Mask does not extend past video border

Hi,

I'm using video clips where there are vertical black borders on the sides, but the mask I'm using doesn't extend past the video border. I made sure to have the mask

on top of the video in the timeline, but nothing. I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 2017.1

I'd appreciate it if anyone can help.

Hi Dbror - Did you click on the Mask (1) layer from effects controls and then use the pen tool to adjust the size of the mask path?

Okay so I tried using the rectangle tool for the mask, and it works! Thanks so much!
