Reinstate DV capture to Premiere Pro!

Community Beginner ,
Jan 24, 2023 Jan 24, 2023
Catalina (Mac OS) has nullified the DV capture setting for Premiere Pro. Editors need this feature desperately. Please bring it back. I have lots of old tapes I need to capture. Am I supposed use iMovie? We pay for these features. Please add them back.

Very frustrating. It works fine in Premiere 2018 but no Video Preview for DV Capture in Adobe 2020

I found an alternative solution. Import dv through Quick Time. You get .mov-files that you easily import to Premiere with command i.

Yes, this solution is possible, Frederic, but you will loose automatic scene-detection AFAIK.

I heard of a general feature in most recent Premiere versions that does automatic scene detection, but that would be an additional step in the workflow and I haven't tested it myself.

Please fix this problem or just admit that after over a year it's not going to happen and users who need this have to move to competitors' products.

I'm paying a fortune to Adobe and they are NOT sorting this capture problem.

I have just loaded BLACKMAGIC software and it captures perfectly and it's FREE.

Will be dumping Adobe soon THIER SUPORT IS TOTAL ****.

Please bring back the ability to capture DV using firewire 1394
Terrible that this feature was removed in Catalina. We need to be able to import older tape based material.

C'mon Adobe get with it and stop stripping support to legacy workflows. We all know you have enough resources.

I'm just running now into this issue, and this is a huge disappointment for me!
I bought a dv tape deck to capture the archive dv tapes that are full of source footage for a documentary I'm putting together. It's absurd that DV would be considered an obsolete format especially when it comes to archiving footage and building historical documentary edits. Plus, there is a huge demand for the retro aesthetic, and a whole new generation is using cameras like the VX1000. What gives???

Please fix Adobe, this is absurd. Even though the technology is outdated, people use this format all the time to capture collections that are needing to be digitized. It'd be like getting rid of scanners because printed photos are "obsolete". Do better with these kinds of decisions!

Does Adobe ever respond to this thread? I feel like we're shouting into a brick wall. This is a serious and widespread issue that needs immediate resolution and we're hearing nothing in almost 18 months!! Please fix this problem Adobe.

I think we should all ask for a refund of fees. Product not as advertised so not fit for purpose.

Just had new update now the capture drops out after 15-30 mins. Prev fault with capture was it would not save and or crash when I tried. Now it seems to save ok but will not run for any length of time.

This has been going on for months. Think it's going to be a case of Black Magic here I come!!

I have a catalogue of home movies captured on Mini DV tapes. I was able to use Premiere version 13 to capture the footage and import for editing. The latest Premiere version only allows HDV capture via camcorder tape. I note a workaround is to use quicktime and then import but this is very clumsy or use a third party software e.g. LifeFlix....I have an old mac and was seeking to download version 13 of premiere but note these links are not available.

I know this is an old option. But as a documentary film maker. I come across a lot of old footage on DV tape thats needs to be imported as I have read many others need. When Apple decided to drop USB & SD card readers on their laptops in 2016 it was a huge mistake. Now in 2021 they are bringing it back to the new IMac. The DV import option is still needed and will be for some time to come. Final Cut & I Movie still has it. Why not Adobe?

Adobe suggests; "On macOS you can use Premiere Pro 12.x and 13.x on macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra) or 10.14 (Mojave)".
Which would be helpful if they provided users ACCESS TO PREVIOUS VERSIONS!!!

I did an update for PP 2021 and it came back but for a week only and stopped again. So now I know that it is possible to work.
