Thanks. But I still don't get it; I don't see the key when I'm in the InDesign document. Could you make a screen shot of where to find it?

OK I never knew what that symbol was called. I tried list view but it doesn't appear next to the document. Is there a key I should be using? Or is there no command or menu item to simply find the error from within the document when it is open? That would make life so much simpler.

Going through the document I found many images were in silhouette or partially grayed out. I fixed all those links and still had the error message. there were no hyperlinks. Restarting seems to have solved the problem. It has never occurred before. As far as I know my MAC has given full access to InDesign. Thanks for the suggestions.

If this is the key with the period and the > symbol above it, nothing happens. Restarting the computer seems to have solved the problem.

The screenshots were and are attached. This is what happened when I tried to save a PDF. Some of the problems were graphics which I tracked down. I shut the computer down and restarted and the problem was apparently solved. I'm still curious as to why it happened.

I made the mistake of synching to iCloud and ended up losing everything. With the help of an Apple support person I clawed it back. Now when I try to export my InDesign document I get the attached messages. I saw that some images were missing, and replaced them. No problems detectable in the Links panel, no silhouettes of missing art. No idea where the missing URLs are. Do I have to reflow all the text and remake the hundreds of corrections I've already made? Is there any way to identify the problems? I really do not want to relink to the Cloud which has caused nothing but problems. The versions there are inaccurate now anyway.

I have solved the problem by saving the Word document in Rich Text Format. What a relief.

I am using a MAC with the Sonoma 14.3.1 system. I have imported a complex document into InDesign 19.4. from Microsoft Word. Its bold, italic, all caps formatting must be preserved, but I want to change the base font from Times Roman to Brigade (available in Creative Cloud). When I went to Find/Replace font over instances of 6000 Times Roman fonts were listed, with the Bold or Italic, etc. repeated incessantly. It's as if each instance is a distinctly different font. If I select a group of them to replace, the number of fonts goes down by one, no matter how many have been selected. (See screen shotsb elow)/ I tried using "change format" but most of the Times Roman did not change. In addition, some of the formatting is lost when I import. An entire line that begins with a bold word becomes bold in InDesign, when only the first word is bold in Microsoft Word. Are there settings I should impose to solve these problems? Maybe I'm stuck with Times Roman. But I don't want to go through this lengthy document to fix the import errors, either.

But think of the cool programming they've done! Who cares if it's practical? It's like architectural criticism: a lot of chat about a lot of theory while the average person on the street has to suffer with an ugly building.

And yet it would be so simple to move to a framework where it was an integral, automatic part of the program, like every other program. The same is true of the fonts list in Creative Cloud, which has no scroll bars either.

Happily I don't get that suggestion. I still don't understand why Adobe took scroll bars out in the first place, and why they won't put them in the CC fonts list. Engineers work in strange ways their wonders to perform.

I think it's possible to turn off the upgrade permanently, though I'm not sure how. I contacted Adobe support and let them take over my computer for a while to install a version that works. The agent said he turned off the upgrade feature for Acrobat only. I think the version I have is from 2022. Now we just have to get them to put scroll bars on the Fonts lists in Creative Cloud.

Unfortunately the text is being copyedited and I don't know if those styles have been applied in the Word documents. It would be impossible to impose them in InDesign as there are so many occurrences of each format. Would overriding overrides in ID work somehow?

I am working on a bibliography whose text includes all the usual font weights plus some words in all caps, some in small caps. Variations are from paragraph to paragraph. The Word document has been prepared to accommodate these differences. When it is flowed into InDesign, many peculiar things happen. Entire paragraphs are all caps, are italics, are both etc. No character styles have been applied. There should be one for the first word of the paragraph; this is not applied with the paragraph style. When the text is flowed in the various caps, italics, small caps etc. must be maintained while allowing the regular text to be regular text. I just checked a previous version, and this problem was not occurring. I did change the font, but surely that wouldn't cause this problem? Why would this happen? What do I do? I' am attaching the original Word document and the InDesign document. Any help greatly appreciated.

The lost mind is Adobe's. Why this basic feature is not included is beyond me. Considering the lack of response about the missing scroll bars in Acrobat I'm sure we'll never see this one resolved.

Try installing an older version of Acrobat, such as 2020 version. A less modern experience perhaps but one that works.

Few of us can. And yet Adobe is cheerfully touting Acrobat "if you use PDFs."
