copying edit sequences into another sequence is swapping multicam shots

I've noticed a horrifying (for me) bug: when I drag & drop (or copy & paste) edit sequences into a compile sequence, my multicam shots are being swapped over at random.

This compile editing is all being done with the "insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual clips" switch on my edit timeline set to bringing in sequences as individual clips. When I edit in each of these stories as a nested sequence, the multicamera shots don't change (and there are only two camera angles on the multicamera shots)

The solution is to edit these source sequences from my source monitor into my program monitor (and the multicams are staying selected as they should be); but I don 't understand why drag & drop from my project window, or copy & paste from other timelines is causing my multicams to randomly swap multicam sources, but fortunately I can edit from a sequence in my source monitor into another sequence in my program monitor, and the multicam clips aren't swapping.

I'm compiling stories into segments in a productions project, I'm not sure if that's a factor (each story is created in it's own project, and then copied into the segment project)
Is there a basic premise of editing here in Premiere Pro that I've missed? MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)
Apple M1 16 inch Max Macbook Pro
64gb ram
Mac OSX 15.1
Premiere Pro 24.6.3

That's odd, to me. I'll ping @Tranquil_Cosmos157F and see if he has suggestions.

I'm just planning on re-reading Jarle's guide to the productions workflow later today to see if there is something that I missed.

I'm trying to understand the workflow here. You have edited sequences that contain multicams, and when you put them into a new sequence, the multicams show different angles?

If I got that right, this smells like a bug. I know Paul Murphy has used this workflow a lot, and it also how I usually work on larger projects.

Yes- with this production, when I "copy & paste" or drag & drop sequences from one shot to another, someone multi camera angles will change, so I can't rely on copy &!pasteborvdrag & drop to move around sequences in different projects in my production. To add to this, I can't do an insert or over write edit from one timeline to a timeline in a different project in the same production.

(sorry - too many typos in my first answer! "Dang you iphone late at night!!!!😖")

What I meant to say was:

Hi @Andrew C. Brinsmead - Would you be able to provide a screen recording of the issue you are experiencing?

I've worked out how to add the video (you'll note that I toggle the "insert or overwrite clips as nest button" to no avail)

Hi @Andrew C. Brinsmead - Thank you for the screen recording, that is strange.  Can you try one thing for me first backup your settings folder (24.0) and then go to Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > and delete the 24.0 folder.  Then launch Premiere Pro and let us know if that helps your issue.

FYI: A friend of mine thinks this may be related to editing the camera order in the Source Monitor. He says it seems this is only affecting edits where the cameras have been edited to a new order. Also, Match Frame twice will match to the wrong camera when they have been edited.

Hi Jarle, thanks, but  I haven't changed the camera angle order in these multicam shots - I followed a very consistent approach when constructing my multicams (not hard when there's only two cameras, and I knew from the outset which was camera A & which was camera B), so the multicam camera angles haven't been changed internally at any stage.  While grading some shots I have turned the b camera layer on & off for viewing at times, but otherwise, I haven't changed the order of these cameras

Thanks @jamieclarke  I'm trying that now; I've just replaced my user settings (although it's interesting that a lot of my previous settings have appeared (I think this was done automatically from my 23.0 settings folder, so I'm going to remove all of my previous user settings (going back to 12.0…) from the documents / adobe / Premiere Pro folder)

Thanks @jamieclarke  WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!  (sorry for shouting! 😉 but I've had several weeks of severe pain with this - to the point where I was contemplating moving systems!!!).  I've started to use Premiere Pro with a completely refreshed / rebuilt user preferences folder (the 24.0 folder), and I've removed all the previous user preference folders, so far - very good!

I'll have to keep testing this solution - but already I can do the exact kind of edit (sequence from one project in my source monitor into a sequence from another project in  my program monitor).  I've done a few test edits - and they've all worked as they should; I'll keep editing during the day & let you know how it goes.

