Try an earlier version, such as 2020. It is ridiculous that they removed the scroll bars (and that there aren't any in the open fonts list).

Go back to an earlier version of Acrobat. I believe I'm using the 2020 version.

An Adobe font (Garamond Premier Pro) is showing oddly in PDFs — and inconsistently so. Is this because of someone else's computer? He is using a PC, not a MAC (which I am), but that should not make any difference. These are the smallest file size; I'm hoping the higher resolution will not have the problem.

Some characters that look fine in the original InDesign document are not appearing correctly when translated to a PDF. These are smallest file size PDFs for review. A couple of characters are not in the Roman Alphabet, but "A" is a Roman character. Another "improvement" on the part of Adobe?

Go back to the 2020 version (I think there's a link to it in this thread somewhere; alas I don't remember how I did it). And join us all in waiting for Adobe to be less benighted.

That's what you said in September. If the scroll bars were there until this misguided, inane decision to remove them, why is it so hard to put them back? And why aren't there any in the fonts menu in Creative Cloud? Does Adobe have something against scroll bars?

Someone recommended I use the style highlighter to check my document. Where is it?

OK I will reveal how completely techologically inept I am. How does one upvote a posting? I feel badly that many people have upvoted mine, and i can't return the favor.

My document has a number of Cyrillic fonts that were successfully reproduced in a low-resolution PDF — until today. Now they are fine in the original InDesign document but showing as little X'd boxes in the PDF. I tried saving the PDF in a high-resolution format and that worked — once. Now it doesn't . The font is Adobe Garamond Premier Pro Medium, which DOES have these fonts in its family. I'll have to try Times New Roman as a substitute, I guess. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be because in desperation I am using Acrobat 2020 instead of 2024, so scroll bars are accessible? If so, another it's another Adobe problem they have to answer for.

Thanks, Barb. I'm going to try your system. What I do is simply find/replace type. This may not be clearing all the old styles properly. Where exactly is the styles override highlighter? Well, I'll look!

This document includes Arabic characters and many Roman alphabet italic characters with diacritical marks. I created character styles for the latter and spent hours selecting each character and applying the style. It was perfect. Now I've opened the document again and all the character styles are lost. If I reapply they don't work maybe once or twice, and then they don't. Using Roman rather than Times New Roman Italic for these diacritical characters seems to work, but it won't work for bold small caps characters (it did before). I am NOT basing anything on the dreaded "Basic Paragraph." In fact this happened after I changed all my styles so they are not based on it. If I redefine the character style by hand it makes no difference. If I individually style each character it makes no difference. Since I can't delete preferences by holding down the keys (it just doesn't happen) I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. The problem persists. Attached are a PDF showing the correct fonts and the document. Was my mistake moving the same styles from another document into this one?

Thanks, but there are too many crucial local overrides (such as italicized words) to risk losing them.

I tend to handle all of Word the same way. I do need to keep italics and bolds intact when importing. My editor is generally good about removing extra lines spaces between paragraphs and other oddities. But it's still annoying when InDesign doesn't override the font used in word with the font used in InDesign. Maybe it's me, but ID 2024 seems buggy.

Shouldn't love mean Adobe doesn't have to say they're sorry? But they should be! I'm using Acrobat 2020, just seems simpler.

Many thanks to everyone who warned me about the Basic Paragraph style. I've replaced it with my own private style, and the document formatting is working much better. I will ignore it from now on!

Word is complex enough as it is. I don't mind making fixes in InDesign, but I don't understand why sometimes it retains the Word formatting even when a style has been applied.

I'm sorry, I don't understand this at all. The Word styles have been replaced by InDesign Styles. The applied format disappeared in InDesign. What do you mean by "the underlying style?"

How does one apply InDesign paragraph styles to imported Word text so that the style is actually applied? Surely there's an easier way than the several steps i have been going through for years: selecting all and changing the size; find/replace type for every variation of weight. The text will show the plus sign in the paragraph style menu, which isn't much help. I can see that it's wrong.

I don't quite understand. What do you mean by "use Basic Paragraph style in brackets"? I plan to change all the styles to be based on single style other than Basic Paragraph in any case.
