Auto Reframe frame size wrong

Every time I use auto reframe to change a sequence from 16:9 to 9:16 the video frame size doesnt just flip the aspect ratios and leave the frame size as it should. instead I end up with 607:1080 or some other strange number. 

Mostly it reframes down to 607 by 1080, but if I manually change the frame size first and then apply the autoreframe effect it works normally?

does anyone have this experience or anything similar?

I've got the same problem. it really makes auto reframe unusable with my workflow

I read that media on smaller res on your timeline could be the cause,
I removed them all but still...

I have tried everything including filming in 4k to downsize to 1080 but it doesnt work either.

I'm afraid not. I apologize on behalf of Adobe for that.

Workaround: I had to change my sequence settings manually, which worked; however, one should not have to do that. The default behavior should be a 1080 x 1920 sequence.

I'll move this issue into the Bug Reports forum to make the team aware of this issue. Thanks for raising it.

@The great dog Chippie This is working as intended. When you start with a 1920x1080 (16:9) sequence and choose to make a 9:16 Auto Reframe, we keep the same vertical resolution (1080) and then crop in the sides until they are 9:16 which as noted is 607 pixels wide.

If we didn't do this, and instead create a 1080x1920 sequence, you'd now have a large amount of additional scaling applied to your clips: going from 1080 to 1920 pixels tall is a couple hundred pixels off from a 200% scaling operation.

That said, if you want to do this yourself you can. After doing the Auto Reframe to 9:16, you can go to Sequence > Sequence Settings and manually change the dimmensions. In my testing, it was a seamless change that required no further modification.

I have found that if I change the sequence first to 1080x1920 before doing the auto reframe it works as long as you don't have any low res footage. If you do have lowe res footage or graphics you should delete those before hitting reframe, otherwise Premiere adjuts to the smaller size content.
