Premiere Pro Crashes When adjusting R3D or RAW Settings

Community Beginner ,
Sep 09, 2024 Sep 09, 2024

If I try to adjust any setting with my R3D file the program crashes. White balance, exposure, tint, ISO, etc.

My computer can easily handle the processing of these files and doesn't use more than 30% processing power unless I'm rendering or exporting something. I'm not seeing any driver failure, packet loss/corruption, or any other form of system failure when I troubleshoot on my end.  Seems like the program just doesn't like me adjusting certain settings at certain points in time.

One thing I find interesting is when I let Premiere do it's "system analysis" it will tell me Premiere is not up to date & that my drivers are out of date. Both of which are untrue.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and found a solution? I've done all of the recommended troubleshooting and more that's usually prescribed for these situations.

That data can give the information useful for troubleshooting this. I do handle some r3d files occasionally, with a 3960x 24 core Ryzen, 128GB of RAM, and a 2080Ti. Without issues.

So ... trying to figure out how to replicate this is the first step. Or what might be an issue.

I have the same exact issue. I re-installed Premiere and it stopped, for 1 project. Then the next day on the next project it crashes every single time. This only happened since I installed the latest version of Premiere so at this point I'm trying to figure out how to go back to the previous version.

Nothing I tried worked, but I found on mine it only crashes if I use either the "auto white balance" OR if I slide the slider/change the tint and balance numbers by dragging them.  If I select the number and hand type 4900 instead of trying to drag it there, it doesn't crash.  Not ideal because I like to use the auto feature to get me started and I like to fine tune it by dragging it, but at least I can keep working.

I'm having the same issue, have been for a while actually.

It mostly happens if I change white balance or ISO of the source clip, I think it got worse, I currently get a instant close of Premiere every couple of clips I adjust which is absolutely painful.

Hi @Christian Leibig @SeanJMU - Please provide specific system info and Premiere Pro versions if you are still experiencing this issue with the latest versions.  Thank you hopefully we can help you out.

@jamieclarke  it seems like PrPro isn't reading the raw settings correctly. See image from the source settings panel on the latest version of PrPro with AMD 5950x GPU: AMD 6900xt and 64Gb of ram.

it's not displaying the kelvin correctly.

Hi @default24vaujr1d5ag - We still need specifics, what version of Premiere Pro are you working on?  When you receive a crash does a dialog box open or is it a ghost crash?  Do you have software rendering on or OpenCL?

Would you be able to upload a sample file so that we can take a look?

@jamieclarke yes, dialog box opens up when it crashes. I'm using PrPro 25.0, had the same issue in older versions.  I use OpenCL, I wouldn't be able to edit without it.  I'm not a software developer but I feel like when the kelvin range is showing 1700-100,000 it might be worth looking into. Do you also have any info on if ProRes Raw video will be on computers that have AMD GPU's?

unfortunately I can't upload a sample file but this issue is happening across all my projects. Adjusting the raw settings feels like playing a game of Jenga when any sudden movement could cause the program to crash.

Hi @default24vaujr1d5ag - Apple hasn't updated the ProRes raw decoder in awhile, and have not given a release date.  You can always download their latest decoder at this link https://support.apple.com/en-us/106401

When the crash dialog opens can you check the box that says adobe can contact me and let me know the email address that you used?  Thank you for your patience and help finding the cause.

Same problem on my side, after 3-4 clips of adjusting the temp and tint slider in the R3D Raw settings it crashes. Running PRPro on 24.6.3, updated to 25.0. Editing on the M3 MAX with 32 RAM. Sent you the E-mail i used for the Crash Report Via  DMs

Ok, I have to admit that I was recently testing on the latest beta channel of 25.2. If I'm going back to 25.1 it actually seems to work fine, I can drag around ISO and WB for REDRAW source media as much as I want. I will reopen this bug report on the beta forum.

Hi @default24vaujr1d5ag @daniel_6659 @SeanJMU - Can you try installing Premiere Pro Beta version 25.2 build 52 or later and see if that helps your issue.  We just released some potential fixes.

Amazing, using 25.2.0 Build 52 the crashes are gone. I've been draggin around the WB slider for about a minute, when previously it took only a few seconds to crash (at most).

Seems fixed on my system.

Just downloaded the 25.2 BETA version and the crashes stopped. Only thing that remained is the kelvin bar issue. It's capped to 9400 which is good, but the whole slider still goes up to 100.000. Altough it's useable, it isn't ideal to work with.kelvinbug.jpg
