P: Transform effect is glitching when modifying the value

Community Beginner ,
Jan 14, 2025 Jan 14, 2025
  • Issue - Transform effect appears glitching on the Program monitor (preview) when trying to modify value, such as Scale or Position.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 25.1.0 (Build 73)
  • Operating system - Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100.2605)
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F

    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER

    • GPU driver: 566.36
    • RAM: 32 GB

    • Hard Drive: Both the footage and premiere running on 1 TB NVMe SSD which is a local storage.

  • Video format: Format irrelevant, the issue persists on any media format.
  • Workflow details: It's just a simple Adjustment Layer on top of an image/video.
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!):
    1. Put an image or video into the timeline (anything, really)2. Put an Adjustment Layer on top of it3. Add Transform effect to the Adjustment Layer4. Try to modify the value on the scale or position by click+dragging left and right
  • Expected result - The Program monitor (preview) should display the changes smoothly
  • Actual result - The preview instead looks choppy and glitchy. It's like the program monitor repeatedly trying to show (or often times just flat out stuck) the top left of the original media beneath it.
  • Video for better demonstration:

Hey just wanted to note for anyone else who comes accross this thread - I was having the same issue, but when I select the transform effect in the effect controls panel, I can now modify the values of both anchor point and position with an updated preview in my program monitor. Not great, but a decent workaround for the time being.

Hi @jamieclarke , I've tested the behavior and can confirm it's been fixed in the latest beta. Any ETA when roughly will the fix get applied to the main client? Thanks for the update.

Hey @Andrew25777584q7p5 , I just tried the workaround, and yeah it works! Thanks for the tip.

I have been having the same issue after recently updating from 24.0. The solution I've found is to double click the clip (in the timeline) that jumps around in the program monitor when you're changing the effects. This will pull up the clip in the source monitor and for some reason that allows me to smoothly change my effects without the frame jumping around or freezing. Hope this helps and hope adobe fixes this soon but they probably wont 🙂

I have this same issue too. When effects applied to the adjustment layer or the clip, the slip jumps around. For now I get around this by right click on the clip and select show clip keyframes and adjust what I want to but this is not good when you want to resize/scale up

Hi @Henry_DG,

Thanks for submitting your bug report. Welcome to the forums.  Does this problem look similar to this issue?  Does the error persist if you apply the transform to just the clip and not the adjustment layer?  I hope we can help you soon. Sorry for the frustration!

Hi @Jeffiot25214080m00m, Does this issue only happen when the Effect Control panel is open?

Bug Report - Real-Time Preview Issue with Transform Effect Adjustments

Description:
When using the Preview panel and adjusting the Position or Anchor Point values with the mouse, the movement is not reflected in real time.

Adobe Premiere Pro Version: 25.1.0 (Build 73)
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

System Information: HP Omen 45L (out of the box)

  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-12900K, 3200 Mhz, 16 Cores, 24 Logical Processors
  • GPU Driver (PC): NVidia 572.16
  • RAM: 32GB
  • Hard Drive: SSD Internal (Model: NVMe WD WD_BLACK Gen4 SDCPNRZ-2T00-1106)

Video Format:

  • 4K, 30fps, .MOV (Recorded on iPhone)

Workflow Details:

  • No multicamera is used; the issue occurs consistently in any project.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. In the timeline, create an adjustment layer and place it above the video.
  2. Apply the Transform effect to the adjustment layer.
  3. Increase the zoom slightly.
  4. Try to adjust the Anchor Point or Position by dragging with the mouse while watching the preview in the Program Panel.
  5. Notice that the video pixels do not move.
  6. Workaround: Clicking (highlighting) the Transform effect in the Effect Controls panel updates the preview correctly.

Expected Result:
It should not be necessary to click on (highlight) the Transform effect; the preview should update in real time when adjusting the Anchor Point or Position.

Actual Result:
Without using the workaround, the video preview only updates the position after releasing the mouse drag.

Please could you report to the team to fix this bug?
Thanks and KR,

Anderson Marques

This is happening to me as well in version 25.1.0 (Build 73). To clearify on what I think is happening to everyone here, is that actually using the transform to move or scale causes the image to freeze up. Once I let go it will update properly, but it's hard to get the position or scale in the right spot I need when the layer shifts into the wrong posotion, or doesn't move at all, until I let go of the position or scale value.

On playback everything works fine, but it's when I'm dragging one of the values for a keyframe that this happens.

An example is below. Whenever I change values with the transform tool, I experience a strange bug that does not allow me to see where I'm moving the screenshot. Why is this happening?

Windows 10 Pro
Premiere Pro v25

I believe this issue is resolved in the currently available beta and should be included in the next Premiere release.

Premiere 25.1.0 (build 73)

When I apply a Transform effect to an Adjustment Layer above my footage, if I click and drag the position X or Y paramater, the change is not previewed in the Program Monitor. Instead it sort of glitches into a strange position, and only shows the result of the Transform effect after I finish dragging the parameter.

This behavior does not exist if the Transform is applied directly onto the layer itself, you can as expected click and drag the paramter and see the results happen live in the Program Monitor.

This didn't use behave this way in prior versions of Premiere.

When adjusting the postion on the adjustment layer the actual clip is bugging out and clipping downwards as seen in the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhM0D0taaUc

I've been doing it this way for over a year, I recently updated Premiere pro to v25.1. I am unsure what version I was using before. But since the update it is now happening (don't think it happened immeditatly after the update but that's the only change I've made recently).

Would really appreciate a way to fix this.

Hi @Thomas323700565ob2,

Can you create a new adjustment layer and try again? You can add the effect directly to the clip, as well. Have you tried that? I've seen issues like this in the past. See if it behaves the same way in a new sequence. If so, try to reproduce the issue in a new project. Corruptions can take place at the clip level, the sequence level, and the project level, so I like to troubleshoot in that order. See if that helps fix things.

Thanks,
Kevin
