Photoshop 26.1

Windows 19045.3324

Step 1: Open a test image

Step 2: Make a small selection with the polyganal lasso tool.

Step 3: Click Generative Fill, then click Generate

Expected result: The mask for the resulting Generative Fill layer should match the original selection

Actual result: The mask for the resulting Generative Fill layer expands to be larger than the original selection in an octagon shape with feathered edges.

The recent Generative Fill update completely broke partial selections via Quick Mask! It ignores opacity, generates random garbage, and has left me totally stuck in the middle of critical projects. You ruined a vital workflow—fix this disaster ASAP!

Hi @Nimitz TV

Thanks for flagging this. I understand how disruptive that can be, especially when it affects an important workflow.

To help us investigate this issue, could you please share a few more details?

  • Your system info from Photoshop (Help > System Info > Copy and paste it here)
  • Does this happen with all files or only specific documents?
  • If possible, a short screen recording or screenshots showing the behavior before and after.

These details will help us better understand what’s going wrong and work toward a solution.

Thanks, Srishti Bali | Community & Engagement Strategist, Digital Imaging | Adobe

I am also using Lightroom 26.1 and the Generative Remove is showing similar problems.  In the example below, I selected the girl and it expanded to include the road.  In the second example, I selected a dot on the screen (under the square) and it also expanded to include the road.  This is causing me much additional work to Subtract the expandeed regions for every item I want to remove.

I should note that these examples are at 200x zoom and that I get similar but different behavior at other zoom levels and brush sizes.

I have always been impressed with the generative AI in photoshop, but this week I have been working in photoshop and noticed that everytime I make a selection (lasso tool or such) and ask it to generate, the image it generates ends up not fitting the space anymore, and instead ends up much larger and cut off. I am using a mac and am updated the latest updates with both mac and adobe photoshop. This is becoming a huge issue in my design process. Example is attached. I lassoed the area as I usually would and asked it create a straw and icecubes. This is what it renders out, and it does the same every time.

Can someone please help?

I'm on 26.11 and this behavior is still ongoing and absolutely a problem.

@Peaceful_curiosity9206 confirm the app version installed:

  • PC: Open Photoshop > Help > About Photoshop
  • Mac: Open Photoshop > Photoshop > About Photoshop

If it's 26.0 or before, try restarting your computer.

If that doesn't work, try installing the latest version of v25.

Note that you can have multiple versions of Photoshop installed so make sure you open the one you intend to use/test. Optionally you can uninstall the version you don't want.

I'm having the same issue and came across this thread. I am trying to remove thin powerlines and my selection is expaned by a huge factor. This is a huge problem because not just the powerlines are remove, but also a big part of the image gets faked.

It's shocking that this has been reported in 2024 already and there is still no fix. Maybe we all should pause our subscription until it's fixed.

I am using version 26.8.1

@Kindhearted_Gleam9686

Sorry, the quoting system on this platform is terrible and I pasted the wrong user name.
I agree, Generative Fill is important for retouching, too, and should respect selection borders better.

Hi @Sameer K. It's been 7 months. What's the status? When will Adobe address this issue?
