It's Tuesday, which means another live cartoon show from the Digital Puppet studio. In previous episodes we have interviewed CH Dave Werner, Frederator and soon we are interviewing Aardman and talking to Dan Ramirez about the latest updates to Character Animator but tonight, hosts Scott and Ant, will be interviewing a fellow Adobe Character Animator operated presenter who goes by the name Mr Brown and who hosts the Youtube channels Sketchflix, Setsumei and Kaijukojo, where he entertains, informs and educates his fans. As always our show begins at 9pm UK time, and if you follow this link www.youtube.com/digitalpuppets/live you will be able to watch the show when it goes live and it will give you a countdown to start in your local time zone.Tonight we will also be discussing YOUTUBE Live Verses FACEBOOK LIVE. Which is better for your live cartoon show?As always, if you have any questions for our guest or for ourselves, please feel free to post the question below, for us to answer later,
I have a character wearing a ghost costume (sheet with eye holes), and I've triggered the puppet to do an arm/body cycle so that every time the character lifts one or both of their arms, the ghost sheet is lifted, revealing the character's shoes and part of their legs.I would like to make him walk, not left or right, but forward, as though toward a camera tracking backward. Visually, I imagine that the shoes might peek under the ghost sheet as he takes steps, and be fully visible if one of the arm cycles is triggered (lifting the sheet). Now, I'm sure that I could make additional layer cycles that could accomplish this... I think. Is there any easier way or combination of ways to accomplish this look of forward walking, as each leg moves toward away from the camera? What are my options? Thanks.
I'm using the 'Cntl E' keyboard method, but also tried through the App Menu to open the character in Photoshop .... but I'm getting this message:
I know that CA only offers the 14 mouth shapes. And I know Opt+clicking the shape in the timeline provides the full list and some suggestions for alternates—D is a good substitute for n, th and g, for example. Is there a more complete list of suggested alternates somewhere? For example, what would be the best alt for a k or hard c? I'm trying to improve the sync on my character, but I'm not always certain the best choice. But, man, is this toy fun,Martin
I get this error when I try to drag scenes from CH to AE. I was using the beta when I got this message so I downloaded the new CH2018 but I still get the same error. I have tried to create new files/scenes, same issue. Does anyone know a fix? Thanks.
Hi there,I have a Windows 10 x64 PC (workstation, kind of), that I use mainly for After Effects, Audition, Premiere Pro, and some Photoshop and Illustrator. I was very excited to see Character Animator out of beta for this latest update and installed it to give it a spin.I watched some "what's new" and tutorial videos and look forward to creating some masterpieces with this. However, the application is very unstable on my computer. It crashes in the following scenarios that I have ran into so far.1. If I try to create a new puppet from the start screen. It seems not to matter which of the templates (blank face, Chloe, ...) I choose. If I choose a Photoshop version, it always crashes. If I choose an Illustrator version, AND Illustrator is already open when I do, Character Animator survives. However, if I save any changes to the puppet and return to Character Animator, it crashes immediately.2. If instead of selecting a template I just go to Puppet -> New Empty Puppet, I am taken into
Hi there, I'm regularly getting 5.5 fps on projects that are set to 24 fps.It makes checking various movements very tough, as many, particular 'cycle with layers' come across as either glitching or not being active.I'm on a new Surface Pro with nothing else running.Any tips for helping me increase the frames per second would be hugely appreciated. I'm currently working with a puppet that was created in Illustrator and has quite a lot of anchor points. I'm not sure if this makes a difference. Many thanks, Rob
Could I export characters after working with them in Character animator to finish the project in apple motion 5?
I am really eager to update from Beta to v.1, but I simply can't find the new app. I have tried logging out and back into the Adobe Cloud app, I've clicked on 'Check for App Updates" and I've scrolled through the whole list of apps, as I understand v.1 is not an update of the Beta and should be listed separately. It's simply not there. Does the Cloud app look at my system and exclude applications that won't run on my OS? If so, what are the system requirements for CA v.1? I am on a PowerMac currently running OS 10.10.5.Martin
So I can guarantee this is a dumb question but I literally started using Animator yesterday so I could really use some help lol. I'm creating a scene where around 8 characters will be involved, they're all animated now and I'm trying to put them in the scene. When I drag them into the scene, they're all overlapped over each other and it would make sense that I should be able to drag them apart or something but I can't figure out how? Is there some kind of transform button? Also - I did plan on animating them all on this program but would it be easier to animate them all separately and then put it all together in After Effects? Thanks!
