P: Premiere Pro 24 issue with the GPU on Macbooks Video Preview

Community Beginner ,

This is happening on all of my premiere pro projects. Started when I updated to Premiere 2024. When I look at a video in either source or the timeline, it glitches (see photo). I haven't found anyway to view my footage. The only way to see the real video is by playing the video. This makes it impossible to color correct or colorgrade footage. Please help fix this, it basically is preventing me from editing.

Premiere Pro 24.3

2019 MacBook MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1

I had the exact same setup - you need to upgrade your OS to Sequoia, this will fix the problem.

I found a similar issue right after I posted.

I changed my rendering setting to "solo software mercury playback engine" and this fixed the issue.

Every time I render out a video file in Premiere, it contains a number of glitch artefacts.

I have been using version 2024 and since upgraded to 2025 and am still having this issue. I have varied the render settings but still get the same problem.

This is unacceptable as the video files are unusable - and as video editing is my livelihood I need to find a solution fast.

I am using a 2020 iMac with Sonoma 14.6.1 OS.

I've updated to Sequioa and it seems to have fixed the bug I was experiencing. Will try a few more projects in the hope it is finally resolved.

I'm at my wit's end with Premiere and the constant bugs and unaddressed issues.

I've been having multiple issues with Premiere introducing strange artifacts and noise distortion into my timeline seemingly at random. Everything will look fine on the timeline and as soon as I render and play it back I will randomly get glitches and horrible noise artifacts. at first I had noticed it would happen when using adjustment layers so I would delete the adjustment layer and try to work around using them but this was a huge hassle and didn't always resolve the issue.  Now it's happening just randomly over footage where there is no adjustment layer. The only thing that seems to resolve the issue is deleting all of my media cache files. The only way I was able to get a clean export of my most recent project was to export the file without rendering. but then the quality was poor.

Has anyone else had this issue? Attaching video reference of the problem. Video Reference

Can you post screenshots of your media properties, sequence settings, and export settings?

Hi @PaulMurphy , I never had this issue until I upgraded to Sonoma and I'm on an older 2019 Macbook Pro with the Radeon GPU (and 64GB RAM) so i'm worried that upgrading to Sequoia could cause further issues given my older hardware. Is that not the case?

It fixed it for me on both of my Macs - a 2019 MBP with Intel UHD and 2020 iMac with AMD Radeon. I haven't had this problem since I upgraded to Sequoia.

Same for me. Not experienced the problem since updating to Sequoia on a 2019 Intel macbook pro.
