Walk cycles are awesome... until they aren't. A big problem I often have is that when they don't more or less work out of the box, I can't figure out why or how to fix them. My goal is to have a four legged creature that crawls. I've seen Dave's awesome demo about how to do this by using additional walk behaviors and I understand it in principle. Here is my character. I want to use two sets of arms, one in the front, one in the back. I set up the two arms on the back legs and a neck right above the legs. I could also use legs, but arms have more control over angle, so I'm starting there. Even when I set up only the back legs/arms, things are already looking crazy. The neck, and arms all get pulled up waaay higher than the rest of my model. I don't expect things to stray too far from the markers I pick. Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong? Here is a link to my model. Does anyone have any ideas? FourLegs.zip - Google Drive https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwMWJzcF_bmkQWpmT3U1WU1HdTg
I'm trying to create a dancing character by duplicating dragger handle movements for repeated actions (choreography). The problem is that because you can't move a recorded behavior "clip" (as one might do in Premiere, for instance), as I add more movements and duplicate them, there ends up being a ton of "tracks" making it really difficult to find the clip(s) to duplicate and/or move. Is there a way to make it easier to organize recorded behaviors (if not, I assume it's in the works)? Or maybe there's a more efficient way to make a dancing character?
I have a standard illustrator file with head turns and a body. I import to character animator, pin the feet, and go to Record. When I move my head on camera, the feet sway. What am I doing wrong?
I can't get this Mom character to move from her origin point...her legs move up when I move my head from side to side. After copying exact layer structure from an Adobe-downloaded character, I am still scratching my head about this. Any help would be most appreciated.
Is there anyway to import an audio file into Character Animator and have it carry over any markers that may have been placed in either Audition or Premiere Pro?
Hello,I've had this scene built for some time and have not had this problem for a while so I don't know what is going on. I made an update to my PDF and when it synced, the background and everything started tilting left and right with my head. Not sure what I did to make this happen. I've checked all I can and now just don't know what is going on. Any advice? Thanks
Hello!I am trying to troubleshoot an issue with the blink effect on my puppet. My puppet is simple with only one forward facing direction, but I have several different emotions that are triggered by key presses. Each emotion has a different mouth set and eye set to go with them, but for some reason the blinks don't work for the alternate eye sets (regular set works fine). I've made sure to tag each of the blinks and alternate eyes in the rigging tag panel. Below is a photo of the grouping structure. Can anyone tell me what could be going wrong with this? Thanks in advance!
My Adobe Character Animator works perfectly with imported psd files. I can't import an illustrator file though. Once I import the file, any ai file for that matter; Character Animator crashes. I saw this problem two weeks ago, that one hasn't been fixed yet unfortunately.Beta 6 (x161)
Specifically, I may want to add a few seconds into a pause for a character, or I may want to reduce a pause. This could be for comic timing, or it could be wanting to slip and slide one character to fit their actions and audio with another character in the scene.I see how how move the timelines earlier or later, but not how to add time in the middle of a sequence. This is necessary for getting the best timing of multiple characters. Is there a way to do it?
If I want a character walking, he stops, looks around, then runs or creeps forward, can I do that in one shot? I guess I could do multiple recordings, but can you set a trigger to jump between various styles of walking during a record?
Hello, I have recently installed Character Animator. When I opened it (I could open a project) nothing could be clicked. It would immediately say "not responding" and the blue spinning wheel would pop up.I tried to install an older version and the same thing happened....am I missing something? After Effects/Premiere work perfectly. I literally can't click on anything. 😕😕Thoughts?
So I have been trying to create my husband's character for a while and Im just so confused on some things. Here are some of the problems Im facing. The head likes to float away from the neck. I tried stapling it but the neck is in the body folder so it isnt wanting to. Same with the hair. I have her hair in a layer at the very end so it wont get it the way of her body, clothes, etc. Another problem Im having, is they tell you the put the arms and hands in front so when you move them they wont always be behind your character. The only problem is if I make her arms on the top layer above the torso etc it will cover her chest. This is my first character and my third day running this software so bare with me. Me moving my head to the left: (Head doesn't want to attach to neck or hair) If I attach both layers of hair to the head it does this.)Here is the Character tree.
Hello all,Like a streamer on Twitch i need to do some test with my puppet in live and my question is:With the new feature in ChAn "Stream Live" now is more easy to export puppets in others software like OBS but i need a second monitor? Is there a chance to export my puppet in Obs on same monitor when ChAn is running? In the past test i used this solution for export puppet in OBS (see> attached link) <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AEDJTrRNxA> but now it seems not work anymore.Thanks.
