Subtitle translation limit?

Hi!
I have a 2 hrs long movie that I'd already fully transkripted automatically in English. The english subtile track is without flaws and the full two hrs.

Now I want to have it translated in German. This just works up to 1 hr totally normal. But then there is no further translation.
The progress bar of the translation first looks like it's gonne do the job for the hole track, but then it only works up for 1 hour. I can't figure out why this occures or what I have to do to have it fully translated.


Any ideas why there's a limit?

Started all over & could reproduce the problem.

Is this an .srt file you import?

If yes, i have seen this and the solution was to fix the file in Subtitle Edit and that solved my problem. The .srt file i used had one small format error and that triggered Premiere Pro to stop and only a part of the subtitles were imported, just as yours.

If i remember correctly, Tools > Fix common errors was all i had to do in SubtitleEdit.

Test it and report back!

That's a great question. To be clear, are you saying that you got SRT import for the full track, but it then failed to translate the full track? I have not seen that issue.

I do not believe there is a limit, but I have no idea why sometimes the complete caption track does not translate. Here's my response to a user with this issue just 2 days ago.

She found a workaround. The forum translation of her response: "I cut the video where the subtitle translation stopped. I put this piece of video in another sequence, I transcribed, asked for the subtitles and then the translation and then miraculously, the second part was finally subtitled."

I don't think it needed to be re-transcribed if the transcription was of the source file. Just create the new sequence from the same video file with the in point at the place the translation stopped. Create captions and try the translation on that part.

I am conducted a few experiments, which are not great because my one hour test worked just fine. My test sequence is from a single clip that is just under one hour long. It happens to have 3 languages, but I am transcribing only the English channel 1. I create captions using the default Subtitle settings. I translate using the default settings to French. The source is "English (Auto-detected)." 

The steps I see (via screenrecording) are Preparing captions (10%), Uploading captions (30%), Translating (50% for the entire time), Downloading Translation (70%), and Processing Translation (90%). The entire caption track was translated. I placed a clip and sequence marker at an arbitrary location to test translation of part of the sequence - at 32:00:00.

Each of these also worked to create the "missing" captions.

I created a new sequence with the correct settings (HD 25fps). I opened the original clip in the source monitor, changed the in point to the marker, and added that clip to the new sequence. Since the source transcription was already done, I created captions, then translated them to French. The progress was very fast, so I'm suspecting it used the already created captions.

I made a static transcript of the sequence, deleted the previous 2 caption tracks, created English captions, and translated those to French.

Okay, I'll try cutting and putting it into another sequenz 2morrow and will try again.

No import, just transcripting -> automatically subtiteling -> autmatically translation. Limit around 1hr. Maybe the video file is there 4 GB already.. But with NTFS on 16k formated partition??!

I tried this today:

1. Deleted both subtitle tracks. Cutting the video, where the translation had stopped. Started a new transcript from that 1-hr-point. Generated a new automatic subtile track in English. Worked lie before.
Started an automatic translation to German. Premiere started generating, but just an empty DE-sub track in the end.

2. Started over. Transcript -> sub EN -> translated sub DE -> 1/2 track translation - > exported the sub track DEsub1.srt.
Cut the video to the 1-hr-point -> deleted the sub EN -> new transript -> sub EN -> translating 2/2 track sub DE -> exported sub DEsub2.srt.
New projekt -> import video -> transcript -> sub EN -> translate sub DE up to 1-hr-point -> import DEsub2.srt -> insert exactly after where the translation had stopped -> export the whole subDE.srt.
Worked perfectly.

I still have no clue, what was the problem here, but this worked for me and for this project so far. The result is, what counts.
