Source AUDIO playback sluggish or won't stop playing when full screen.

Playback starts on spacebar depress, but doesn't stop when I hit it again.  I can see it continue rolling for an additional quarter second or so.   If I toggle it back to less than full screen, it stops instantly when told to.

Sometimes playback won't stop at all no matter what I do.  I sometimes completely lose control of the app, until it reaches the end of the clip.   Keyboard and mouse won't interact with it at all.

Sometimes I then go to quit the app but it crashes in the process.

This only seems to occur if the source monitor is toggled to full screen.

In Premiere, I have...

  • trashed preferences
  • gone to Mercury playback engine only
  • turned mercury transmit on / off (it was on previously)
  • switched audio input default to "none" (read this somewhere)
  • via the Finder, emptied the media cache and media cache database folders
  • relinked, then replaced the media file

At the Mac level, I have...

  • restarted
  • reset SMC
