Is there any way to retain rendering files from Premiere Pro CC 2018 timelines when upgrading to the new Premiere 2019? Mine just automatically upgraded …along with Premiere CC 2018 (...why do they both update?).
I opened a project today after upgrading and all the render files went missing. Now my computer is taking hours for a single timeline to render. It will likely many days to re-render all the files from recent projects. (Is it worth it?)
And it is incredibly sloooow with the high bitrate 4 k files on 1080 timeline! (I have a reasonably fast PC with 32 gigs a fast processor and new fast graphic card.) Any suggestions?

That's actually not possible. To get updates and upgrades for Premiere Pro, someone has to push that blue Update button.

Sorry, you are correct. The CC cloud box kept automatically popping up suggesting upgrades, so I finally did. Why do they always ask to upgrade 2 versions of the software? ...perhaps in order to wait to see if the bugs have been removed on one's computer configuration for the latest version, so if there are problems then one can return to the old one without a hitch? In that case, I think I'll have to do that since 2019 is not working for me wit these renderings...but I haven't given up yet. .

Opening older projects in a new version of the software will normally carry the Cache and Scratch files with it. Not sure why that didn't happen in this case, but I'm not aware of any way to force PP to relink the previews.

I just updated my video card NVIDIA software (for a GTX 1660 6 gb card) and now the Mercury engine is on.
But I opened a new project and now also have the same problem as the last project - no renderings attached (....how does one tell is if the media caches ate still attached?). I am rendering 6 minutes of various bit rate 4K footage on a 1080p timeline, and its taking over 2 hours! There are a few short bits where the timeline is using the optical flow on slo mo, but this speed is ridiculous. It used to take 15 minutes. It is not worth it upgrading to the new Premiere 2019 at this cost...or is it? Any suggestions?

BTW, I discovered that the Adobe help line is useless. I waited 1.5 hours on the phone and chat lines ..twice. Time to find another product?

Sorry. Did you call over the weekend? Our video queue is closed for all weekends and after 7 at night. You should an easier time contacting us 7AM to 7PM M-F PST. Please try that. If you have trouble, send me a PM.
Thanks,
Kevin

Yes, and I called, and I also went onto the chat on-line during the week day as well. (during NZ time -5 hours behind PST, and one day ahead). No one mentioned that the video queue was closed when waiting 1.5 hours on hold.

First thing would be to go to the Nvidia site and make sure you have the latest video drivers for your card installed, and if not, install. If you do have the latest driver, you might try rolling back a driver.
Also ... checking your settings available in Mercury Acceleration can be helpful at times.
You of course are welcome to keep previous versions of PrPro installed and in use ... I normally have 3-4 at any one time. This applies to the base number of the build series ... the 2019's are builds 13.x, 2018 are 12.x, and so on back down the line. You can have one of each of those, but not say two versions of one build number, 12.1 and 12.2 for example wouldn't be allowed.

Thanks for the info! I downloaded the latest video driver today installed and rebooted and had the same problem with other projects. I guess I'll just start all my renderings afresh. Its those slow motion 4 k ones with optical flow that are the time killers.
Speaking of time killers maybe its the format? I'm shooting them in MP4 (LPCM) 50p birtrate:150 mps. There are a lot of choices (C4k, 4K LPCM Mp4 4K, FHD 50p all-i, etc.). This might be another thread. But what would be the quickest to render and edit in 4 k? I like to do a lot of slow motion and move the frame around in my 1080p sequences.

The All-I should be an intraframe which means each frame is an actual frame. Easier on the CPU. Not sure what the data rate comparisons are.

I did tests on 5 formats using the same time and then rendered each: 4k 25 fps Mov, an All-I 1080p Mov (apparently All-I is only on in 1080p on my camera), 4k LPCM mov 50 fps, 4K LPCM 50fps mp4, and an All-I 1080p LPCM 1080p. The All-I 1080p was the largest at 691.806 KB. The smalest was the 4 K 25 fps mov file.I rendered both on 50 fps and 25 fps sequences. The slowest were the 4k 50 fps Mp4 at 17 seconds on the 25 fps sequence and the mov 50fps 4k at 19 seconds. The fastest was the Mp4 All-I 1080p at 6 seconds. So I guess for slow motion and the ability to move around the frame, I'll need the slow Mp4 (though better than the mov file).
One other glitch I have in this new Premiere 2019: The "reveal in project" no longer works. I saw some old threads where it has not worked for others in past versions, but it was supposed to be fixed.

It's been working for me, but haven't been on the machine for a few days ... a young gal hit me from behind doing around 50-55mph while I was stopped at a stoplight Thursday evening, have been dealing with all sorts of things (but thankfully no major physical issues!) since then.

That's the biggest thing of the last few days ... only discomfort in the sternum area (shoulder belt and arms on steering wheel probably) and lower front neck muscles, which is either starting to go away or I'm just used to it.. But I've needed a couple hour of nap a day, so I am clearly recovering in some way.

So I guess I was one of the unlucky ones? Oh well.

try to use the 'collect' feature from Project Manager in your previous project,
use the new collected project with all its assets to open it in a new version of premiere.. try it

I have the new version, 13.02 open, and again l lost most of my render files. I went into the project manager went "collect' on one of my dozens of timelines, and then a dialogue box came up saying "copying media" ...it stayed open for about about 5 minutes, but the renderings never appeared. I'm now afraid to update Premiere again! Again I have lost many hours of renderings.

I just opened the new upgrade 13.02...and again most, but not all render files are lost.

I would delete all and let them render again, same would go for the media cache.

try opening project from the last autosave file of previous version.

Wow! That solves the "reveal in project" glitch. Thanks! But it doesn't help with the missing renderings, though at this point I've re -rendered most recent projects. Actually perhaps a simple rebooting of the computer may have solved the the "reveal in project" glitch..? It seems to work in other non auto-saved files as well for now. I'll keep you posted

To add to Grigor's message, try also to import your latest project created on the previous version into an empty
project started on the new version

Hi Brit
Have a look at this post. I am sure it will be of use to you

Thanks. It looks like a complicated work around but I'll try it tomorrow.
