Learn how to create, build, and animate 2D puppets.

I made a character in illustrator and used the 3d rotate effect to create a simple head turn as the left and right quarter. When I import the character into character animator it is just like the frontal view. I switched off the frontal view layer and the left/right quarter views are the same as the frontal one. Is there something I need to apply in illustrator for it to keep its shape or is it an issue with Character Animator.
I'm working on walk cycles for my puppet (a left and a right cycle) and discovered that one cycle worked while the other did not. After doing a little evaluation I discovered that if I added a "dangle"... the puppet simply did not walk. Also, if I labeled my profile head as a profile (which was the only way I could get my eye to work), the puppet would only hop (not walk). Are there any work arounds for these issues? Thanks much!
I'm trying to build a more complex puppet and am wondering how complex should one get? My Photoshop file has so many layers and am worried it will be too difficult to puppet. Just how complex can the puppet be?
I am working on my second puppet and may have bitten off more than I can chew. I am attempting to create head turns but for some reason only the top-most head's eyes work. The mouths work on all the views. Am I missing something? I've checked several times and they are all tagged and labeled correctly. Please help.
Ok so I have an airplane and it doesn't have eyes, rather the wipers offer a blink feature only. I can't get the cycle layers to occur on both wipers at the same time. I get one wiper going and then nothing happens with the other one. I've tried to check and uncheck the hide others box. And I've watched OK Samurai's cycle layers episode about a 100 times; he will likely cover his mortgage this month on my views alone in Adsense revenue. You're welcome lol.
IS it possible to control 2 arms at once with the Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16?It has multitouch but I am not 100% sure if it is the right kind.Just seeing if i should buy one for my workflow Thanks!
Hi,I love the power of character animator for speech, basic facial expressions and the life that comes from minor shifts in posture. But since I like other movements to be more fancy-shmancy, I have actual animation sequences that I trigger with the keyboard. In this way I have a more natural nod, head shake, or the pulling up of a book. Now, since the nod or head shake are non verbal I can do a simple cycle layer effect. However it is more challenging to integrate the layer cycle of the example below (character pulling up a book). For the facial features need to appear in a new position (see the onion skin showing start and end position). Currently I have the body, and new face (mouth in the new position) triggered with the same keyboard command. However since the body and head change to the new position in the course of 12 frames, the facial features naturally appear immediately when triggered and not 12 frames later when the final position is reached. So for 12 frames the face is off
I wanted to make some interactive content with my Character Animator project but can't seem to figure out how to get this content into Muse.[Here is the list of all Adobe forums... https://forums.adobe.com/welcome][Moved from Comments forum to specific Program forum... Mod]
Preparing Scene mode always causes CH to become non-responsive ("not responding") for extended periods of time. I'm assuming this is because of rendering, but it doesn't seem that the software isnt maxing out on cpu or ram. Is this normal?
I made a new Prop and I think i know why my arm doesn't move right anymore. I'm pretty sure it's because the prop overlaps the joint a bit... See attached video for examples. Thanks!
HiA suggestion. It's hard to hit the record button and then quickly get to either doing your camera -- or especially any trigger or dragging the mouse when a specific action needs to be at the beginning of the track.Camtasia has a countdown before the recording starts. It would be helpful for Character animator to have a similar short countdown. 3 seconds should do it.ThanksRowby
I started a project on my Windows PC and did the character in Photoshop after which I imported the psd into Character Animator. I could see the character properly then. I save all my files in my Creative Cloud Files folder. Then today I opened up my macbook and opened the creative cloud files folder and opened up the Character Animator project and what I see are those color bars instead of my actual image. As you can see above in the image attached the psd file ( thats linked into Character Animator ) shows the image correctly on the mac. Thanks!
Okay so I'm trying to edit the visemes for my lipsyncing. Since my Character is speaking Norwegian the auto detect isn't perfect. In this one instance i have a long Uh viseme but during that time the character is acutally making three sounds, Uh then Ah then E.I Know i cant delete a viseme, but is it posible to split one so i can add the Ah and E at the right time?
Hi, I'm fairly new to character animate. I created a character in photoshop, and have been really careful with all the layers and groups created so Ch can support it. However, when I try placing the photoshop file with a character in it into a scene, this error keeps popping up. If i open up the photoshop file as a puppet it opens fine in Ch. Please do let me know whats going on!!
Hey guys. I'm trying to record a walk behavior and I really love it how it works. But one thing keeps me from animating:When I record my puppet running from the left side of the screen to the right side and play it back it looks okay. But when I play it back another time, the character will run further from the point he ended up the first time. He runs out of the screen. Dragging with the playhead will only make things worse. It all sounds very logic to me: Character Animator calculates when the right arrow key is pressed and when not, and then calculates the character running from the point where he is. When I play my performance and pause it half way, the character will still be running because the right arrow key is still calculated as pressed at the point where I stopped. Is there a way to fix this? Is this a problem that more people have?Chris
HiWhere possible and logical, the icon on the puppet should match the icon in the panelExample: When you use the staple tag, then the staple icon should appear visually as the staple icon on the puppet. Thanks!Rowby
HelloFor those of us who don't use Character animator on a daily basis (and are not familiar with with stage. film and cartoon directors' traditional use of "Right" and "Left" as it applies to directing actors), I suggest that a more visual prompt be shown on the rigging panel. Please see this link for my example: http://plusrowby.com/right-left.pngAlso is it possible for the administrator of this forum to allow upload of attachments (such as the above image) to our Character Animator posts, instead of requiring us to upload the image somewhere? (Maybe it's possible but I don't see such a capability on this forum.) Thanks!Rowby
Welche Cam sollte ich für Ch kaufen? Und ist ein Wacom Brett für Ch wichtig?
I'm trying to get my puppet to follow my mouth or through microphone input. Currently, it says on 'normal', and when I smile big and show my teeth, it shows the 'smile' graphic (occasionally). Other than that, it pretty much doesn't do anything else. I've tried playing with all the settings, which I might be overlooking, but at a point where I'm done trying to fix, and need help.
I'd like to set up a latching keyboard trigger that doesn't turn off when the key is pressed again. So, the only way to leave it would be by triggering a different keyboard trigger.Any thoughts on how to achieve this?
I was trying to figure out how to put together this animation. I would like my puppet to interact with another video that running. If I animate the puppet in Character, then do I put the puppet in after effects and build the video. I haven't worked with after effects, yet. Can I put together the video in premiere and then put it into after effects? Thanks for any help.
Hi.Some tutorial or video for learning how to work with puppet's Eyelids? I tried Blinks in my puppet's structures but I don't know how to work with Eyelids.Thanks.
Hi there. I am building a puppet in Photoshop but I have a few issues-blink is not working-mouth is not working-head is floating off screen when I test it in Character animator. Can anyone help?
I'm just getting started with Character animator, and I'm loving it. I've been able to make a few basic puppets, and I'm starting to get the hang of how it all works together. I'm incredibly thankful for the Okay Samurai tutorials on YouTube for helping me get started. While I can put a puppet together fairly well in Illustrator, my design skills aren't that great. I would really like to use Ch to animate physical puppets (dolls, action figures, etc.) Are there any tutorials out there for best practices for photographing the puppets, separating out the parts of the pictures, and re-assembling them in the correct layers/groups? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
