After Effects Beta timeline Modes column becomes visible in header but unusable/collapsed in rowsIn After Effects Beta, the Timeline panel shows the Mode column header, but the actual blend mode dropdowns for each layer do not appear or remain clipped, even when the timeline columns/panel are stretched wider. The Track Matte and other switch columns remain visible, but the Mode controls are not accessible.Expected behavior:When the Mode column is enabled, each layer row should show its blend mode dropdown, such as Normal, Multiply, etc.Actual behavior:The Mode header is visible, but the row controls are hidden/collapsed/clipped and cannot be revealed by resizing the column or panel.Things tried:Dragging the column/panel wider Toggling Switches/Modes Using the exposed Switches command Checking timeline column layoutEnvironment:Impact:The user cannot access or change layer blending modes from the Timeline panel even though the Mode column appears enabled. After Effects Beta macOS Timeline

Hello AE beta users! Version 26.3.058 of After Effects Beta introduces scripting APIs for Parametric 3D Meshes. These new APIs enable you to use scripting to create and customize the six types of parametric 3D meshes introduced in After Effects 26.0: cube, sphere, plane, torus, cone and cylinder. The new Parametric Mesh menu Whether you want to create precise data visualizations or just fill a comp with dozens of colorful cubes and spheres, scripting makes it easy. New APIs Check layer type Layer instanceof ParametricMeshLayer Description Enables the script author to check whether layer is a parametric 3D mesh layer. Type Boolean; read-only. Create mesh layer LayerCollection.addParametricMesh(name, parametricMeshType) Description Creates a new parametric 3D mesh layer. Parameters Parameter Type Description name String The name of the new layer parametricMeshType Parame
When using the object matte brush, it is cumbersome to find the Freeze button at the far right of the layer window. since I have 2 comp windows side by side open. could have the Freeze button avail in the Effects panel with the Object matte effects?
In After Effects Beta 25.1 Build 36, we are pleased to announce Quick Set Anchor, a more efficient way to change the anchor point on your 2D layers to any of 9-commonly-used-points — all the corners and centers of your layer’s edges. And it's available both from the Properties Panel and anywhere else by keyboard shortcut! Quick Set Anchor can be launched by selecting a layer (or layers!) and clicking the new Anchor Point icon next to the Anchor Point property in the Properties Panel, creating a temporary pop-over Quick Set Anchor Dialog that allows you to click your preferred anchor point location, automatically close the dialog, and be on your way! Besides the Anchor Point button in the Properties Panel, you can also bring up the Quick Set Anchor Dialog by using the keyboard shortcut Shift + Tab to create the temporary pop-over right below your mouse, ready for you to click your anchor point of choice without taking your eyes away from your comp content. Press the shortcut. Cl
Hello everyone, With After Effects (Beta) build 24.3.0.20 and later, there are now several new scripting attributes available for Box Text layers. These new attributes—listed below—control how and where your text is arranged and aligned inside of its box, and are not currently available in the UI.We need your feedback on how these new options might be put to use in your projects and where you would expect them to be found in the interface of After Effects. For those of you familiar with Illustrator, most of these new attributes are equivalent to the Offset and Align options found in the Area Type Options dialog. The new attributes for Box Text are: Vertical Alignment — The existing default value is always Top, but in Beta, you can now use TextDocument.boxVerticalAlignment to set the alignment to Center, Bottom, or Justify. Justify will equally space out the lines in the vertical space of the text box. First Baseline — This controls the distance between the top of the text box and the b
Hello AE Beta users,We have a very fun new feature for you to try in After Effects beta 26.2x31: Parametric Meshes now support displacement of Substance 3D Materials. Displacement uses the material’s height data to push the mesh’s geometry into 3D space. It can add a subtle texture to increase realism and dimension or turn simple shapes into complex, detailed models. Substance 3D materials with displacement can take a simple 3D shape from this:to this!A complex 3D material of stained glass windows in a stone wall applied to a sliced 3D cylinder meshIn addition, Substance 3D materials that include emissive textures will now render correctly, creating the glow visible in the stained-glass windows above or this fracturing planet:Material with both displacement and emissive propertiesNote that Advanced 3D doesn't support true emission; the material will light up, but it won't cast light onto other objects. Getting StartedApply a Substance 3D material (SBSAR) that supports displacement to a
SVG content on the operating system clipboard copied from Illustrator and other applications can now be pasted into an After Effects project via the Edit -> Paste menu. The contents will be imported as native, editable shape layers that are ready to animate. Copying from IllustratorIllustrator support requires the Clipboard Handling preference "Include SVG Code" to be checked in the Illustrator application preferences. Pasting into After EffectsIf no Project is open in After Effects, when SVG content is on the clipboard, Edit -> Paste will create a new Project with a Composition containing a Layer with the SVG content. When pasting into an existing Project when no Composition is selected, a new Composition will be created within the current Project containing the pasted SVG content. With a Composition currently selected in After Effects, the SVG content will be added to a new layer within the selected Composition. Known limitationsSVG Text will need to be converted to curves bef
We've been having a lot of fun with a new effect we're calling Curl Noise, and we want you to try it.If you've ever wanted a noise effect that feels less like static grain and more like smoke, flowing water, or swirling ink— that's the space Curl Noise is aimed at. It generates smooth, animated 2D noise with a fluid, organic quality that's naturally well-suited to backgrounds, texture overlays, abstract motion, and anywhere you want movement that flows rather than flickers. The reason it feels different from other noise effects is in how the noise field is curled — the vectors that define the noise are rotated so they always flow tangentially, which is what gives the result that characteristic fluid quality. Crank up Swirl and it starts to coil and spiral. Push Turbulence Speed and it churns. Keep things subtle and it just... drifts. Here are some examples… Curl Noise with Default SettingsModify the Transform properties and add some swirlReduce the swirl, add in smoothness and a little
Custom Shortcut - Unable to set SHIFT + N, where N is an integer from 1-6. I’d like to be able to use SHIFT + N to navigate Comp Markers; like in the good old days. FWIW, 1-6 are already set up for the 3D Gizmo - so, I was hoping to use the SHIFT + N for navigation purposes. So, it seems like the system locks shortcuts SHIFT + N (N=1-6) for navigation even when the user has selected to use 1-6 for 3D Gizmos.I can get the shortcuts SHIFT + M (M=7-9) to work for navigation purposes. This is super-weird wildly awkward to delimit the application’s features in this manner - is there an easy way to workaround this via a PREFs TEXT File? TIA
Script UIs are taller in Beta Build 26.3.0.045 - either the font or gaps are bigger - should be easy to test on your end by opening up the same script in V25 and V26. I’m here if you have Qs.TIA
Quick Apply was released in After Effects 26.2. Ongoing improvements will be posted here as they are made available in the Beta builds.Hi all!We are very excited to unveil Quick Apply in After Effects (Beta) 26.2.0.30 or higher. Quick Apply is a search box that puts every effect, animation preset, and menu command right at your fingertips. Type a few characters, pick what you want, and apply or run it. It’s that simple.Effects — Search by name or category and apply to the selected layer, or create a new Solid or Adjustment layer with the effect already applied. Animation Presets — Search and apply text presets and other animation presets to the selected layer, or to a new layer or adjustment layer. Menu Commands — Search and run any top-level menu command, including access to blending modes, installed scripts, and preferences.Showing result for “glow” in Quick ApplyTo open the Quick Apply dialogEdit menu > Quick Apply Ctrl+Enter (Windows) / Cmd+Return (macOS) — the shortcut can also
Since we introduced Variable Font Animation in After Effects, a lot of you have been exploring weight, width, slant, and custom axes in the Timeline and Properties panel. One thing we heard clearly is that it’s still hard to spot which fonts in the menu are actually variable when you have a huge library.Today we’re shipping an update that adds a variable font filter right in the font popup, so you can narrow the list to variable fonts only and get to the right face faster. What it doesThe font popup now includes a filter control that, when enabled, shows only variable fonts. Turn it off anytime to return to the full list (same as your other filters and favorites behavior). Where to find itOpen the font control anywhere you already choose a typeface (for example, the Properties panel or Character panel font picker—the same font popup you use today). Use the new variable font filter so the list shows only fonts that expose variable axes. Choose your font as usual; disable the filter when
Can't double click and go into a precomp (if it marked as Vector "*")When I double-click a precomposition marked as vector, nothing happens. If I unmark the vector, everything works normally.
On MacOS, After Effects Beta 25.5, After Effects 25.4, After Effects 25.3, 25.1 this issue seeems universal on my device. Downgrading to AE 24 or AE 25.0 seems to fix this problem. All settings are default. All plugins uninstalled. Shutter speed is 180 and -90. So this is not the issue at hand.No matter what I try, when in a composition, on any image file format (gif, jpeg, png, webp), after a keyframe is put down with motion blur, the motion blur persists and remains a constant. When clearing the cache, the issue goes away. The video renders without this motion blur error, so the error is unique to preview/cache.
What WMIC.exe WasWMIC (Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line) was a system utility that allowed programs to query Windows system information like hardware details, running processes, and system configuration. After Effects was using it to gather system information.
I have a project which crashes AE every time I use the rotobrush, without exception. Steps to reproduce:Open the project I’ve previously created a rotobrush shot on (using v.4.0 of the Object Matte effect).Open the comp, double-click the layer.Click Freeze to unfreeze...or don’t - it makes no difference whether it’s frozen or not.Using either the Quick Selection Tool or Selection Brush Tool, draw a stroke - anywhere, it does not matter. Interestingly, the Object Matte tool does not crash AE, but it does not create the effect I want - it selects too much, so I need to use one of the brush tools. Result:AE crashes, with message:After Effects (Beta) error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in “Roto Brush & Refine Edge”. Expected:No crash. For some reason, it only seems to work well on the very first frame. smooth edge and well defined nooks and crannies. I advance one frame and it becomes all blocky and loses all of the edges it just had, without anything moving in the frame.
I’ve just updated AE Beta to 26.3.0x16, and noticed that the highlighting of moused-over items in the main menus is so pale that it’s almost non-existent. Here, I’ve moused-over “Preview”, not that you can really tell: Here’s a nice, clear menu in Photoshop: What’s going on with AE’s menus? Interestingly, Illustrator suffers from the same rubbish pale-menu problem too:
26.3.0 (Build 10)Instant crash when dropping any item onto the “Make a new folder” icon at the bottom of the Project window.

Hello Adobe After Effects Team,I would like to report a bug in After Effects where Slider Control values read from a null object cannot be used to scale the 'time' variable in Time Remap expressions when using the Legacy ExtendScript engine.---ENVIRONMENT- After Effects version: 26.3- OS: Mac- Expressions engine: Legacy ExtendScript---STEPS TO REPRODUCE1. Create a new composition2. Add a Null object, name it "Controller"3. Add a Slider Control effect to the null, name it "Speed"4. Set the Speed slider to 25. Add any footage layer to the comp6. Enable Time Remapping on the footage layer (right-click → Time → Enable Time Remapping)7. Apply the following expression to the Time Remap property:speed = thisComp.layer("Controller").effect("Speed")("Slider");time * speed8. Scrub the Speed slider between 1 and 10 and observe the Time Remap value in the timeline panel---EXPECTED BEHAVIORThe Time Remap value should scale proportionally with the Speed slider. Setting Speed to 2 should produce a Ti
Today we’re introducing three significant updates to our vector workflows in After Effects beta version 26.0x8: You can now import SVG files as native AE shape layers. Logos, UI mockups, and other vector assets are ready to animate – no conversion required. Improved Illustrator Layer Conversion: Illustrator layers now retain gradient fills, gradient strokes, and transparency when converted to native shape layers. New Gradient Controls: We’ve added animatable Scale and Rotation properties for gradient fills and strokes, giving you more control over vector styling and animation. SVG Import Client sends you a dozen SVG logos to use in a project? What once required a tedious, multi-app process is now fast and easy: SVGs import as compositions of ready-to-use native shape layers, no conversion required. Gradient fills, strokes, and transparency are preserved and fully editable. There are a few limitations of SVG import: Because SVGs import directly as
