Ann is right.
Chroma keying creates an alpha channel in the footage in your timeline, so you don't need a source file with an alpha. It's just extra bytes that serve no useful purpose.
The only time you'd need to import a file with an alpha channel is if you intend to composite it as-is (no keying). The only time you'd need to export a file with an alpha channel is as a digital intermediate that will be composited elsewhere.

Then I have no idea what is going on, sadly.
To start troubleshooting, I recommend saving your current setup as a keyboard shortcut preset if you haven't done it already.
Then go back to the default preset and change only the up/down shortcuts, and the next/previous edit shortcuts. Save that as a "test" preset and see if things work as expected for you.

The 7% normal rendering is the audio portion. Things slow down when Pr hits the video portion.
Just curious; why 5728x3024? For a 1.0 PAR, Pr thinks that 5034x3024 is correct. Alternatively, Pr likes 5728x3020 as a square pixel PAR.
Please try one of those 2 resolutions to see if things move faster.

It's not clear from your screenshot what you have assigned for the up/down arrows for the Go To Next/Previous Edit Point under the Application shortcuts group.
That's what Pr is doing when you're not in the Timeline panel; it's using whatever is set in the Application shortcuts group.

You could also try nesting the 16:9 footage in a new sequence, and stabilizing the footage in the nested sequence. Then rotate the nested sequence in your timeline.
That forces Pr to stabilize then rotate and hopefully you will get the result you want.

If you can drop the clips from the project panel that don't work in the problem timeline into a new timeline and they work okay, then Bob's suggestion should fix your issue.
If you can't do that, then please examine the clips that work *and* those that don't with MediaInfo to see if you can spot any differences in clip properties that may be affecting their performance in Pr.

I'm sorry the ideas I had didn't work. I'm happy, though, that you found a workaround. It sucks that you have to run all those files through Handbrake, but it beats crashing and buying new hardware.
Will the camera allow you to change format or codec? If so, maybe there's a more Premiere-friendly setting you can use.
Regardless, it's good that you can get down to editing without the errors!

Hi Stewart,
If you can get that file to open in the source monitor without crashing, please do that. While looking at the source monitor open the interpret footage dialog and override the color space to Rec 709. Be prepared for anything, including the image looking normal in the source monitor or having Pr crash on you again.
If you get the crash, or some other unpleasant thing, then you need to try to install the most recent *Studio* drivers from the Nvidia web site. I recommend doing a clean install.
Hopefully one or both of those things will fix your crashing.

My bad. Old habits die hard. Modify used to be in the File menu, oh, 7 or 8 versions ago. Now it's under Clip>Modify>Interpret Footage.
Select the clip in the Project panel (not the timeline). Use the Clip menu from there, or right-click the clip in the Project panel and choose Modify>Interpret Footage.

I would almost bet that it has to do with the graphics engine in the M1 chip.
If you like, PM me and give me a link to download the file. NDA stuff, too, if necessary. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro running Monterey and I have Compressor and FCP. I can check if the clip gives Pr trouble on an Intel chip with AMD graphics. Failing that, I can see if transcoding it to another codec fixes your problem.

See if you can import just one of the troublesome MOV files. Once it's imported, go to File>Modify>Interpret Footage and post a screenshot of that.
Neil may come by and confirm or deny it, but I think the 10-bit video and Rec 709 color space may be misinterpreted by Pr.

Two things, Eric. Just for fun, try putting the DNxHD clip on your internal SSD and then deleting all your cache files by opening Pr from a shortcut and going to Preferences>Media Cache. Then open your project and see if the clip behaves any better. Do try loading it directly into Media Encoder and see if you can export a clean copy from there. (If I missed that you already tried that, apologies.)

I am not, but that doesn't help you.
A technique that I use is project versioning. When you get to a point in your edit where you're happy with what you just did, go to File>Save As and save the project with a number after the name. So instead of just saving "My Project", you'd save as "My Project 01". You may even want to include a tiny bit of text to remind yourself why you saved that version, such as "My Project 01 - ready for keying".
If things go "just crazy" after that, you can easily return to saved project state that will let you try again.

So your steps would be like this:
Export your edited timeline just like RjL said; 1920x1080 @ 24 fps. Use a high-quality codec like ProRes 422 or Cineform.
Import that new clip into Ae for keying.
If you still need to edit/tweak the video, export a high quality file from Ae using the same codec you used to export from Pr. Import it back into Pr and finish editing. Export from Pr using the format and codec you need to deliver to the client.
If you're done with editing the video, export from Ae using the format and codec that you need for delivery to the client.

Two requests. The first is necessary and the second I am hesitant to make.
1. Please post a screenshot of the tree or text view from MediaInfo for your DNxHD mov file. There may be a clue there as to why Pr is choking on it.
2. If you load the DNxHD clip directly into the Adobe Media Encoder, can you export a clean copy? Say in ProRes 422? If not, then my next request is to use Compressor (if you have it), QuickTime Player, iMovie, or <gasp> FCP to export a clean copy in ProRes for use in Pr.

It sounds like Pr is confused somehow about the .pek files.
Try deleting all of your cache files from Preferences>Media Cache. That should trigger a re-conform of your project audio because there will no longer be any .pek files left to confuse the software.
