I'm working on a long manuscript.  I was having certain problems yesterday with this document crashing InD, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and recreated the document (luckily I wasn't very deep into it at that point).    All was well until today when I needed to make frequent use of the Find/Replace box.  Now, a different problem has sprung up. As I'm typing in the search phrase, my cursor jumps back to the beginning of the field, and my search phrase ends up garbled.  For example, I searched for the phrase, "inseparable from laptop use," but because the cursor jumped around, the phrase ended up as "laptop use inseparable from."  I first thought it was user error and tried to type it again, but the same thing happened again with various results -- none of it matching what I was trying to type.  I finally had to type very, very slowly and pause between each keystroke before I could get the phrase correctly entered into the field.   Has anyone else experienced this problem with recent program updates?  Does anyone know what is causing it or how to fix or avoid it?   Thanks much in advance for any info.  (P.S. Here's my experience: I draw a line with the line tool, stroke it, and position it where I want it.  No prob. If I should need to adjust its length, I choose the appropriate end on the proxy to lock in the direction toward which it will adjust, and then adjust the length numerically in the length field, point by point, so I can get it exactly right. The stroke changes length just fine throughout the process, but it also simultaneously creeps upward and a little to the side, toward the anchored end. Basically, the line doesn't stay where I put it. I thought it might have something to do with the object scaling settings in the General tab of Preferences, but I'm not sure. I've attached a screen shot of my current and most common settings of this preference.   I've noticed this behavior many, many times and usually just drag the line back to where it belongs and keep going with my work. But I thought maybe it was time to ask about this to find out if anyone else has had this experience and if you know why it happens or how to make it stop (or what I might be doing wrong!). -- Thanks much for any feedback. 🙂 ... USING:  Win 10 and latest Adobe updates   In general usage and to take a quick look at .jpgs, etc., directly from a File Explorer folder, I have for the longest time kept my .jpg and .png default file types set to open in a simple photo app. I don't always want to open Photoshop. Photoshop sucks up a lot of RAM, so I just don't really like to open it until I need it.    But even with this setting in place, I've always had Photoshop as an "edit with" option when I need to edit a link from within InDesign -- a time when I DO want to open Photoshop.   However, recently, the Photoshop "edit with" option is not appearing in my InDesign "edit with" choices in the Links palette. I imagine (assume, expect) that it might "come back" if I switch my default .jpg/etc. app to Photoshop. But I'd really rather not do that as I don't want to open PShop in general every time I need to get a quick look at the random .jpg.   I know I can access such files via Bridge without opening PShop, but that is an inconvenient substitute for a quick peek as one must open the program and navigate to the file folder and then, depending on the number of files, search among what is there. Not what I need.   I would very much like to have PShop back again as an option in the "edit with" list in InDesign when I need it to be there.  Does anyone have any ideas about this situation -- why that option went away?  How to get it back without having to make PShop my only default for bitmap images?  Thanks in advance. ... I have several concerns/confusions about document presets.   1st CONCERN     I do book layouts every day for my main client. We use a variety of sizes. I have created several personal templates based on previous books I've set up, but our size varieties are expanding, so I've been looking into using InDesign's document preset function, just in case it might save me some time in future.     This evening, I set up a document with all the measurements I require for a 5x8 book, then took additional time to create paragraph styles that I will always use during book layout projects; I divvied them up into four style group folders. I saved this preset as "5x8 book layout w/styles." My intent was to then save this template at other sizes but have all the paragraph styles already set up.     I then created a new document based on this 5x8 preset by going to File>Document Presets and choosing the template I'd just saved. (I actually first looked at File>New>Document>Print>View All Presets, but it didn't show up there as I expected.)     The new document had all the correct measurements, but the paragraph styles menu was completely empty except for Basic Paragraph.     So, my first concern is, can paragraph styles not be saved in document presets?  Yes, I can go back to creating templates the way I've done them before, but with all the new sizes we're beginning to use, I just wanted to make more use of built-in InDesign functions. But it would be very helpful if paragraph styles could be retained within the presets. Am I doing something wrong in the creation or saving of my document preset or am I just hoping for something that isn't there?   2nd CONCERN     I also am a little confused about document presets vs. page size presets. There are a couple different ways I've come across to create document presets, and one of them -- not sure which -- popped up a spot where I was to name a page preset. I didn't really know why this was being requested, but I went ahead and gave a page name of "5x8 page - portrait."     