Error message: "The requested file(s) could not be imported"

Community Beginner ,

Hi all, I am using Premier Pro v23.1 and experiencing an error that reads: "The requested file(s) could not be imported". Screenshot attached.

I have unistalled/re-installed premier pro, cleared all media cache. I've also tried downgrading to the previous PP software (23.0) and the same issue appears. Does anyone have a solution of how to fix this error? I can not find any solution at all.

My comp specs are:
Apple Macbook Pro

Apple M1 Max

Mem 32GB

Thanks

Hey,

Sorry for the issue. Are you experiencing this issue with a specific file type? If so, please share the properties of the file you're trying to import (Format, codec, frame rate, frame size, source of file). Please share your OS version as well. We're here to help!

Thanks,

Ishan

Hey Ishan,

It happens everytime I try to import all file types below:

  • mp4, h.264, mov, mp3, wav, aiff
  • Format: 16x9, 3840x2160
  • Frame rates: 25fps, 50fps

My OS is Monterey 12.6.2.

Thank you for investigating.

Jobey

Thanks for the info. Could you try granting full disk access to Premiere Pro? Here's how. What type of device are you using to store your source files?

Hi

I seem to have the same problem with .mov and .mp4 files. I'm making .mov files with my iPhone 7, transferring them straight onto my macbook. Normally, this is fine but this problem just appeared. I tried everything. I tried restarting the laptop, clearing the media cache, I granted full disk access to Premiere Pro like in the link... all to no avail...

Hey John,

Sorry to hear about this. Do you see this issue only with the files shot on your phone? Do other files import correctly? Do you see the same error message as the one attached to this post? Let us know. We're here to help.

Hi Ishan,

Some other files can be imported, but I can't see why. I can import some mp4 files that I downloaded from pexels.com. However, other mp4 files from the same location cannot be imported. Screen recordings also cannot be imported.

The following cannot be imported...
videos shot on my iphone7

some downloaded mp4 videos from pexels.com

However, some downloaded mp4 videos from pexels.com can be downloaded.

Thanks

Is this a response to my question? If so, which disk and what is a cache file?

Your Media Cache folder can be set at Premiere Pro > Preferences > Media Cache Could you try transcoding one of the problematic files using ShutterEncoder and check if it imports correctly?
