Captivate

I'm struggling with an issue with Captivate 5 (just starting to use it, actually still a trial version but purchasing full in a couple of weeks) that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have a 32 slide presentation with audio (imported per slide), and with some animation and highlight boxes on some slides. The animations and highlight boxes are timed with the audio. When I preview it or publish it as a pdf, I notice that it does not automatically play the slides. The audio begins automatically, but you have to push the play button to get the highlight boxes/animation timing to start. So if you push the play button 5 seconds after the audio starts on a slide, then the highlight boxes and animations won't match up (they would be 5 seconds behind). Also, the slides won't auto advance until you push the play button (and the timing on the slide runs to the end).I figured it was something in terms of not having it autoplay, but I have it set on autoplay. I was working on my project this morning and it started locking the boxes (smart shapes) so I cannot change size, language or anything.  Earlier today I was making state view boxes with no issues.  I am trying to figure out how to get this fixed because I like using the state views for my responsive projects.  It signed me out as well without warning.  I am not sure what is going on but for weeks this was working fine.

Hi all,When i start a screen recording in Captivate 8 for a Software Simulation or Video Demo on my MAC OSX 10.9.4 , I cannot end the video using the cmd+enter method.  I have to force quit to end the program.  Anyone have any solutions to this issue?Thanks,

Hi there. I have custom navigation (for many reasons) and an issue with the pause button. It's a toggle button that checks if cpCmndPause != 1, and pauses the slide with a javascript containing cpCmndPause = 1; and continues using cpCmndResume = 1;. There is slide audio on many of the slides and some will also have audio triggered by buttons or connected to objects that are show/hidden. This works fine, unless the playhead is at the end of the slide. the cpCmndResume = 1; then pushes the playhead along over to the next slide. I don't expect users to click the pause-button like maniacs, but this is a frame work for many course modules, and I'd like it to be robust. I was thinking of finding the end frame of the slide when pausing, and have the button not do anything, in stead of resuming, if the playhead is at the end frame. But I'm unable to figure out how to find the end frame of a slide 😞 Can anyone think of a good workaround or alternative way of pausing?

From my manage account page, it doesn't appear there are any 'devices activated', and there are no links to download and it doesn't appear in my creative cloud app...where do I download it? 

In Captivate 2019, the option to show borders in the skin editor is not available. It was working fine before. Anyone got any ideas why this could be please?

Does anyone know how to query my captivate 2017 file to ascertain certain system and/or user values of variables?  For instance, I'd like to determine the cpInfoCurrentFrame of a certain frame in my course.  Is it measured from the beginning of the course or the beginning of the slide?I used to be able to use Put and Trace commands in Director/Flash to get a variable's value.  I could attach this as a script in a certain frame, but in Captivate I guess I need to click a button to which an action would reveal the variable, but where can I view it?  Create a text field to store it in? Are there any such ways to determine both system and user variables?Thanks to all in advance, much appreciated!

I'm trying to have the mouse point to 2 items on a slide - but having difficulty doing that.  Is it possible, or do I need to have the second action on the next slide?

I have a zip file for a course someone else made for us. I was told it was made with Captivate. They sent over the zip file. I am unable to import the zip file into Captivate. I'm not sure if maybe it's actually not Captivate files, or if I'm not doing something correctly. I was asked to translate the content into Spanish, so I am trying to figure out what this course was created with. 

Hello I am using the built-in certificate widget in my Captivate project. I have read in several posts that the project name should be automatically generated by the system variable cpInfoCourseName, which is linked to File>Project Info. I have entered the project name in the project name field but it still isn't displaying on the certificate. I have published and uploaded the project to our LMS. The name field and date field are populating but the course name, course duration, and authorizing signature are blank. I have entered a signature in the certificate widget, and it appears on the preview but not when it's published.  What am I missing? I am using Adove Captivate 2019

Hello. I am looking to have users review the previous slides if they answer a quiz question incorrectly, then retake the question. I want them to do this for each question as they progress through the project. I know I can create a "retake course" button on the results page, but I want remediation for each question as they go through the questions. Is this possible?

Hello! I have a project where I am trying to do a motion, exit, collapse to left. It is going too far to the left and the show motion path is greyed out. I can not figure out why and how to fix it...

