Auto save causes freeze, can't be disabled

Jun 19, 2024 Jun 19, 2024

Hey there,

due to Auto-save. every 5 minutes my Premiere freezes for 10 seconds, which really messes up my workflow.

I'm on the latest Version of Premiere.

Things I tried to fix this:

- resetting cache/preferences

- deleting the existing auto-save files

- importing the whole Project into a fresh one

- changing the Auto-Save to different intervals (20mins for instance)

- changing the Auto-Save location to different local drives

- fully disable auto save in preferences, which still did nothing.

All these things didn't change anything, still every 5 minutes Premiere freezes and creates another Auto save (I see the little auto save icon top right working).

Please help, it's really tough to stay focused like this.

Kind Regards,

Philipp

Hi @Philipp37260999kmzc,

Thanks for providing the additional information. I am so glad you provided that for the team. Thanks! I apologize for the lack of a response. It could be because of the lack of up votes, which means the issue is not widespread. It could be a troubleshooting issue. Are you still having the issue? If so, see if saving the Auto Save files locally rather than to remote storage might help. Let us know how it's going with the current version and your workflow and hardware. Sor

Hi @Kevin-Monahan,

thanks for quick the reply & sorry for the missing information, I'll try to complete it:

- Adobe Premiere Pro version number: v 24.5

- OS: Mac OS Sonoma 14.5

- System Info: Mac Studio 22, Apple M1 Max Chip, 32GB RAM, and we are working on an EditShare server, connected via Thunderbolt 10gbit/s

- Video Format: 4K 4:2:2 10 Bit, mk2 MXF Files (Canon C300 Mark III, Canon C60),  Proxies in Apple ProRes LT

- Workflow details: We work mainly in Multicam Sequences with 2 cameras and an external audio recorder

- Steps to reproduce: I just setup a fresh project, imported all the files (about 4TB), and created Multicam Sequences for each day of filming. Then i put these Multicams into source monitor and created select cuts into new sequences.

Kind regards,

Philipp

I have the same problem with the last Premiere 25.5 editing in 2 computers connected to a QNAP TVS 472XT server through Thunderbolt, in a M1 Max and M4 Max 32gb RAM with the MacOS Sonoma system. Mostly the video formats are MXF to 1080.

Hi,

Thanks for the message. Is the media cache local or on the NAS? If the latter, can you try setting the media cache to a local drive and see if the same thing happens? Check also the media cache permissions or RAID drive access, which have been flagged as potential causes. I hope the information helps. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Kevin
