Here is a checking sample of a pre-installed Charcoal Soft brush (other brushes work the same way, whether they are pre-installed or not). Is it what you need?

could you please share your brush? I checked the Overlapping mode with some art brushes (standard and my own) and it always worked well.

well, here is even easier way, I think it will be useful for this certain job. 1. Draw the half of your facing design and reflect it to get a symmetric image. 2. Create the background and put the face shape on your design. Make sure that the shape is also symmetric and centered with your design. You can, for example, draw a rectangle and use the Free Transform Tool to turn it into a symmetric trapeze. If needed, change the pattern size to get the best image inside the shape. 3. Create Clipping Mask (select all and use Cmd/Ctrl + 7 shortcut) You see, now the edges are symmetric and if we put another face instance side by side, the pattern will connect well. 4. Use Reflect tool. Set the reflection axis along the needed side of your face shape (1st click on the starting point, the 2nd on the ending one keeping the ALT button pressed). The copy will lean to the original shape. Repeat until you have the desired result. 5. Add other details. You can add strokes to each element or draw the common contouring shape and mark the folding lines by dashed strokes. well, making screenshots took even more time than the working process If you have any question, just ask, we'll clear the points.

show please the moment that is difficult for you. Is it creating Pattern Brush or Clipping Mask? Is it rotating the shape? Describing all the process with illustrations will take a lot of time and space here. It would be better if we could clear the certain moments.

Hi, For instance, you can create Pattern Brush and draw it into your shape. Do you need any workflow illustration to clear the idea?

And I return again to my previous idea I added a new path and put it in the highest position. As expected in this case, it was not shown in the paths list in InDesign. BUT when I set it as Clipping, it suddenly appeared. The very strange thing, actually.

Hi Barb, maybe I was not clear enough. I meant that if we don't set the path in Photoshop as Clipping, InDesign does not apply it automatically and we have to set in in Options dialog box. And when we set it previously in PSh (like you told, it's marked as Bold in the Path panel), it applies while placing without our further actions I guess there was some misunderstanding between us, but I hope that it might be helpful for someone anyway.

yes, surely, but on Sunday. Now I have too bad web connection and can't upload anything. I'll check the wjrkflow on another system and show the result. Maybe the problem was local and depended on the certain system/versions combination.

oh, yes, I've missed this mark. Maybe Shape Builder would be quite helpful here, but it's a lot of work with this main image.

it doesn't matter, the thing is to have the masking shape above the main image. When you combine them they will come to the higher layer.

To delete all outside elements you can use Crop function instead of Clipping Mask. 1. Use your expended image and put the masking shape above it. 2. Select all and click Crop button at the Pathfinder palette 3. Ungroup the result. 4. Delete the objects that have "None" as fill and stroke (you can select 1 element, you will see it at the edge of your masking shape, and then use Select -> Same -> Fill & Stroke command)

Well, I checked the workflow just now with Photoshop CC 17 and InDesign CC 17 — it worked the way I told before: InDesign did not see the saved Photoshop path if it was not set as Clipping Path. In case of several paths, InDesign uses the path that is defined as Clipping, and it can be changed by choosing another path if needed. For a moment I don't have CC 18 versions but I think they work the same way. So pity: I hoped to make my explanations for my students some shorter

The paths apply in InDesign automatically if they have been set as Clipping Paths in Photoshop. So ask your coworker to check if this has been done: Tracés -> Tracé De Détourage before sending it to you. Or you can use in InDesign Objet> Tracé De Détourage -> Options -> Photoshop Tracé to choose the path for clipping. You can also use Show Import Options (Afficher Les Options D'Importation) option during the import to set the clipping path at this step.

Don't change the paper colour. Projector also counts the White as Nothing (in RGB - the maximum level of whit ray). So the result will depend on your stage background like Jdanek says.

Well, I don't see the files and maybe guess too complex figure, but when you use in TOC the same styles as in titles, some advanced settings might provide such issues. For example, Size, Spacing, Start Paragraph etc. So it could be better to create one style for titles and another style for TOC entries. But if your Title stiles don't have any advanced settings, it's not so needed.

1. create the artboards which you need using Artboard tool. 2. Select your artwork. You can "draw a rectangle" around your artwork by Selection Tool or open the Layers panel and select all layers there Click on the cells to the right to the circles. All selected layers will move, scale etc. together. Move them keeping ALT button pressed to copy. Scale as you need.

1. Set the page size exactly 3840x2160px (use Web or Mobile type of publication and pixels as ruler units (Edit-Preferences-Units-Horizontal/Vertical = Pixels)). Make your layout as you need. 2. Export with 72 ppi resolution.

The thing is that when you set the same colour to Fill and Stroke and turn on the Overprint Stroke attribute, the program recognizes this as a manually setting of Trapping. In this case, it changes the Fill size to overlap the half of Stroke weight and provide an external overlapping area. As you have the same colour for Fill and Stroke, you see only the external overprinting part of Stroke. It does not depend on the Stroke alignment. You can check it trying to decrease the Fill Opacity. So if you want to print with only 2 inks, you have to usee 2 shapes, one with empty Fill and overprinting Stroke, and another with empty Stroke and non-overprinting Fill. But yes, Ton, this looks like a bug because using another Stroke colour goes the same way.

for the not too long set (such as yours, 10-20 items) you can also try the Blend tool. 1. Make your flags set (each flag is a group) 2. Connect them with Blend tool and set the Specified Steps = 1 and Align to Path option 3. Create the circle, use scissors to open the path and choose Replace Spine command in Object menu 4. Expand and ungroup the result 5. Delete the intermediate items I used the same amount of flags as yours, 16. The process took about a minute

this seems like if your system doesn't have enough resources for all the running tasks and delays its reaction for your pressing. In this case, sometimes tablet is the first what is put to the last turn. Try to close the unnecessary programs and check the result. What will happen?

Check also your font style. Sometimes you can have a style (e.g. Medium or Semibold) which is absent in another font set. If it's default in your document, this may cause the problem. Converting between families with the most common style sets adjusts it and you see a good result.
