Can you know which music files are used in a premiere pro project without opening it?

Hi! I think that I'm asking something impossible but let's see...

I have so many premiere pro projects (maybe 2000?) for which I had to download lots of song files to try and pick one for every project.

I did not delete the songs that I didn't use at the time, in case I would need them sometime, but now I have a folder with lots of songs that have not been used mixed with the ones that I did use.

It's so many projects, therefore, my question is if there is any way to find out which ones have been used and which ones haven't without having to open each project, so that I can delete the ones that have not been used... Both on Windows 11 and macos Sonoma.

Any help is so welcome! Thank You!

Hi Maria,

I'm not sure I can suggest a fix for 2000 project files, but for a large number of project files, I would recommend the following:

1. Create a new project file.
2. Import all project files into this project.
3. Click Edit > Remove Unused to get rid of any music files not used in these projects.
4. Create a search bin (File > New > Search Bin) for File Path: <your music folder>.
5. Drag all the audio from the search bin into a new sequence.
6. Use File > Project Manager to copy all the media f

I would import several projects.

Set metadata display to audio usage and sort

Select file that are not used and make them off-line and select media files are deleted.

Having a streamlined workflow for archiving and restoring old projects can save a lot of time and headaches in the future!

Cheers,
Paul

It has helped a lot, thank you so much! It will take a while but not as much as I expected.

I definitely do need to have a better workflow...