This has also fixed another issue that I was having - when I adjusted a colour effect in the Lumetri panel (on a clip in my program timeline seqeunce), the video output (and video scopes) kept reverting back to the source monitor output - this is now fixed too!  Double points for you @jamieclarke

PS: @Tranquil_Cosmos157F  & @R Neil Haugen   thanks for your help - it looks like @jamieclarke  has found the answer!!!

Unfortunately I posted too soon; deleting & replacing  my user settings temporarily stopped the issue, but all of the issues have returned, inconsistently.  Sometimes the issues. (Can't edit/ video output sawpping etc) don't occur, then randomly they do. I even have a scary new issue: my multi am clips are displaying wrong source time code.  I'm trying to limp through to the finishing line on my current project, relying on my work arounds (importing edit sequences between projects & clearing out my source monitor when grading), then I'll have to seriously review what's causing these issues.

HI @Andrew C. Brinsmead - Sorry this happened, did you drag any of your old settings over to your new settings?  Do you get the correct source timecode if you flatten the multicam?

Hi @jamieclarke no, it was a completely fresh rebuild (which is a huge pain, because I'm used to a very customised keyboard, so it's incredibly time consuming & tedious having to rebuild my keyboard).

I've found that when I export AAFs of music clips, Premiere Pro is only exporting the left channel of stereo clips.

I keep having to relaunch the Premiere Pro software, and it takes from 2 - 15 minutes to open each project (as Premiere Pro needs to relink the media for each project every  which takes a long time)

When I copy & paste between sequences I'm getting different different clips being pasted into the target sequence. (I'll upload a video to show what I mean)

Could you please unmark as correct (or even better delete) my post about having found a solution, as we definitely haven't.

Also, I'm having to continually relaunch the premiere pro software, because various functions stop working; top of the list is Frame.IO - exporting to frame.IO using the "review in frame.IO" window often stops working - when I go to upload a clip using the "upload" command in the frame.IO window, my system hangs up on exporting the clip to media encoder; so I've found myself having to relaunch Premiere Pro constantly.  A work around that I've found this is to just export clips from Premiere Pro and then upload them as files using the frame.IO window in PP (these exports take seconds when done manually, instead of hanging up my system when using the "upload" command via the Frame.IO window)

Also, I can't drag or copy & paste clips between projects in PP (I can however import a clip form one project to another, but once again, this is a very slow process)

Here's a vimeo link to  a screen recording of the copy & paste buffer pasting the wrong clip (when this has happened, it appears to be the second last clip that was copied that is pasted instead of (as expected) the last clip that was copied)

LATEST

Hi @Andrew C. Brinsmead - Do you have any external apps running at the same time as Premiere Pro?  Can you try and close everything except Premiere to try and isolate the issue?  Everything was working and then suddenly not working, that makes me think some other process is taking over.

Since you are working in a production I assume you have your master clips in multiple projects and your Sequences in anther.  Can you try and select your sequence and then navigate to the edit menu, then you will see reassociate source clips, a dialog box will open and you can select the project that has your master clips in it.

The keyboard shortcuts are very transferable - no need to rebuild every time, or *usually* between versions, PP *generally* sorts them out.

The location of the customized keyboard shortcuts file depends on whether you've signed in to  Creative Cloud Sync Settings in Premiere Pro CC or not.Signed into Creative Cloud Sync Settings

  • Win: Users\[user name]\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\[version]\Profile-CreativeCloud-\Win\
  • Mac: Users/[user name]/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/[version]/Profile-CreativeCloud-/Mac/

Signed out of Creative Cloud Sync Settings

  • Win: Users\[user name]\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\[version]\Profile-username\Win\
  • Mac: Users/[user name]/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/[version]/Profile-username/Mac/

Not sure if it is related, but I was having issues with multicams being updated where 2 multicams exist with the same UUID (i.e. where project is duplicated and multicams then amended). THere's a workaround in my post:
