MEDIA DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE TIMELINE ON WINDOWS SYSTEMS

On Windows, if a custom scale factor is set in System > Display, media does not display on the Premiere Pro timeline. We are working to fix this issue in an updated version of Premiere Pro. Two workarounds are available:

  1. In Windows, turn off custom scaling and use one of the standard scaling options, or
  2. In Premiere Pro, turn off GPU-accelerated UI rendering in Preferences > General.

My wife has been complaining for several months that when she tries to zoom out on the timeline (we have mouse scroll wheel set to zoom in/out), that the timeline will suddenly disappear. Well the timeline area is still there, but everything that was visible in the timeline suddenly disappears. You can zoom out a few times and then all of a sudden you go one more zoom out, and poof, everything gone. Zoom back in, and it reappears.

I did some testing, and it turns the issue has something to do with Windows Scaling. My wife had changed the windows scaling setting to 130%, because text and icons were so tiny at the native screen resolution.

This issues is reproduceible ...

Set Windows scaling to 100%, and there is no issue. Set Windows scaling to greater than 100% (like 110% or 120% or 130%), and the zoom issue returns.

She just updated to Premier Pro 2025 which has the issue, but this issue was also in 2024 version as well.

So the only workaround I came up with was to set scaling back to 100% and then I changed the resolution of the monitor (in windows as well) to a smaller resolution, to make the icons and text bigger again.

Hi @jefshrek,

Thanks for the report. Welcome to the forum! I am Kevin, and I'm a moderator here. I am not a developer, so I can't officially debug your issue but I can try to assist.

I read about your issue. The team might need more info. See, How do I write a bug report?

I hope the team can help you shortly with this issue. Thanks for the troubleshooting you've done already. Monitor Scaling and Premiere Pro have had issues and I hope the team can take action on this shortly.

While 4K monitors are prevalent these days, they might be too large for the average Premiere Pro editor, making the icons too small.

I wonder if a 2K monitor might be a better fit for your wife. It's nice to have a 4K editor for monitoring, but for editing, I'd prefer something smaller so that icons would be sized more normally.

If you need to monitor 4K, you can always route the signal through a second monitor so you can check the HQ signal when necessary.

With the new Spectrum UI, I hope the team will be able to offer more options for icon and UI scaling.

I hope the team will respond soon. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,

Kevin

I purchased creative cloud today and when I installed Premiere Pro and started editing,

i was not able to see layers in the timeline.

Does anyone has any solution? Or should I try Premiere Pro 2024?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just updated to version 25.0 and immediately ran into an annoying bug.

Whenever I place a clip at the very start of the timeline (00:00:00), it vanishes. It only shows up if I move the timeline slider forward a few frames, but then I can't see the actual start.

Has anyone else come across this issue, or found a workaround?

Hallo liebe Community,

I opened a project I am working on in the new Adobe Premiere.  There are no thumbnails for the media content.  If I run the cursor across the timeline slowly they will start to show up but if I scroll away and then back they are gone.

Hello @ArrowPictures,

Thanks for the bug report and screen movie. It's helpful to see these. In perusing these forums, I have seen at least a few others with this problem. I would consider this a bug, for sure. Let's ensure the team has full details about your system, media, and workflow. If you don't mind, please send me a private message with a copy of the project file. To see the information the team seeks, see "How do I write a bug report?"

Thanks for trying the troubleshooting steps that Ann mentioned. I'm sorry that they didn't work for you.

I have submitted your report to the product team, and they are looking into the problem. I am looking forward to helping you solve this issue. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin
