Camera layers, Lights, Sound, these layers will never have effects applied to them, why would we display an empty effects panel and waste AE screen real-estate, while it could be the perfect place to control the properties for these layers?Think about other properties like shape layers for example and how easy it would be to just control their properties in the effect/properties panel! Here is how that could work: http://www.sandervandijk.tv/after-effects-features/effects#property-controls
Hey all, I'm building MOGRTs more and more, and I often use a ton of expressions as I find it can really help speed up the animation workflow. I'd like to ask for some kind of global object to use in expressions. This would make expressions many times more efficient and lightweight to run. It could be a global function or class, but I think an object would be preferable. An example from a recent project is where there are many moving elements that are adjustable via the EGP (essential graphics panel). Depending on the user inputs in EGP, the layers move differently or at different times. Due to the way AFX expressions work, I had to write a script and then copy and modify it for every single layer, and in that script there was a lot of duplication in the script. When there was an amendment to the script, I had to edit every instance of that script and account for any unique properties of that layer. Imagine then, I have a global object that
I can't draw a mask on an EXR file. (I can, but no effect)Bug or do I something wrong? Or just not featured?
It is not a good UX to have the operation interrupted every time Auto Save is performed.Have Adobe considered background processing for Auto Save?
Enable marking and copying error messages to quickly search for them online. It is a pain in the ass to self write your error messages to google.Maybe you implement a "Search online" Button, next to the "Ok"Button, when the Error window is appearing.THX
(For anyone searching, this may also be called the “File Name and Location Template”.) Currently you can only edit the output destination templates from the Render Queue panel. The Render Settings and Output Modules templates can also be edited from the queue, but also under the Edit menu > Templates. The output destinations should also be added here because many users (most users??) are unaware this exists. Bonus round: the output destinations template editor should have an export/import functionality like Render Settings and Output Modules editors. Double Bonus: All three template editors should be accessible from After Effects Preferences/Settings dialog for increased visibility.
Why isn't the output destination information stored in aep? When working on multiple projects simultaneously, it is necessary to specify the output destination each time, which is very annoying.Either the destination information should be recorded in aep, or the destination should automatically become the current directory.
Hey folks,1. is there any i can lock certain parts of the timeline not messing other parts? when i took render and send it client. based on the render specific parts they give feedback, while working on their feedback its easy to mess up other parts. so i want to isolate a pertical part of the timeline and my changes only saves to that part. how to do this?2. is there anyway i can scrub timeline with holding hotkey, i remebre in autodesk maya you can hold a hotkey then you can move right and left of your window that moves the viewport timeline in there, can we do that in here for preview moniter or timeline? or why not premier pro's "play head moves cursor" opition not here in after effects? any workaround for these?thanks!
I'm happy with OCIO being implemented but there's still a lots of polish needed. Viewers One of which is to separate the view from the display for the viewer and output color settings. It is much cleaner to work with over the flattened list we currently need to deal with. Current: Suggested: The name labels could be shortened to View and Display if the viewer panel is too small and be removed if even smaller. Output Module For the Output Module I'd like to see a dedicated 'display bake option'. The current Show All checkbox lists the display+view spaces all the way at the bottom which is unwieldy and functionally doesn't make sense. Here are two suggested approaches. Option 1: Where the context of the menus change once the Display Output box is ticked. Option 2: An additional section that becomes enabled when Enable is ticked and the above gets greyed out. Thank you for reading.
You propably have people asking you that, but it would be just great to have a Onion Skin function at the Ae, so we could see some of the frames/keyframes before or even after. That could help a lot while doing some animation, effects and I think everything, couse you have a more wide view of what you are doing without needing a pre render
Currently the only way to switch between shape and mask creation is to click the icons in the toolbar. The default actions for these tools are well thought out, however I find myself masking shape layers quite often, which while selected default the pen and shape tools to "creates shape" when I almost always need to create a mask. While an option to change the defaults could work, I think an easier solution would just be an additional hotkey or the option to assign one to those buttons. Is this possible?
Please implement a middle-click mouse button to close comps, like the browser does. It's way faster than having to look for the "x" button. Easy for you, easy for the users 🙂Thanks a lot
Issue - Properties Panel does not show Essential PropertiesPretty straight forward. When I selected a layer which is a comp containing Essential Properties, they do not show up in the new Properties Panel. (It only shows "Layer Transform") Adobe After Effects version number 23.4.0 Operating system MacOS 13.4 (Title edited by moderator)
Lumetri Scopes currently only exclusively show the information of the working color space. In most cases we need to see the information post display transform of the viewer. Please add an option for this in the scopes panel. Ideally a checbox that can be quickly toggled on/off. Example:
I'm curious: when you animate a property (or several) on a layer and press U, it opens all of the animated property values so you can see the keyframes of each. Once you pre-comp a layer (or several), there's no way to see the keyframes of the pre-comp in the main comp without opening that comp (that I know of). Why doesn't pressing U on a pre-comp do the same thing it does for regular layers? Even if there are several layers with animated properties, surely you could still display each animated parameter like : Layer -> Property -> and the keyframe positions on that line. This would be very handy for being able to group (pre-comp) several layers together and then still animate other properties around the animations in the groups without having to bounce back and forth between comps. Does anything like this exist or no?Thanks!
My idea would be to be able to *pin* selected layers to the top of the timeline, much like *pinned* comments or threads or posts get pinned to the top. These wouldn't necessarily be locked in the traditional sense of locking a layer in After Effects (although they could be), but would be "stuck" to the top of the timeline, with any new layers automatically inserted below them. As such, if you created a new Null Layer, it would be generated below the *pinned* layers, as opposed to at the top of the layer stack. This way layers that always need to be on top would remain there no matter what content is added or new layers are generated. Ideally this could be turned on and off at will, like Guide Layers, with the layer that is not *pinned* reverting to regular layer behavior in the layer stack. It could also be interesting if a "floating" window of these *pinned* layers existed that was always visible at top, although with the ability to turn this feature on or off so as to not clutter the
Hi, I'm using 'Adobe After Effects' but the app name (file name) in macOS Launchpad is too long!!!making it difficult to identify the app at a glance.Since the file icons are identical, I often end up launching 'After Effects Render Engine' instead of the actual After Effects app, which is really frustrating and inconvenient.I would appreciate it if you could either remove the 'Adobe' text at the frontor create a separate icon for the Render Engine.
Is there a way to customize or modify After Effects to make it have a white/light interface ? I know that you can go to Preferences > Appearance, and drag the brightness slider up, but that doesn't change it enough, it is still very dark and straining on my vison and hard to use for long periods of time, if anyone knows some mod or config file change that would allow me to this, it would be much appreciated.Otherwise, addressing Adobe:Could you please bring back a light/white interface for After Effects and Premiere Pro, I am a working professional and I have some vision issues and the very dark interface greatly stresses and strains my vision making it impossible for me to work for long periods of time, I know that this isn't a difficult feature to implement given that it was literally the default interface in older versions of after effects, and some versions could go all the way from dark grey to basically white with the brightness slider , the current slider under: Preferences &
Native support for importing Alembic and USD would make it a lot easier to get animated cameras and objects into AE in 3D workflows
in premiere you can take a slow motion clip and speed it up to 350% for instance using "speed". but if i want to take that RAW slow mo clip into After Effects (and make sure it has the same speed as the sped up clip on my premiere timeline) time remapping doesnt let me choose "speed". So I drag around the time remap keyframes but there's no telling whether I dragged it to change the speed to 350%? 400%? 247%?? There's no solid indicator to tell me what speed I've sped it up to. And there's no exact number to dial in to get the same speed as the sped up clip in premiere (without exporting the clip out of premiere with the speed on it). Can you add the "speed" feature to After Effects?
Smart Sharpen in Photoshop proves that motion blur can potentially be at least partially removed, if you know the motion vector and pixel distance of the motion smearing. The timewarp effect already calculates motion vectors, and the shutter angle would then define how many pixels of motion would be expected to already be in the footage. Given these two ideas, you could potentially make it possible to remove/reduce motion blur in existing footage. This could either be done to improve clarity of footage, or it could also be used to make slow motion effects much more realistic.Obviously, results would vary, depending on the quality of the footage and the accuracy of the motion vector calculations, but this could potentially be a really cool effect. Understandably, such an effect would be slow to render.
In the Preferences\Appearance tab it would be great if we could select a custom color for the "Highlight Color". This would make the UI more customizable and personal to each user. The old color used to be yellow and the current color is blue. But it would be amazing to be able to select any color from a pop up color picker, like we can do for the Label colors. This would be great to change it for fun for a holiday like red for valentine's day or green for St-Paddy's day etc. Please make this happen! I know it's not a top priority, but it would make every user very happy I am sure. Thanks
Most of us professional AE users have machines with quite a lot of RAM these days - mine has 128GB. It is really frustrating when I'm trying to render something, and AE fails due to the 2GB per frame internal memory limit. Using Power Pin in a 32-bit 4K comp will often give this error. Why does this limit still exist? I know 2GB per frame is a lot of data, but in 2023 we are working on machines that can handle that easily.
Create a function to select a layers Children. And also a way to select all layers in a compa, apart from the layers that have parents. This is uselful when creating a new master null and wanting to group everything to the new group, appart of course for the layers that have already been carefull parented to eachother...
Hey nice for you for giving us 2025 After Effects update. But any news about using all effects on 32 bit?