Later, when I went to File>New>Document>Print>View All Presets, expecting to find my document preset, I instead found the "5x8 page - portrait" preset.     Why is a page size preset showing up where one would expect document presets to be parked?  And why wasn't my document preset there?     What is best use of a page size preset anyway?  One would never (could not ever) create just a page outside of a document, so I don't really get the point. Anyone have any insight about this?   3rd CONCERN     In any case, there are way too many presets hanging out under the "new document" options. From what I've noticed so far, new presets are saved to the end of the list. I'd like to remove the presets I don't need so that I don't have to scroll through all of them to get to the ones I want or that I have created.  I only want to remove them from view, not delete them forever.  The info that I've found so far about how to do this has been vague and confusing.  Maybe I just haven't found the best resource as yet.     I did search out the folder where document presets live, thinking I'd just move the ones I didn't want into another saved folder, but I couldn't recognize any of the file names I was looking at; they were all truncated and peculiar, and perhaps it wasn't even the correct folder, though it was the Presets folder in the Application folder).     I also wouldn't mine knowing how to ditch all 49 template thumbnail photos that show up on the File>New>Print page below the Blank Document Presets.   IN SUMMARY ...     I've looked online for info about all these items but I'm finding conflicting info in some cases and unclear or no info in others.  I'd love to make use of the document presets functions in InDesign, and having the sizes and margins all entered ahead of time is helpful, but retaining all the paragraph styles I took the time to set up would be even better. I'm away from home, working for the weekend on my laptop. I opened a PDF I needed to edit, but the Acrobat user interface is all different.   On my desktop at home, I have Acrobat Pro. There, when I want to comment/edit (using all the edit and proofing tools available under the Comment option), I'm able to see my added comments in a list down the right side of the screen and to expand or collapse the side bar where they are contained. I'm able to select the comments, check them off when I do them, make new comments, etc., and they're all in a nice, neat column that allows me to hop around in the program easily.   Today on my laptop, I don't have the same maneuverability.   Instead, there is a tiny tool bar with some tools I don't need but can't remove, and missing tools I do need that aren't there, so I have to "customize" to add them (and in customizing, I still can't get rid of the ones I don't want.) When I select a tool, more often the cursor just jumps to another tool instead of becoming available to use. I have to fight to get a balloon/comment bubble to show up at all just so I can type in it.   When I do manage to make comments, they stack on top of each other along the edge of the document, overlapping and obscuring each other. This is confusing, making me uncertain sometimes if the comments I thought I made actually "held." Sometimes the text I've selected to comment on won't stay highlighted long enough for me to comment at all, or the selection will unselect when I try to choose a tool.    I have uninstalled this very aggravating version of Acrobat via the CC app. I found an Adobe site from which I was supposedly downloading Acrobat Pro and did so. But when I ran the install, it simply opened the CC app and reinstalled the same screwy version I'd uninstalled -- which was not Pro. Or, if it is, it is a ruined app and I hope to heck when I get back home and start to work again on my desktop, that it hasn't updated itself to this new, screwy, aggravating, useless, ineffective, maddening version that I've now realized I cannot use. I must wait until I get home to have even a hope of getting my work done. Time and days wasted on this trip because of this useless version of Acrobat.   Does anyone know anything about this and any ideas about how to get back the version of Acrobat I'd really prefer? The CC app doesn't seem to offer "earlier versions.'   This makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. I just noticed today on my computer that in the title bar of what is supposed to be Acrobat DC, my Acrobat software reads Acrobat Pro (32-bit). I moved to Acrobat DC a long time ago, a few years at least. I have no idea when or how this backstep to Acrobat Pro occurred. When I search on my PC for Acrobat DC, it is not found. When I check my CC dashboard, it shows that my Acrobat install is up to date (I also checked for updates; still shows "up to date"). On the CC dashboard, the installed program name reads only "Acrobat," with no mention of either DC or Pro. Therefore, I don't officially know which version of Acrobat I have installed, though presumably it is Acrobat Pro since that is what opens on my computer. The CC dashboard offers no other Acrobat program (such as DC) that I could install. Under Help>About in Acrobat Pro on my system, the version reads "22.003.20314.0"  I am using a 64-bit Windows 10 system.   Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I'd like to get Acrobat DC back on my computer, but it doesn't even appear available via the CC dashboard. Did Adobe ditch DC or change the name back to Pro?
