P: OMF Export from Premiere Not Working

Community Beginner ,
Dec 12, 2024 Dec 12, 2024

Running on Premiere Pro Version 25.1.0 (Build 73)

When I import OMF file from Premiere, it's only getting one audio track and layering it to several audio tracks. I'm opening the OMF on Audition. But when my collegue exports the same OMF from Premiere, when I open it on Audition it's correct (all the tracks are there with the correct audio). I've tried making a new project, exporting separate wav files then putting them on a new sequence, nothing works.

Hi @core787

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums! We are glad to see you here. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see, How do I write a bug report?

In the meantime have you attempted to export an AAF and see if you have more luck bringing that into the project? Thanks for submitting your bug report. I hope we can help you soon. Sorry for the frustration!

Thanks,

Ian

Hi @LayaXIII ,

Have you also tried to use an AAF with embedded audio? The AAF should work just as well as an OMF for the current work around.

Thank you

Ian

OMF has worked in the Beta since this issue popped up months ago.

Solution found: Export project from Premiere Pro to Audition and then export the OMF or AAF.

Hi,

I’m running into a serious issue when exporting audio from the timeline to an OMF file in Premiere Pro version 25.1. The export technically completes, but the resulting OMF file is basically empty — it contains no audio clips or usable data.

I’ve attached two comparison screenshots:

In Premiere Pro 24.x, the exported OMF file is correct and has a proper size (approx. 689 MB – see Image 1).

In Premiere Pro 25.1, the OMF file size is drastically smaller (only 39 MB – see Image 2), which reflects the fact that the file contains almost nothing.

I’ve tried different settings, but it doesn’t change the outcome. This issue is preventing us from sending audio properly to post-production.

Is this a known bug in version 25.1? Any fixes or workarounds would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance!

As explained above:

If you need to use OMF, stick to version 25.0 only (later versions can't do it properly) !

Serious question, why not use AAF? That works just fine to ProTools and is a more modern interchange format. The answer might be because audio only wants an OMF ... but perhaps it's time we push them to AAF.

Export project from Premiere Pro to Audition and then export the OMF or AAF

This is a good question. However, due to various projects, including television ones, a much better option would be if only the audio could be exported, not the video.

What do you think, why don't they want to solve this problem? Of course, they can. They just don't want to. Because the competition would lose business, and they might too if the competition enabled video editing in Cubase or anywhere else. Who in their right mind would include export to AAF in their program but not include import of the same format in their audio editing software (Audition)? Only AVID developed a standard for exchanging edited audio, OMF, which is not entirely reliable and hasn't been developed further for years. Deliberately.

Scot, let Adobe do it itself first...
Audition doesn't know how to import AAF correctly, it can only use OMF so far!

One question unanswered here is if the OP is ultimately trying to go to ProTools. If so use an AAF

Hi
I don't understand why in version 25 it is not possible to export OMF and processes have to be complicated
I personally continue to work with version 24 because of this problem and also because of the too dark appearance of version 25 which is not comfortable for the eyes
