P: Keyframes Don't Work With Speed Adjustments

Community Beginner ,
Aug 01, 2025 Aug 01, 2025

Hey everyone! Came across a problem while editing my YouTube Video, so when I use keyframes next to a clip that is either speed ramped or cut, and set to a different speed, the keyframes don't take effect. For me, this happened with a Lumetri color, invert, and brightness and contrast keyframe. Not sure if the effect type has anything to do with this but I think the clip speed does, because this happened around 3 or 4 times when I was editing.

Even when I rendered it or closed and re opened premiere pro, it didn't fix. It only fixed when I nested the clip and then applied the effect. This problem is still very annoying and costed me time to figure out that I had to nest it. Before I was having to make and adjustment layer, and use cross dissolve for it to work.

I also had a problem where my voice overs got wierd and sounded like it had reverb when it had a cut and was next to a sped up/ slowed down clip, nothing was able to fix this either, even in the export tab, it was the same, I didint fully export the video to see though.

None of the less, these bugs are pretty annoying and would love if they got fixed. Thank you so much!

-Ryan

[I use Premiere Pro 2025, the latest version, on my PC]

Hi @Diego_sosa sanchez4314 -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How to Report a Problem.

Are you using any speed adjustments on your media?

Sorry for the frustration.

I have had this problem before and am unsure what causes it. But here is the issue. In the video you see me zoom into the clip, place a keyframe at the beginning, then move to the end and place another keyframe at the end (just so I can keep the person in frame easily).  But after I place the final keyframe, that's the one it follows and ignores all other keyframes. This also happens vice-versa(keyframe at the end and then final keyframe at the beginning of clip), no matter where I start/stop it will always use the last keyframe as the one it follows, as if I didn't have any keyframes at all.

I am expecting it to follow the keyframes as they are on the timeline.

OS: Windows 11 Home (version: 10.0.25100 build 26100)

Hardware: Intel 13900k, RTX 4090, 64GB RAM

PP version: 25.2.3 (build 4)

Hi @Nicolas340548196u2n,

Thank you for submitting a bug report and for sharing a video of the issue. A few questions:

Is this happening with all of your clips or only the one specifically and are there any other effects or parameters changed in the affected clips (like speed changes)? Does it happen with other types of media files? What happens if the project is closed and reopened or if you reset/change your workspace?

As a temporary workaround, you could try to nest the clip and apply the keyframes to the nest.

Sorry for the frustration and hope we can help you soon,

Dani

Thanks for the reply!

1. Is this happening with all of your clips or only the one specifically:

This is only happening to only 1 clip.
2. are there any other effects or parameters changed in the affected clips:
As a matter of fact there is a speedramp that I totally missed, and actually may be the cause.

So what I eventually did was go back the the original footage (I have a sequence with all of my footage synced) grabbed a "fresh" copy the that video by trimming it to size, brought it back into my main timeline via paste, then created the keyframes  and it worked like usual. Only difference between the fresh one and the one I had originally on the timeline is a speedramp.I have a strong belief that that is the issue.

I never really thought about it, but is that the intended effect? I just tried it on another clip:
1. apply speed ramp (I've been doing it at the beginning of the clip)

2. go to a place where you'd like to change position and add a keyframe

3. go to 2nd position and change position, adding a key frame

The outcome:

The last keyframe is the one that is followed, all other keyframes are ignored.

Here is a video of me first grabbing an untouched video clip, modifying it as usual (position keyframes) and it works. I then undo everything and go through the steps above to recreate the issue. I also did it with scale (unsure if it's the same with all other motion parameters).

Again, not sure if this is intended but now I know the problem and can work around it. It's just weird to have the last keyframe overwrite every previous keyframe

Would you say that your keyframes are not lining up correctly?

Hello! They're lining up fine, It's just that they won't work. I'm still editing, and now some motion keyframes aren't working, I'm starting to think that it's because my edit is very heavy, I'm currently editing a 14ish minute video and the video preveiw files are 143 GB total. Could that be causing the issue?

Nesting is the way to go with effects and time remapping

Effects dont work well with time-remapping.

Add effects to clip > nest > and add time remapping to nest.

Got it, thank you for clarifying! Do you think they will ever make it so they work together? or is that like just a thing for all editing softwares?

Hi @ryan_9116 -   What you’re describing lines up with a long-standing issue we’ve seen. When using time-remapped clips, certain effects can apply their keyframes at the wrong time often triggering before the actual keyframes.

As Ann has said, Nesting the clip is a good workaround, and it’s currently the best way to ensure the timing of keyframes behaves as expected. I know it’s frustrating to have to take extra steps, especially when you’re deep in an edit really appreciate you taking the time to report this.

Oh, that, yea. Which can at times be worked-around by nesting the clip then applying the animation/keyframes.

There appears to be a glitch in the current version of Adobe Premiere Pro when combining Scale keyframes with Speed Ramping.

Steps to Reproduce

Set 100% scale at the start.

Set 200% scale at the end.

(This creates a smooth zoom-in effect between the beginning and end of the clip.)

Add keyframes for Scale at the start and end of a video clip.

Apply a Speed Ramp to the clip.

Start the ramp a few seconds into the clip.

End the ramp gradually near the end of the clip.

Observed Behavior

When both Scale keyframes and Speed Ramping are applied, the scaling animation does not progress smoothly as intended. Instead, the scale jumps rapidly from 100% (Fit) to 200% (Fill), completing the zoom far too quickly. The gradual zoom effect is lost.

Expected Behavior

The Scale animation should progress smoothly from 100% to 200% across the full duration of the clip, even when a speed ramp is applied.
