Eric

I work for/with/teach pro colorists. Have for over a decade, so I've rather more than a bit of experience and knowledge in exactly this process.

So I think from your question a quick explanation is needed. Premiere IS NOT applying any LUT to your media. Period!

LUTs are called "the dumbest math out there" by colorists for a reason. They are mostly a look-up table (hence ... L U T) of pixels with X data go to Y data. Even a 3D LUT has no mathematical operations in practical usage.

But software can have algorithmic math based transforms, with an entire series of if-this/then computations designed into the process, so mathematically they are vastly superior to LUT-based transforms.

Premiere, like Resolve, now has algorithmic based transform processes. And doesn't use any LUTs for the process.

Given the native superiority of algorithmic transforms, I would not recommend skipping that algorithmic transform unless you have specific reasons, and practical experience in log to linear normalization work.

If you have specific needs, or like many of us, practical experience at the process, then it's up to you. Have at it.

All color management controls and choices in Premiere are available in the Lumetri panel's new SETTINGS tab, the one NAMED Settings.

Simply go there, turn off auto tonemapping. Maybe also auto detect log.

Hola Eric,

Carlos San Juan