I repaired a non-working Captivate quiz file and wanted to replace the file. The Scorm Export works absolutley fine. When Exchanging the needed files on our content Server of our LMS, it shows the following error: When creating a new Learning Item in our LMS, the content works absolutley fine. Hi everyone!Below is a link to some instructions I made that show you how to vertically align your blank (non-responsive) and non-scalable Captivate 8/9 project in the browser window. I always despised the look of the forced top alignment for Captivate projects. It looks horrid in larger resolution settings - and makes the window look very imbalanced - drawing attention to the unused space beneath. I also don't like the look of scaling - since this degrades imagery and text quality in many cases - so this was a problem. I did address this in answer to an older forum question - but for the life of me I cannot find that string anymore. Otherwise I would have posted it there. Never-the-less - maybe a fresh post is best.NOTE:This works for me in nearly all my projects. I have encountered rare instances where the alignment does not work properly however - and no amount of investigating the WHY of it ever helped me figure it out. At the end of a course, we carry out a test of 10 random questions, chosen from 14 possible ones. This is how we have set it up: creating a collection of 14 questions and inserting 10 random question slides relative to this pool. When running the project, when the questions are answered and Submit button is pressed, there is a 3-4 second delay before displaying the next question, which is frustrating. We've done a test with 10 linear non-random questions and this delay does not occur. Can the delay be removed?

Hello, could you help please?I'm not able to upload a .zip file created in Adobe Captivate 2019 and published to computer as HTML/SWF.It says File type could not be added. Please read about static and interactive file types before uploading.I did read it, but didn't find anything that would help.To avoid any troubles in the project, I created a new empty project and just published.Still doesn't work.Don't you have any idea or recommendation?Thanks,Martina

When I launch a course from our LMS (Infor) in Chrome, I get a gray page and the error of  www.adobe.com refused to connect. I do not get this error when launching in IE. Can anyone explain what this error is telling me? What is going wrong in Chrome? What are the steps to fix it? I can't have the solution always be "just do it in IE". The course has been published in HTML, it passes the HTML tracker. So why won't it open in Chrome? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 

I hope you're day is going well Adobe experts. I have created a captivate file using Captivate 5 and the software crashed and lost a days work (twice today).  I know I should have been saving all along but I wasn't aware that there is no autosave (or is there? haven't been able to find that option).  I found files in the Adobe Captivate Cashed Projects folder with the file extension .cpd in the uncompressed files folder. Also found audio.cpad, info.cpi, and text.cptd files in the Cashed Project folder.  Are these the files I was working on and is there any way of restoring these types of file or using this information to retrieve my captivate?  Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm desperate to get this work back.Also if you have any help or information as to why the software keeps crashing today to prevent it from happening again that would really be great!Thanks!

Can I use Captivate 2019 on my iPad Pro?

I downloaded and installed the Trial for Captivate 2019 in my Win 11 machine. I did this after checking with a tech support rep who assured me it would work in the W11 environment.  After install I tried opening it and it would not go past the green window with the logo before crashing.  Event viewer pointed at msvcr110.dll as the issue so we tried the following:Uninstall and Re-install CaptivateRemove any Visual C++ Distributable older than 2012Remove and reinstall Visual C++ Distributable 2012sfc /scannowdism /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealthdism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealthchkdsk /f /r /xContacted MS and they said the issue is with Adobe and suggested that if nothing works, I can do a system reset. I have a buton that toggles an image to be shown or hidden. It works fine on the slide that it is set up on. However, for all the other slides, that image shows up behind other elements rather than in front of everything.Is there a way I can set this up for do I have to manually make this button and image set up on every slide?

We are looking for help from Adobe to build calls that will allow us to use API calls from Captivate to communicate and get information from Conerstone (our LMS) that we could use in the courses such as the learner start date.  We understand that this capability is currently not available in Captivate.  We are looking to build an add on.  Can someone contact me regarding if this is possible and we can find out the pricing estimate?Thanks!

I am looking to get some assitance from Adobe to determine if and how we can use API calls from within Captivate to access information from our Cornerstone LMS and feed the information into a course so that we can use it to determine things like the learner's start date so we can know automatically whether or not to show a pretest or not.

In Caotivate 2019 rel 11.5.1.499 I opened two different projects. I updated backgrounds in the one project and saved each file separately. The updates to the one project has updated the other. I have not experienced this before but in this case it does suit me. please advise 

Hi folks. I have a project that has several hyperlinks (set to open New tabs) to Sharepoint pages on our intranet. When I test them either with prevewing using HTML In Broswer or the in-built preview in Caprivate (2019) this works fine but once I publish the project in SCORM1.2 when a user clicks on the hyperlink it closes the eLearning and opens up the hyperlink.  Any ideas what could be happening? Thanks.
