Digitizing VHS tapes using composite to hdmi connection

My mom was cleaning out her closet (first time in 21 years) and found some old vhs home movies. She asked if I would be able to convert them so she could watch on her computer or share online(because I'm the tech savvy son, so I should already know that). I've got Premiere Pro and a composite (RCA) to HDMI converter. Is it really as simple as connecting the VCR or camcorder to my laptop, press record on Premiere, press play on the VCR, and wait?

That is just a converter not a capture card. The Firewire DV converters are your best bet as seen in the video below.

You can use iMovie and import the video files into Premiere Pro.

Only thing is finding a converter.

Even dv camera with analog in are scarce.

In order for Premiere Pro to capture video from VHS, you will need a converter that outputs via Firewire.

You will also need a Firewire input to your motherboard or a Firewire card.

The Canopus ADVC-110 units here will work:
