Has anyone else experienced this? When I copy then paste a clip in a timeline or insert/overwrite into a timeline, the active panel randomly switches from the timeline to the Project panel. This doesn't happen everytime, but often enough to be really annoying. I paste into a timeline, then hit the up or down arrow keys or any other short cut and wonder why nothing is happening until I realzie I need to click back into the timeline.
I'm working in Productions.
Premiere v15.2
Mac 10.15.7
OK, thanks, @J_Boy.
This issue sounds slightly different but remains an issue for you and others. I will alert the product team. However, the most important thing we need is a solid reproducible case. Otherwise, it will be hard for them to fix. It sounds like we don't have one yet, do we? Let me know. Sorry for the problem.
Take Care,
Kevin

Hi J_Boy,
Sorry about the poor experience. Is this happening specifically while working within Productions, or is it happening with all the projects? Also, is your workspace split across multiple monitors?
Thanks,
Sumeet

Hi Sumeet,
Yes I'm working across two monitors. Project panel is always on the left monitor, timeline is always on the right monitor. And I only starting noticing the issue since working in Productions. Not sure if it is happening outside of Productions, but I don't think so. I'll be back in a stand-alone project sometime later this month and will keep an eye out for it.
Thanks!
Jeff

Hi Sumeet,
a follow up on this, I just spent two weeks in a stand-alone(non-Productions) project and did not experience this bug. Definitiely appears to be specific to Productions - or my Production. Also I'm now in v15.4.1 for this production. Have yet to update to v22.

I would try re-setting preferences.
Close the app.
On Windows hold down shift/control/alt and double click on the app icon to open the app.
On Mac same procedure but hold down shift/command/option.
Let your system make changes while holding down the keys.
Hopefully this helps.

Thanks Rob, I have definitely reset prefs for other reasons since I've noticed this and the problem has continued. I'll give it another shot.

Just to follow up, I reset my cache and prefs and even deleted all my custom window layouts just to see if that was a factor. Still getting the same issue periodically.

Try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html
If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Thanks for the tip. I deleted all my cutom workspaces and started from a freshly reset layout earlier in troubleshooting. I just tried again, this time switching to premiere's default "Editing" workspace, then "Reset to Saved Layout" and continuing to work without changing the window layout. The focus shift back to the project panel still happens periodically when pasting in a timeline.

I am also having this problem. Was there ever a resolution?
Premiere v24.0.0 and v24.4.1 (Build 2) as of today.

Nope. I still experience this in v24.4.1 (Build 2). Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

It's rough. I do a ton of copy/paste. Easiest way to move stuff on the timeline, for me. I've really gotten to know my shortcut to focus on the timeline again. Best I've got. But I still almost always have a few keyboard strokes before I figure out nothing is happening because I'm focused on the Project panel.

Yep. Agreed. Super annoying. I guess I've just gotten used to it.

Hey @mattmattmayer and @J_Boy
Thanks for the post and the update. It may have to do with the clip selection. After selecting a clip, you perform a function with the keyboard, and nothing happens except this panel shift, right? Let me know, and I'll move this thread over to the bugs forum.
Cheers,
Kevin

Hey Kevin, thanks for giving it some attention. What do you mean by "It may have to do with the clip selection." Like the manner in which we are selecting clips? Or the type of clips?
In my case, when this happens, the paste command works - ie the clips get pasted where they are supposed to - but the active panel shifts at random after the paste. And I don't think it only goes back to the project panel as I originally reported. I think it has been shifting to other panels as well. I'll keep a closer eye on it now that its on you radar. I'll report back anything else I notice. Thanks.

Hi Kevin, yes thank you for engaging here! My experience is identical to J_Boy, though I've only NOTICED it go to the project panel. But it's definitely always after pasting clips into a timeline. Sometimes from a different timeline, sometimes the same timeline, sometimes it's from a different timeline from a different project within the same production. Sometimes it's a few clips, sometimes it's a massive amount of clips.
I am currently working in Productions. As stated, happening both in Premiere 24.0 and 24.4.1 (Build 2). It's on a Mac Studio, running Ventura 13.5. Also, I am remoting into that computer using Jump Desktop, which could be related! I haven't used Premiere on my computer in a while. If I get a minute, I'll experiment, but it won't be all that soon.

I suppose I don't know how you can reproduce it. It doesn't happen every time I paste and I haven't figured out a more specific pattern yet. But it's definitely on paste, and it definitely switches focus to another panel. Best I can do. If I can improve on that, I'll return here.

Hey @Kevin-Monahan, I found a set of clips that are consistenly producing the panel shift issue. The panel focus shifts from the timeline to the project panel whenever I paste a particular set of clips from one timeline to another timeline in a seperate project. I isolated these clips and timelines into a new production and it is still happening, even when the clips are offline. Can I send you this production folder to test?

Just jumping in to say I've been experiencing this exact problem in productions as well. I usually select clips with the mouse before copying. I also tried copying with the in/out points and selected tracks method, and got the same results. As far as I can tell, the focus always shifts to whatever project tab I was in most recently. It is truly very annoying. Thanks for sending this to the product team, @Kevin-Monahan – let us know when they're able to address it.
