whenever i transcribe my timeline and then cut something out of my timeline, the transcription doesnt follow. I look at it and its all off.  like when i hit play on the timeline, the transcription is showing something totally different then what I'm hearing on the timeline. I swear the transcription used to travel with you when you cut stuff out. Premiere version 25.4.1 (Build 3)

I'm having the exact same issue. Restarting the program will fix the transcription, but only briefly. Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this bug—but disappointed in equal measure that this is a problem in the first place. It's obliterating my workflow. Running vers. 25.5 (Build 13). I've restarted my computer, cleared caches, un/re installed the program. No lasting resolution.

Hi @rachelcenter -
Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How to Report a Problem.

Do you have the source transcript or the timeline transcript loaded?  Can you check that you have "Follow active moniter" checked?

Sorry for the frustration.

i found it at the bottom of the text window. and it looks like a checkmark is already enabled for follow active monitor. "Do you have the source transcript or the timeline transcript loaded?" im understanding the question. i wont have time to file a bug report until tonight.

Hi @rachelcenter - Is it a long transcript?  In the three dot menu of the Text panel do you have auto scrolling checked?  We may have to see a screen recording of the issue you are experiencing.

Is it a long transcript? the timeline is only 3 minutes 40 seconds. yes auto-scrolling is checkmarked. wont have time to make you a screen recording until tonight when my edit session is over.

Just FYI, I've tried the follow activity monitor check box and it makes no difference. Screensharing with support now. Will relay any fix info if they have a solution.

Two customer support sessions and the only solution was to downgrade premiere to version 25.3. In the process they demolished all my presets and deleted my plugins which I can not figure out how to reinstall. Save yourself!

  • issue: see original paragraph at the top of this page
  • steps to reproduce: transcribe your timeline. cut a section out of the timeline, close the hole, then consult the transcript to see that it doesnt match what the timeline is saying any more.
  • expected result: for the transcripts to match the timeline
  • actual result: whatever is being said on the timeline at a given moment doesnt match the transcript. the transcript isnt following/keeping up with the timeline.
  • screen recording: I cannot publicly post this footage from my clients from an unrelease project. I would only be able to privately send it to adobe employees. which i might do in a private message after i write up this report
  • Premiere version 25.4.1 (Build 3)
  • operating system mac os sequoia 15.6.1
  • comparative - yes it has affected all of my recent projects.

@rachelcenter @carley_9607,

Essential information for troubleshooting transcription issues:

Have you generated source media transcriptions of each clip or do you have a static transcription of your sequence?

And either way, what "view" are you in when you experience the problem? Source media view of a source media transcription, Program Monitor view of the source media transcriptions of the clips in your sequence, or Program Monitor view of a static, sequence transcription.

I still can't tell from the information posted.

stan: to answer your question about source media vs static: all I'm doing is going to my timeline and hitting transcribe. and when i cut something out of the timeline and the transcription is off, i'm forced to re-transcribe via "static". As for your other question, I'm a little confused by it but the text transcript is not reading the source window, its reading program monitor.

@rachelcenter,

Thank you for your continuing responsiveness. Text-based editing has a steep learning curve, several areas that result in confusion, and the occasional bug.

> all I'm doing is going to my timeline and hitting transcribe.

I think you are saying that you click the blue "Transcribe" button in this screenshot. This produces source media transcriptions. The red arrow points to the "Follow active monitor." Since you are in sequence/timeline/Program Monitor view, what you will see is the transcript that results from any editing done to your timeline. (In other words, the "Program Monitor view of the source media transcriptions of the clips in your sequence" that I asked about above.) The source media transcriptions are the source that is showing, but only those parts that remain in the sequence. And that is what you are expecting, but it is not behaving correctly for you.

PR Transcript Tab Seq View Untranscribed Source 24_1_0.png

> when i cut something out of the timeline

By cutting out, I assume you are doing an Extract or ripple delete - a section of one or more clips is deleted and the space is closed. How are you doing that? There are multiple methods that may work. But any of them I try result in changes to the transcript (the source media transcript in program monitor view) that remained synchronized with the audio as it plays from the timeline.

So what specifically do you do to cut something out? A screen recording would be good if it is difficult to describe. It does not have to be long.