Hi all, Apologies if this has already been asked on the site - I've taken a look but can't seem to find it.I've got about 24 hands (12 left and 12 right) for a character that I'm making.I'd love to be able to trigger these hands with a Midi device (currently I'm using a Launchpad by Novation for MIDI triggering within music programs). If there is any advice or experience on how to do this, that would be great. I read that Bome Midi Translator is a possibility, but don't know where to start with this information.I'd love to know how people are expanding beyond using only the typepad - or if there is a way of extending beyond the letters of the type pad (perhaps using SHIFT or CAPLOCKS).I understand that the new update will contain more midi configuration so this question may indeed be void within a few weeks. Many thanks, Rob
Hello! Sorry for the noob tech question, but I'm stumped.I'm trying to figure out how to stream my puppet and all the tutorials say "No extra Character Animator configuration is necessary" or "Just goto File>Export>Live to Syphon". Well, that option is not there for me. Now what? I only get an "live options" in the file>export dropdown and it just takes me to a web page telling me how easy it is. (Adobe Character Animator Help | Export )Please help, what am I missing here? I hate getting stuck on Step 1!Thanks!MindyMac Laptop, OS Sierra 10.12.6 and CA Beta 6.attached image was taken from tutorial showing option that isn't there for me.
I have a library of art and characters drawn in Flash and Animate CC. Does anyone know how to transfer this art, if possible, to Character Animate? It seems logical to transfer it over but I couldn't figure out how to get this art into a CC library. Thank you.
Everytime I update my Illustrator files (the same way I did in beta 5) CH now errors out completely."Internal error code: (1033274218:1293+1)attempt to index a nil value"I have found that opening and closing multiple times will bring the project back, but all data created in CH will be erased. I have now fixed my complicated puppet 3 times and took hours of work to redo each time. I have been working on this puppet for months so I'm really not happy about this.I'm a super fan of CH and have made some very impressively complex characters, but all the issues have forced me to consider giving up. I can't trust it at this point in its current state. I'm beyond frustrated with all the issues. It also seems like the only software that my pc can't handle. Every process takes forever (sometimes 15 mins) and my pc should be very capable. i7 quadcore 3.5ghz, 16 gb ramPlease understand that I'm hoping to continue working with CH, but CH doesn't seem to want to work for me. Please help.

I have a feeling that I may have messed up the Character Animator file system. I built a puppet in Illustrator and did a whole video with it, but ever since I reorganized my Mac, all of my CA files including samples (Freda) do not work. The image below is what I see. It even happens with the old scenes I had previously created.Just to prove that this did work before, here is a demo video I shot for my marketing team (just funny, not super professional): Bohemian Rhapsody - Adobe Character Animator on Vimeo
I'm having trouble getting the face for this character to attach to the body. This just happened when I added the walk behavior. It's a different setup so the "head" is really the body itself. I've tried turning "warp independently" on and off, adding anchor points, etc. It may be in my layer structure, but I'm just not finding the right options. Any help would be great!!Puppet file: Steve-template.puppet - Google Drive
When I press A for Angry Eyebrow, the normal eyebrow is still there. What step did I leave out?
Hey guys,I have my character rigged so that the arms usually bend inwards. However, sometimes I need them to bend outwards to do certain gestures so I rigged a replacement arm (when I press 'g') to do this. See the second half of this video for how weird it looks when I accidentally do a gesture which causes the elbow to go inwards. Is there a way I can control how much movement the elbow has? I've tried adding a dangle point and setting gravity to go to the left etc, but the elbow still keeps going the wrong way meaning I need to start again! Dropbox - Ch gesture q.mp4
I tried to move some visemes in the timeline to tweak my lip sync. They won't move and I can't swap them out for other mouths.
Hey all, I run a small youtube channel where I use Character Animator to create an animated character as a facecam for let's plays, everything has been going smoothly and people seem to love the animation. My question is about rendering times, over the last few months I've been able to optimize my workflow by decreasing the scene size (from 1920x1080 to 854x480) and by exporting at lower bitrates. Since the facecam takes up so little of the screen I don't need it to be very detailed. However exporting is still my most rate limiting step. A 15 minute scene can take over two hours to render and at two videos a day this is extremely time consuming. Are there any other tips or tricks from the community to get exporting to move a little faster? If there is any additional information you need to help out, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks for your time!
