned elsewhere. None of my usual troubleshooting techniques work (clearing cache, restarting, importing into blank project, etc.)—the timeline is completely corrupted and each of us has had to recover older auto saves.

I believe all our editors are on Pr25.1 (my assistant and I are for sure). My computer is an Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra with Mac OS 15.3.2, but it's happening on our other M1 stations as well. I have not tested anything outside of Apple Silicon.
