PREMIERE PRO CC 2017 Crashing on Mac

Premiere Pro has been routinely causing my iMac to crash since the 2017 update, at least 4-5 times per day.  This happens most commonly when I'm masking.  No other software is doing causing this problem.  I've built out massive compositions in After Effects with no real issue that haven't caused a crash.  I'm not entirely sure why such a simple function is doing this.

Here's my computer's specs:

Same to me. This is the worst software I´ve ever used. It doesn´t matter if Macbook Pro, MacPro (new), MacPro (old), 10.10, 10.11, 10.12 - Adobe is equal to every system: it crashes at least 3-10 times a day.

Hi tp-doku,

Sounds pretty bad. See my response to highfivemedia to see if anything there might help: Re: PREMIERE PRO CC 2017 Crashing on Mac

That would be great if you could post a crash log. Also, please check if you are getting the crashes while using masking tools. If not, include what you were doing when you crashed in any response.

You can also file a bug report any time here.

Thank you,

Kevin

Hi highfivemedia,

Sorry to hear of your conundrum. Is this with a new project, or an updated one? I'll do some masking to see if I can reproduce the issue.

I think it would be helpful to take a look at any crash log you might have saved or generate in the future.

Just a few thoughts As a long time NLE editor and Mac User, (and not saying this on behalf of Adobe—have my editor hat on here)

  • I always completely wipe my system between major versions of OS X. Though it is a little painful to do, I have very few problems with my own OS X systems and suggest others having deeply rooted problems do so, as well.
  • I usually lag behind most versions of OS X by a full version, sometimes two, as well. However, this may be extreme in many peoples' eyes.
  • The other thing I do avoid is updating projects between major versions of my NLE and OS X. In troubleshooting others' issues, problems crop up on updated projects rather than brand new ones created in that version.

Some things to consider, anyway, and not necessarily a solution to your ills.

Hope we can get to the bottom of this.

Kevin

Actions leading up to issue: Moving title on sequence. Inserting key frames on title and JPG.

Other running software: Photoshop, Firefox, Chrome, Open Office

No 3rd party effects or codecs

Problem has happened with both final output and previews.

It doesn't always crash, but once a project does crash, it randomly continues no matter. Only way to stop it is to recreate it brand new.

I'm not that familiar with the software, but I still must help find a solution. 2 weeks ago I installed the update to 11.0.2

Any help is appreciated!

Hey Ryan

I had the same issue..similar spec..after multiple crashes past couple of days.. the last crash happened as PP  start up..I contacted Adobe support, who remote accessed my iMac to troubleshoot.

Apparently there is A wacom tablet bug that seems to be the causing the crash.I removed my wacom and its good so far,I will keep you updated if crashes persists.

Hope this helps

I also experience recurring crashes on my iMac that was doing just fine prior to iOS Sierra AND Premiere Pro CC 2017... Initially I could prevent the crashes that typically occurred during export rendering by leaving OpenGL acceleration and switching to software rendering only, but now it repeatedly crashes when simply scrolling through videos in the media browser, regardless of the rendering settings. What a pain... Please help!

I've just recently had PP 2017 crash my MacBook Pro,with no other application doing it. It has been rock solid, but all of sudden it is crashing it and wonder if if is time to scrap the Adobe and go with the alternative. I was just trying to do a simple little video with no effects, nothing intricate like I have done before. Starting up and crashing and having to reboot the computer does not get the job done.I would like Adobe to make the product rock solid, instead of adding trinkets we don't even use.

Hi coregrouprev,

Do you have any third party VST plug-ins installed? Check for one called GuitarSuite and remove it. Reboot, and then relaunch the application. It may have something to do with this plug-ins suite: SimulAnalog Guitar Suite

Thanks,
Kevin

I've been facing similar issues as you guys. I have a 2015 iMac with 16GB of RAM yet anytime I run adobe CC it crashes my machine 2-3 times every hour.

At work, on a PC, I don't have these issues, but it's CS6 at work.

Both frustrated with Apple and Adobe. I haven't seen Anything buy performa problems when running CC. If there were an equal solution for graphics I'd switch. Certainly won't use premier pro/after effects again. Wish I could drop illustrator and photoshop.

any advice would be helpful but I'm not confident it'll be fixed, too many people reportimy this issues since CC came out.

Hi JimM,

any advice would be helpful but I'm not confident it'll be fixed, too many people reportimy this issues since CC came out.

I would advise posting a crash log in the forum and filing a bug here. I can try and get to the bottom of your issue.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have the same issues. Been fine for the last year. Since the update four days ago my screen is freezing on average every half an hour. Had my Mac checked and everything in order so it's definitely the CC update. Very frustrating. I have a presentation for a job in two days which doesn't look like it's going to get finished.

Hi Asdfdfgh,

If you have your screen freezing up, can you work with support please? They may be able to diagnose the issue with 1-1 control of your computer.

Thanks,
Kevin

I too am having issues. PPCC17 was working fine about 2 weeks ago. Then in the middle of a session it crashed. Then Adobe started an update on a few apps in my Creative Cloud. After that I could not open PPCC17 at all. Now it crashes every time I try to open and its cost me hours of frustration and days of delays, and so I had to dump all my files to another computer to finish the project.

Here are my computer specs:

OS X El Capitan Ver 10.11.6

2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Here is the most recent crash log:

Hi GlenS,

Sorry to see you crashing there. Looks like you have NVIDIA drivers there. Can you try reinstalling those and reporting back? You also might try signing out, then signing back in from Creative Cloud.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, I've tried almost everything in this thread including updating drivers and removing third party apps and I still can't get PP to work. It crashes constantly. I had adobe chat support look at my computer earlier tonight and all they did was uninstall CS6, sign in/out of CC, and @@do a clean install of PP, which all didn't work. I've been having crashing issues with PP since December but now I can no longer work around it.

This is my latest crash report, any insight would be greatly appreciated. I know it's not relevant to the problem but I'm working while pregnant and if PP crashes one more time I'm likely to burst into tears, which I'd really like to avoid. Thanks in advance.