I would like to hold on the last frame of a trigger group (now called a swap set) while the key trigger is pressed and then play in reverse when released. I can't see any way of doing that in the new Trigger panel. Any ideas would be appreciated!
Hi annimatorsIs it possible to record a scene with starting no wind and then more wind.Because now, i can not keyframe the wind. Thanks
Hi AllI came from Denmark and would know:1: Where in the Character Animator can I change the program to show the program in Danish.2: And Lips Sync works fine to English, what about danish?Bo Copenhagen Deanmark
If Character Animator CC (Beta) is crashing on your macOS 10.13 machine when importing or using Illustrator artwork, please update to the latest version of Character Animator CC, which is no longer in Beta. Install the latest version named "Character Animator CC" from the Creative Cloud application. It will not be offered as an automatic update for the Beta version. If you are still encountering a crash after updating to the latest version, please post a message on our user forums. Thanks.
Just loving the new features of CA 2018!I have to say my favorite new feature is the use of clipping masks and what that can bring to the model. Amazing! So, I downloaded the Stan character from Dave's website (thanks for offering those examples!)I've watched the YouTube video showing off the new features. I'm able to release the mask and reattach it, but I still don't get how the ears work.I've looked at it in Photoshop and don't see anything there.I do see the face behavior added to the ears... but all the numbers within that behavior look pretty normal. What am I missing? How does that reverse effect get created? Many thanks in advance,
I can successfully map trigger keys to get my eyes to wink/blink independently, but if I simply close one eye on camera, either both or neither blink. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?Martin
Hi there. I am so excited about Character Animator! However, I just installed the 2018 version on my IMac - Sierra 10.12.6 and all of the rigging, handles, triggers etc are gone on my puppet file.I am guesssing part of if be because of the improvements in this new version, but my question is: do I need to start my rigging again from scrtch, or did I miss the way to import a file from Beta to the new version properly? Thanks,Natalie
So I am new to Character Animator I was wondering if my character was built facing the screen(facing me) how do I get him to turn and walk down the street? Would I have to make a side view of the character as well as a front view or will the program read it some how?
I just upgraded to the non-beta 1.1 version of Character Animator and whenever I try to open my .puppet file or my illustrator file in Character animator, I get the 'error opening Illustrator file' error.I then tried to open and old project and the same thing happens.I have opened the Illustrator artwork in Illustrator CC 2018 and it opens fine.I'm running Windows 7 Pro on a Dell Latitude E7470.Thanks
Hi. I have an older puppet that I created in illustrator. I decided to revisit this puppet for a project I am working on.I noticed that beside my lip sync in the record view...I now see a message in brackets (obsolete)Is there a way to fix my puppet?Anyone else with this?
I can't seem to get my puppet to produce the surprised mouth expression no matter how extreme I perform it. I easily get it to make a neutral expression, a smile and all of the phonemes, but no surprised. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Martin
In this tutorial we explain how to import a video feed to Adobe Character Animator. Now you will be able to take videos and use them instead of the live camera OR remotely control a digital puppet on another computer. So, if you have a customer who you have made a puppet for, you can host the puppet for them on your system if they want to do a live event. There are lots of great potentials for using this technique. This tutorial has been bought to you by www.digitalpuppets.co.ukEvery Tuesday at 9pm UK time, Scott and Antony from the Digital Puppets cartoon studio, are live as real time animations, where they do interviews with other animators and professionals in the animation industry, as well as sharing more tips and discussing cartoon news. The show now also features on Facebook at Digital Puppets - Home | Facebook at the same time. Subscribe or like to keep updated
I am sending you this message as i have the following problem with the 'character animator'. When i open ' character animator ' and try to import files in, the programme kicks me out. In addition, when trying to double click on a scene that it is already in the programme, it does the same thing.
My friend and I have spent the last year working on a UK based actual Simpsons/South Park/Rick & Morty type cartoon. We're finally releasing it too! Animation all done on Character Animator and moved to After Effects. This app is amazing. Here's a link to our trailer if you wanna see it:WE MADE A CARTOON! Hi everyoneIm working on Head Turns for my Puppet and have some problems doing that. Everything is tagged correctly but somehow the Right Quarter view is defined as the Rest Pose so that I have to turn my head to the left to actually see the Front view. Can I adjust that somehow?Thank you in advance
