Zoom Program Monitor to Fit no longer works if Program Monitor is active panel

Contributor ,

I just moved to 25.4 after holding back on 25.2 for a while. I've got a couple posts about some of these new program monitor changes, like Toggle Direct Manipulation keyboard shortcut not working UNLESS the Program Monitor is active. But now there's a new issue, the Zoom Program Monitor to Fit keyboard shortcut ONLY works if the Program Monitor is NOT active.

Basically, you need to fix these two things.

Zoom Program Monitor to Fit keyboard shortcut needs to work when Program Monitor is active panel.

Toggle Direct Manipulation needs to be something you can turn on and off WITHOUT needing to have the Program Monitor be the active panel.

Hi @BrianLevin,

Thanks so much for this awesome video. It is very clear and thorough. I will work on an internal repro and file a bug. I will also look more into the Toggle Direct Manipulation thing because now I see what you mean; that could be improved.  Thanks so much for taking the time to help us dig into your issue.

Hi @BrianLevin,

Can you tell me more about what type of computer you're using?  What workspace are you in when using these shortcuts?  I tested it in 25.4.1 on a Mac, and it worked correctly for me.  Can you provide a bit more info/provide a screen recording of the behavior you're seeing?  That would help a lot.

Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for reaching out.

Just letting you know that a user on another post solved this problem for me, turns out that if you keep KYS files across updates to Premiere, things that are meant to work one way can get broken. When I started with a fresh default shortcut file and rebuilt the problematic shortcuts they now work as expected, so that would be for both the Zoom Program Monitor to Fit and the Toggle Direct Manipulation. This is probably plaguing other users, and I'll probably spend the morning tomorrow rebuilding my entire keyboard shortcuts from scratch to make sure I get a nice clean setup going and get rid of any bugs that might be stuck in there.

@BrianLevin,

Sorry I did not get my notes sorted yesterday to post the information shared in the other thread by @Tom_edit:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-beta-discussions/now-in-premiere-pro-beta-new-masking-to...

Bottom line for a feature request/bug report (is there a general one?) - as stated by @Tom_edit:

"Definitely think something should be done to address it, seems super hand wavey to pass the problem onto the user as if most people are even going to know how to dig into the mess of an xml file that makes up prem hotkeys"

My list does not have any other examples of current issues.

See these threads (some of which you posted in):

Zoom to fit etc

More zoom to fit etc

Toggle direct manipulation

Which includes my post stimulated by one of your posts getting me back to that thread!

This is helpful thanks! Yeah I don't love that I, the user, need to be digging into an XML file to fix this issue, or rebuilding KYS from scratch. It feels like working on Avid, where the answer is "just rebuild your entire user settings to fix this tiny issue."

It might be the case where I now keep a spreadsheet on my Google Drive of all modified shortcut keys from the Premiere defaults so that in the case I need to do this again in the future I'll know what's been changed vs. trying to go through and figure it out so I can rebuild.

Any thoughts on how I can determine which of my shortcuts are modifications from the Premiere defaults so I can note them when rebuilding my KYS file?

@BrianLevin,

See "Print a spreadsheet of the keyboard shortcuts" on this page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/in/premiere-pro/using/keyboard-shortcuts.html

I suspect there's an XML tool that can compare the default set to your custom set. But I'm still looking for a good method.

Printing a spreadsheet is the best thing thanks! I am able to use a variety of third party comparison tools now.

Hi.
It works as expected on 25.4.1.
I could replicate your issue of the keyboard shortcut working only when NOT in the Program monitor panel, and it was a case of having another command associated to the same shortcut (for me it was Shift+Z for Zoom to fit AND Show source transcript).
Hope that helps!
