Timeline jumps back to playhead anytime I click while playback / I press play or stop

I am not sure if this has always been like that, or if it's a new thing but it's driving me nuts.

For example:

I watch my edit in the timeline and then in some part I zoom in to inspect some detail while it keeps playing. If I now hit pause the timeline automatically jumps to where the playhead has moved to while I was inspecting and away from the section I was looking at.  I would like the timeline to stay on the section I was looking at.

If I click in the timeline in order to relocate the playhead while it's playing, it will always jump to the current playhead's position and not where I clicked.

In order to achieve this I always have to zoom out, so that the playhead is visible, then stop, move the playhead to where I want to be and zoom out.

This has cost me so much time and I am about to lose my mind about it. I really can't remember ever having this problem in 15 years of editing.

I hope I am making myself understand. I have been searching extensively on the internet but I don't even know how to name this problem.

For a moment I thought that "selection follows playhead" was the solution but it really wasn't. I am also under the impression, that sometime for some reason it will work just as I want and remember it, but then it will go back. Maybe I am hitting some secret key without knowing it.

Your help is highly appreciate. If you don't understand please ask,

Thanks

the spacebar jump as 100% not always been present. I pretty much exclusively stop playback with spacebar and noticed the second this bug appeared. Sadly it's only half fixed.

I am on the latest build and if I click the timeline while the playhead has played past the visible area in the timeline and click on an area to stop the playhead, it still skips forward (acting the same as hitting the spacebar.) The bug is still there 3+ years later.

I updated because the Transcription no longer works for the versions that don't have this bug. I now have 3 different versions of Premier navigating around working / broken features and bugs as a full time editor. I'm at a place now where I am no longer recommending Adobe to those I am mentoring in the multimedia space especially videographers. The only thing keeping me paying every month is the fact that I use more than video editing software for my business or else I would've jumped ship.

Are you on the 2023 version (not the lastest version of the 2022, which would still have the bug)

For me and a few others the clicking now works THANK FUDGE.

I am on the latest 2023 build. Good thought though.

After editing in it for a few hours, it seems to on occasion not skip ahead as described by the bug, but the majority of the time, it does. Very odd. As if it's a memory thing.

not fully fixed sadly. Only when you mouse click and not pause with the space bar., If you do that it still jumps back.

Anyone have an update on this? Or are we all just waiting on Adobe to finally get this fixed? What steps do we need to take for them to notice this is an ongoing issue and do something about it?

it's not fixed. You can mouse click now to stop playback without it jumping back but if you push space it still does the same infuriating thing. Starting to think that it will just do this forever now.

Yeah I agree with @davidpayne1981 - It is super nice that I can click the timeline to stop playback and stay where I'm looking, but when tapping the spacebar it still takes you back to the playhead location, which it never used to do. I only know it didn't do this because it has been a noticeble setback to my editing workflow. Even if this is a new feature, there should be an option to disable it.

Every DAW and program I use with a timeline, does not skip to the stupid playhead when pressing space to pause. It's somewhat good that there is the mouseclick option but this is driving me crazy. I wish I could go back to 15.4...

Ive been waiting and waiting on a fix for this bug. It's an incredibly huge time wasting annoyance.

Zoom out, find the playhead, stop and zoom back to where I was. Fun stuff (not).

PLEASE FIX THIS.

Welcome to 'products as a service' and 'bugs as features.'

I've completely given up waiting for a fix and am working out of a 2021 build of Premiere (15.4.5) which does not have this issue. I only work out of a newer version when clients specifically request for captions... since Adobe has removed Captions generation for the build that doesn't  have this jumping bug. It truly is like playing Whack a Mole trying to choose a version that has functionality, stability and quality of life. I still have three versions installed for just such reasons.

I kinda like how it is now. It took a little bit of getting used to it, but it acctually makes sense. If you hit space bar while playing back the window will jump where ever the playhead has gone in the meantime. But if you click your mouse anywhere in the timeline it'll stop aright on the spot where you have just selected it to be.

So between this and the "Move playhead to cursor"- short cut (which now even allows for smooth scrolling through the time line while holding it pressed) I acctually have sped up my workflow...

I couldn't disagree more. I spend a lot of time cutting up interviews. Little things like removing ummms and long pauses require you to do frame by frame cross fades so the person talking sounds like you didn't just remove some words from their sentence. For that I ususally have to zoom all the way in on the timeline and make fine adjustments. So when I playback the adjustments I make the playhead immedietly leaves the timeline because im zoomed in so far. When i prees the spacebar to stop or click in the timeline it always jumps to where the playhead is currently so im constantly loosing my spot and fighting the playhead jumping. MAJOR MAJOR PROBLEM

^^ This right here. As someone who works primarily in weddings while also doing some corporate interviews, I am frequently zoomed way in to get a better view of the waveform. The only solution I have found around this is to set and In and Out point and loop playback when making subtle changes. This works, but takes more time than it used to. Adjusting the in and out points is not convenient at all - not to mention having the power to adjust immediately and reset the playhead instead of looping makes edits much faster.

As a full time editor, having functionality taken away and having to find 'work arounds' for what used to be optimal is not something I like to stomach while paying a full price subscription every month.

'No' Is the answer. There should be an option to turn off all automatic timeline jumping, but there isn't. These responses read like an Avid Media Compser thread with people saying "I don't understand why you don't want the app to move around for you", and "you need to learn the commands". I would like to zoom in during playback and stop without the timeline doing something for me.
