Hi In adobe illustrator it's possible to arrange swatches into folders - is there no way of doing this in Photoshop? Also how do i select multiple swatches in the Swatches Panel so that i can export them as a separate file. Do i have to manually delete all of the other the swatches in the panel before I can do this? Many thanks, Paul.

Hi Is there any way of increasing text size (whether as outlines, or as the original text), but still keep the actual width of the path the same size. For instance, normally if you draw a stroked path, with a stroke of 5px, you can increase the size of the path but keep the stroke at 5px. I'm guessing there's no way of doing this with text or outlined text? Basically in the picture below I want to make the capital letters C and A at the beginning of each word bigger, but I don't want the path to grow with the outer dimensions - i.e. so the thickness of the paths that make up the letters is still the same, but they are just bigger? Any ideas / suggestions would be awesome. Paul.

Hi When I make a selection with the black arrow over multiple objects (all of which as sub-layers), is there anyway of making this selection of sublayers a new layer? At the moment I'm moving them individually to a new layer - I'm thinking there must be a more efficient way of doing this? Here is an example - I'll like all of the sublayers (highlighted with the red arrow) which are marked yellow in the layers panel to be moved or jumped to their own layer. It's going to be part of an SVG / javascript animation, and having the whole object as one stroked path it will make the animation so much easier to achieve. I'll have to draw the entire thing with the pen tool (i'm guessing that will be the best way?). I wanted to check just in case it was possible to join and open and closed paths. Thanks. Paul

Hi I have a couple of open paths drawn with the pen tool (shown in red) that I'd like to join them to the circle (shown in grey). The circle has no fill. When I use the join command this doesn't work, and nor does the path finder 'unite' option. What is the best way of doing this, and can i do this without expanding the paths because I'd like to use the scissor tool on the resulting object. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Image below:

Actually, now I understand how it's works Doug's answer was correct. It's just Eternal Warrior's was explained in a way I could understand having only just started using the transparency panel / opacity mask. It was a lot clearer with a screenshot explaining it how it works. Thanks to all though for helping me understand this! Paul.

Hi Eternal Warrior's answer was the one that I needed. It was because fill of the mask was using the color of the selected object, as opposed to white. When I change the mask to white as suggested it solved the problem. Thanks for the answers, and thanks again Eternal Warrior you were right !!!

Hi Monika, I don't know what you mean Monika - the alt key thing doesn't work on the latest Mac OSX I can get to library by going to Go > Library but there isn't any thing in there for illustrator? Paul.

Hi When I make a clipping mask the resulting object remains at 100% opacity and retain the original color. I've started using the transparency panel, and when i make a mask here the resulting object looks washed out, as if some kind of blend mode has been added. Surely there must be a way of using this method so the resulting objects retains the color of the original object that is going to be masked? Example with Image below: Why doesn't the resulting shape show as the dark blue of the original. I haven't added any blend modes or adjusted the opacity at all? Thanks Paul.

Hi I've set up an illustrator action to clone an object (copy and paste in front) which i've assigned to the f9 key. When I play the action it works, but after i've hit F9 to do the clone action it doesn't work again until i play the action again? Is there a way of setting it so every time i hit f9 it clones the selected object? Having to play the action each time kind of defeats the object in terms of time-saving? Thanks, Paul.

Hi SJ, Thanks, I'll have a look at that. I'm also thinking I could make the initial horn shape, make it a closed path, remove the stroke and try to achieve the gradient using the gradient mesh tool (I've never used this tool, but am researching it now). Then i can just punch out the circular shape at the bottom? Paul.

Hi, I have a shape I'd like to build - i've created two open paths with the pen tool (each a different color), and then used the blend tool to create a smooth gradient between them. I would like it so I can now close off the this object and then use either the pathfinder or shape builder tools to cut a chunk out of it. The problem i have is when I close the path at the bottom of the shape, it removes the blend gradient. When I expand the blend with Object > blend > expand, it removes the gradient as well. How do I achieve the blend that goes smoothly from one path to another, and then make the resulting object a path or shape that I can use with the shape builder or pathfinder tools? Hi, I have some text (converted to outlines), that I have added an off-set path to using Object > Path > Offset path. I now want to select only the offset path so I can change its color. Is the only way to select the offset paths to go into each individual sub layer for each letter's offset path, and do cmd-click? This seems a very laborious way of doing it? I have a few blocks of text I need to do this with and am hoping there is another way? Example below Many thanks, Paul.

Hi I've been using Live Paint and can see in the layers panel when you use it, it creates its own sub set of layers. I would like to further edit the artwork though i.e use the shape builder tool and the pathfinder again, but these tools aren't working since I've applied Live Paint. How do i get around this?
