I find that the act of clicking on the circle with the Type on a Path Tool changes the circle from a Shape (Ellipse) to a Type object. The Type Path can then be selected and modified with the Direct Selection Tool:   You can then (while Direct-Selected) choose the Selection Tool and further modify it with the bounding box, or select the path with the Group Selection Tool and modify the path with the Scale Tool or other modifiers. That will cut the arc at the path of the square, but the caps of the arc ends will be normal [perpendicular to the tangent] to the arc path at the intersection, so will appear to cut diagonally across the square. Assuming that's not the desired result, the options I can think of at the moment are a) duplicate the square and use it as a clipping mask on the arc (which hides but does not remove the undesired parts) and b) select the arc, go to Object > Path > Outline Stroke, then select arc and square and use Shape Builder tool + alt/opt key. to remove the unwanted portions. Hi, Annabelle, I believe that you have over-complicated your setup. My guess is that something in steps 1 and 2 was not clear to you. I will attempt to explain how to fix the setup. 1. In the Layers panel cmd/ctrl-click the eye icon to the left of Layer 3. This will make the lemon image visible on the artboard. 2. Click the disclosure arrow to the left of Lemon [which is a sub-layer, and not the image itself]. This will reveal and allow access to the image in the Layers panel. 3. Click and hold on the image in the Layers panel and drag it upward until Layer 3 is highlighted, then release. 4. Click on the sub-layer Lemon to highlight it, then click the trash can icon at lower right to delete. 5. Double-click Layer 3 and make it a template layer with whatever dimming percentage you may prefer. 6. Double-click Layer 1 and turn off the Template setting. 7. With nothing selected or highlighted go to View menu > Outline of press cmd/ctrl-Y. You may then proceed to Step 4 in your instruction book (clicking individual mesh points with the Direct Selection tool); however, in Step 5 I think you will find it necessary to shift-click with the Eyedropper tool to pick up the colors. You will need to return to Preview mode (cmd/ctrl-Y) to see the results of your color selection. Adjusting font size is far outside the capability of Envelope Distort. Not being a scripter I have no idea if a script could accomplish such an adjustment, nor if there's another way to automate such a task.   I found it pretty quick to type the words into a single area type object, adjust one word's font size and tracking to establish the width I wanted, then select each word in turn and click and scroll in the font size field in the Character panel until the size was right, then do same in the Leading field. You have moved the shape to the front of its group and the type to the bottom of its sublayer, so the stacking order is still wrong.   In the Layers panel drag the shape out of its group and drop it above the type you want to reshape. If I go to the View menu and choose View using CPU I get the result you describe, or nearly: a small portion of the pre-release path may be very faintly visible, but effectively invisible. Returning to View using GPU restores visibility. That's the best I can offer at the moment.   Peter ... View more
