You will need to join the path at each of the reflection points by using the Direct Select tool. Drag a box around the points so both are selected and then use Cmd(Ctrl)-J to join.

What OS, what version of AI and which printer are you using? Since AI writes printer into each file as it is saved it is important to get this right. Does your printer have the option to print PostScript files? More information is needed.

My own opinion the lines are too narrow to effectively use a gradient. You could try using Outline stroke but I don't think it will help much.

Try turning off "Borderless Printing". Most borderless is done by scaling up the output by a couple of percent to make sure that that it covers the page.

They may be images from a phone which can be in 16 bit mode. You might need to try opening them in Photoshop and resaving them as 8 bit JPG or PNG.

As Michael has mentioned, Cmd(Ctrl)-Y is a toggle between Outline and Preview modes. Use it once to switch, use it again to switch back.