> i'm forced to re-transcribe via "static"

Once you take that step, the sequence no longer has a transcription that will update - as I think you realize. I'm curious; if after transcribing to static, you then immediately use the "Generate text-based editing transcript," is it in sync again?

Hi @rachelcenter - Thanks for the screen recording.  I do see that the words in the UI are not updating in the text panel.  If you close the text panel and reopen it does it sync again?  Are you working in a production environment?  Are these clips all cut into the same sequence?

No, closing it out and back open again does not make it resync. Same with closing the whole program and reopening it. I am not working in a production environment. Yes these clips are all cut into the same sequence.  I'm gonna go update my premiere from 25.4.1 to 25.5

@rachelcenter,

Text-editing deletions occur based on the same track targeting rules as regular edits. The transcript that shows is the topmost audio track, here A1, and since it is not targeted (it is not lit up blue) it is NOT deleted, while the video is. So the video is deleted, the audio is not, and it becomes out of sync.

If you are trying to remove the beginning of that sentence (video and audio and transcript), you need to target at least the video and audio tracks. All of your tracks that need to stay synced should always be targeted as you make edits. And yes, sometimes, particular edits may need other treatment.

"Text-editing deletions", i'm not deleting text. I'm deleting videos and audio on the timeline. When I've done that in the past, the transcription keeps up. it's only lately that its not keeping up and its off. I believe its a bug.

@rachelcenter,

I've probably made a bad assumption. In the recording, is this a source-media transcription, or a static/sequence transcription? If it is a static transcription, did you do it as a mix or of one channel?

You have in/out points set. What are you doing to delete? Delete key? Extract button?

@rachelcenter,

I see part of my bad assumption: you have a static/sequence transcription, and I assumed this was a screen recording of source media transcription. I can see now that it is static because you are in sequence view BUT the speaker names show dots (they are editable). When you have a source media transcription, the speaker names can only be edited in Source Monitor view.

A static/sequence transcript DOES NOT update as you edit. That only happens with source media transcripts. When you said "i'm forced to re-transcribe via 'static'," I missed that you expected that static transcription to update.

For the transcript to update as you edit, you must be using the source media transcripts. So we need to look at your workflow before you created the static transcript.

You might be able to explore this in your current sequence. Creating a static transcription does not change your source-media transcriptions. Using the 3 dots and "Create transcript for text-based editing" just returns you to those transcripts. But you can't then return to your static transcript. But you already need to make a new static transcript that will be the current state of the sequence.

I suggest making a simple test sequence to examine what is happening when you are using the source media transcript. Make a new timeline, add the videos of the interviewer/interviewee, and at least the two wav files - if they are what have the speakers audio. Then make an edit and see if the transcript goes off.

but even before I ever attempted a static transcription, I would go to the sequence and hit transcribe (I WOULD NOT HIT STATIC) and it would transcribe the sequence and I would cut something out of my timeline. and the transcript would be off. and the only way to get it to not be off was to re transcribe from scratch (and the only option that allowed me to do that was "static"). so it appears that no matter what I choose, the transcript isnt keeping up. Someone else on this thread said they experienced the same thing. this appears to be a bug.

Hi Jamie.

Let me try to flush out a few more details.

Mac Studio

M1 Ultra

OS Sequoia 15.3.1

Premiere Pro Version 25.4.1 (Build 3)

Footage is MXF and MP4 shot from Sony FX6 Slog 3 Cine

This has happened on at least two of my most recent projects and since updating Premiere to this version. As soon as I restart Premiere my transcript is back in sync until the next time. But for the most part, once I restart Premiere it stays in sync, I think. I’m not sure of the frequency of this issue.

My settings for Media Analysis & Transcription are:

  • Analyze all importedmedia to visually search your projects
  • Automatically transcribe clips (Auto-transcribe all imported clips
  • Yes, separate speakers

I would have to make a generic project with random footage since these projects are not sharable with the public.

Cheers!

@rachelcenter,

Yes, I understood from the beginning that you were having an issue with source-media transcription being off after edits. And that you then used static transcription to get it to sync up. And it might be a bug. But this is working correctly for most users, and we don't have the conditions under which it can be replicated.

A screen recording of the problem when using source media transcription is what we most need. I suggested the simple test project, because if you can demonstrate it there, that will be very helpful.

And yes, you can stick with the static transcription and just redo it as often as you need to. But that would be painful.
