Im experiencing the same issue except the error only occurs after I encode the video.
Im not seeing any signs of Premiere failing to process the effect (chromatic abberations) im using on my video although when I export its hardcoded with the warning "this effect requires GPU acceleration".
I have Mercury playback enginge GPU accelation (metal) hard coded in (greyed out)
I shot the footage on a BMPCC6kpc at 60fps in 4k pro res.
I own the top of the line macbook pro. Apple M3 Max chip totally up to date
Also running up to date premiere 24.5

please help !

Hi there, this is exactly the same problem I'm currently experiencing. I don't suppose you found a fix, did you? Thanks!

I realize two reasons for the issue

1. Premier might not function well with Apple Silicon chip

2. any projects created in older version of Premier

and also variations occurred

Hello everyone! I'm facing the same problem. I create projects for people ( templates ) Premiere Pro 23.6. Always in my projects I set the render settings Software Only. My laptop allows me to use GPU Metal renderer (MacBook Pro 14 M2 Pro 16gb, Sonoma 14.1) Quite a powerful machine. But I have encountered a very strange phenomenon. I can't go from a more powerful renderer to a weaker one, i.e. from GPU Metal to Software Only. This is very strange, as it seems to me. It makes sense if my laptop was weak and I couldn't use it for hard rendering. I have partially solved the problems with opening INTEL program via Cloud, but it's nonsense, don't you think ? I have to go to Cloud every time and open the project through INTEL... How soon will the problem be solved ?

Hi @DmitryRA,

The Mercury Playback Engine Software Only is unavailable in Macs with Apple Silicon. You were able to enable it in Rosetta mode, as you mentioned earlier but that is no longer the case in 24.0. You will be permanently locked to "Metal" for the renderer. I am not sure why it is the case, but I hope that is OK. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

Any update on this? Adobe this is terrible customer service. Extremely frustrating that you are aware of this issue and still no resolution.

Hi @default2u8huflhqw9y,

Sorry you are having problems with your Mac. Can you let us know more about your system and workflow? For example, what system do you have? What kind of footage? Are you performing any specific task where you experience problems? Please let us know. I hope the community can assist.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, I'm having the same issue in Ppro Beta with effects/transitions applied to a PSD clip.

Brand new MacBook Pro M2, trying to add default effects to clips, and getting render errors. First I've ever seen.

See screenshots for simple brush strokes fx applied to a .psd clip and getting that render error. It works on the video clip. Can I just not do this to PSD clips? Thanks

Here's the issue:

The renderer in the Apple Silicon-native version of Premiere Pro is permanently fixed/locked to the "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Metal)" mode, and cannot be changed at all - not even to the software-only mode. Unfortunately, it is also the default behavior in Adobe programs for all Apple Silicon Macs. The only way to force the "software only" rendering mode would be to force Premiere to run in Intel mode (by launching the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app, and then clicking on the three dots on the Premiere Pro line in the program, and clicking on the "Open (Intel version)" line.

Did you find any answers? I'm having the same problem

Hello

Any project that is created in older version of Premiere 2022 is creating problem when opened in 2023 but new project created from scratch in the new version seems ok for now!
