Let me lock folders too! It feels safe and gives an extra way to organize large projects - it give an item kind of a status - either 'Done' or 'Don't touch' or 'Template' or whatever you can think about. People forget about Hidden layers all the time. Is that a reason to remove that feature? What is the downside of the ability to lock precious project items?

I wrote an expression that gets After Effects on its knees directly after opening or importing the project. It would be great when Safe Mode had an option to disable expressions, so the user can correct or remove the culprits.

Many of use use expressions all the time, but the tools for writing those still feel like a beta version. The CTI overlaps the expression, the expression is contained in the timeline, which can cause confusing situations, errors are not positioned in the right location etc. How great would it be to edit expressions in a separate panel, with a and modern clear UI?

In many cases, the debugger comes up with a line number that does not exist. (e.g. an error on line 71, while the expression consists of 69 lines). It's hard to say when exactly this problem shows up, but it occurs a lot, so I guess more users have experienced this behaviour.

You can copy/past both Masks to Illustrator. Then you can use Join and/or Pathfinder to combine 'm. And then copy/paste back to Ae.

A long time wish: The Fill effect becomes much more versatile, when it could blend with the layer it is applied to. In the current version, it replaces the layer content completely. The effects Opacity setting acts as layer Opacity rather than the effect's Opacity.

When using the Roto Brush effect, 'Reset' should initialize the effect to the state it was when applied to a layer for the first time. But unfortunately it does not. Reproduce: Choose the Rotobrush tool, start painting on footage. Hit reset. See how the paint strokes still remain.

When creating series of graphics, it is nice to check the number of e.g. created Comps. It would be nice if After Effects shows the number of selected items in the upper left of the project panel.

Once in a while this trouble reoccurs. Now in the lates After Effects 25.5.0, it's there again. The .mov is ok, can be opened by any software except Adobe apps. There seems to be a relation with the 'amount of alpha' in the video. If there is a lot of alpha, maybe the decompression algoritm Adobe uses fails. The only workaround is rendering image sequences.

Locked layers should be protected for change, not for peaking values. E.g.: the waveform of a locked layer can't be show - it has to be unlocked first.

Thanks for your suggestion. Then I have to click the swatch and copy the selected hex code (which is 8 bit per color). I just want to right click on any color field and copy it (and next step: drag it were possible). The context menu now says 'Edit Value', which is the same as just left clicking it - I think no one ever uses it that way. It rather could say 'Copy color'.

Please add this functionality throughout the app: Right click on a color swatch inside any effect or panel, to bring up a context menu with Copy and Paste possibillities. The eyedropper is not always the best solution when copy colors from e.g. one Comp to another.

Fill toggle is a very common computer graphics technique dat Illustrator should honor. Unfortunately, Illustrator stops with toggling after 3 overlapping shapes. A letter 'O' works. An O with a dot in the middle works, but when adding a fourth concentric circle, Illustrator gives up and let the user struggling to select and change path direction manually via the Attributes. I need to toggle hundreds of concentric circles, kind of like the OP asks a solution for.

For some chroma key jobs where Keylight fails, the good old Color Range keyer gets better results. But unfortunately, it is stuck in the 8bit era. Please update it to work with 16bit.

I'm somewhat annoyed by the attempt of Adobe Premiere to force the user in their own immature way of accessing files from within the app. Please let Mac users use their known filebrowser, shortcuts and sidebar. Or at least give the option in Premiere's Settings. Its annoying to navigate through hierarchies, while we know that there is an sidebar alias at hand. Update: The Adobe import interface appears when importing an Ae-Comp via Dynamic Link.

For some kinds of Projects, I rely on a set o f scripts to speed up things. I would like to see a Scripts panel to have these scripts handy. And on top of that, it would be nice to assign a key shortcut to each of the scripts.

When Copying a layer in the timeline to the clipboard, the project panel reacts with a random scroll. This feels like something uncontrolled went wrong. Reproduce this: -Project with a lot of (opened) folders and footage -Timeline with several layers -scroll to somewhere half way the project items -select a layer in the Timeline -choose 'Copy' -see how project panel view changes

Using an Adjustment Layer to distort underlying layers, e.g. Position and Skew (Screenshot 1), when rendered to RGBA with a Straight alpha, shows a strange behaviour in the RGB channels: both the original and the distorted underlying graphics are included (Screenshot 2). When Create Outlines is invoked for a multiline text, the Grouping could be much better. Currently, when choosing to ungroup the result, every character becomes a separate object. How great would it be when Create Outlines makes a 4 level Group hierarchy this way: Text > Paragaphs > Lines > Words > Characters So 4x ungroup results in separate characters. 3x gives separate words (separator = space), 2x gives separate lines (separator = return), 1x gives separate Paragraphs (empty line / double return = separator). Makes sense, doesn't it?

Sorry, came to this post with a Text object in mind, but further inspection shows that this thread is not about Text. Still, for my project I need (editable) Text to have an inside Stroke. None of the Adobe CC apps can do it, for obvious reasons - it can turn out ugly and maybe will hang the apps, due to intersecting values. But I can think of an algorithm that can handle this. For now I found a workaround with After Effects Layer Styles, but it is not the most convenient way:
