I would like to see the ability to "pin" projects to the After Effects home screen. This way, commonly used projects (templates, etc.) could be quickly accessed along with recent files. Similar to how Photoshop or Illustrator have "templates" to choose from when you start a new file (and how you can create your own from this area). Pinned projects could be shown at the top of/above the "recent files" listing. The value is always having projects you need/use handy even when you've worked on a ton of other stuff between usages. I see this being something all programs could benefit from. Home screen in AE. "Create New" in Photoshop "Create New" in Illustrator
Please find a way to compact the Puppet Pin animation tracks. It’s quite roomy to have two lines for each Pin.Puppet animations often require a lot of pins, and most of the time, only position is animated. There is currently no way to only show the position tracks of the Pins, it always comes with the ‘Puppet Pin’ header, which is useless.
Once in a while, I need a ‘pixel copy’ of a layer to use in an effect. CC Composite promises to do something alike, but, unfortunately, it does not work when a layer does not match the comp size. What I am looking for is a plugin that copies the exact ‘output’ of a layer, as if it were soloed - RGBA, all pixels, comp size, no transformations. Kind of like how Track Mattes work for alpha and luma. Such an effect would open a world of possibilities - almost like node based compositing.
Heyyy, I was wondering if it would be possible for AE to consider introducing a Commander feature. This feature could function like a command line, allowing users to easily access tools, effects, plugins, shapes, layer styles, scripts, and essentially everything in AE. It's similar to the convenience of Cmd + C in Cinema 4D (please take a look at the attached screenshot). Currently, I'm using FX Console, which is helpful but it's got its limits. I've noticed the search tool under the Help window, which is great, but I was wondering if there could be a shortcut to streamline the process. This way, users wouldn't have to navigate the mouse, click on Help, and then return to the keyboard to type in the tools they need. @dave jacobson has shared this idea & script before, and here is the discussion link: The Commander - A Universal Launcher Script - Adobe Community - 7476888
Currently RAM Preview has two playback options – either it loops, or it doesn’t.It would be great to also have the option to ping pong (play to the end of the preview, then reverse playback and return to the first frame, then play forwards as normal again, ping ponging back and forth). This is particularly useful for animation workflows, but also applicable to VFX workflows as well.
I'm sure this has been posted before on here, but for visibility and emphasis how does AE not have a relinking system like Premiere after 10+ years?? I'm working on a particular project where despite all the assets being scattered across mutliple folders on a server, AE insists as relinking one by one. Most times I don't have this issue as it finds them on it's own, but for whatever reason it's going very slow, manually relinking file by file. This is on a collected project. Regardless of the reason or situation, it wouldn't be an issue if we had a relinking system like Premiere's file manager for footage. Is there some technical reason Adobe hasn't addressed or improved such an important function on large AE projects after a decade??
first: it’s cool we can now import scg :-) I really often get logos in svg. but:the svg imports as one frame long comp in 30fps.my settings for sequenzes are 25fps. I just need the svg as a logo for a duration of 7 sec.Now I have to deep dive into the comp, change the lengh, the fps and it’s not so coolI would like to get the option to import the svg just like a jpg or any ober picture.
I am building an automated system, where I need to connect a lot of layers each to their own Track Matte. I can think of an expression that takes the layer names and link all to a Track Matte with a related name. Unfortunately Track Matte selection is not possible via Expressions.Would be great to have!
Create a Shape Layer. Name it “1”.Duplicate it, using cmd-D (ctrl-D on Windows). See how the layer name of the duplicate is “2”, and above “1”. In many cases, making numbered layers, requires the duplicates appear UNDER the original. This has to done manually for each duplicate. My request: let alt-cmd-D or shift-cmd-D do that in one go: create Duplicate under the original.
Enable the Reference Layer parameter in effects to select layers from any composition in the project, allowing cross-composition layer referencing instead of restricting the selection to layers within the current composition. Also make it expression enabled. These small changes would greatly improve the compositing workflow and bring After Effects closer to a node-based compositing approach.
Please add gpu acceleration Gpu acceleration for Keylight and Matte effects. The are really slow also on powerful machines.
If I have a specific color composition background color for my animation, and export it to an mp4 (or so) it gets black. Would be nice if Ae interprets it as a solid and renders it out as this color.
We need a native UV texture mapper in AE as well as a real vector motion blur for vector passes from blender. Also depth of field has always looked terrible in AE with bad fringing from a depth matte. I’m not asking for AE to be nuke but it could try a little harder on the 3D compositing side of things. Not having every effect be 32 bit in an OCIO setup is pretty rough as well.
I use After Effects for compositing my 3D renders, and I always export 16 or 32 bit EXRs, starting to use ACES. Unfortunately, many, many effects are still only 8 bit, some support 16, and some can do 32. If you don't want to lose me and many other compositors (at least those that are left), please update more effects to 32bit!
It’s quite a hassle to first set the interpretation for one item, then choose ‘Remember Interpretation’ and then ‘Apply Interpretation’ to apply it to others. Why not select a bunch of items and set the interpretation. (also: ‘Rembember/Apply’ is quite a strange flaw in UI - why not ‘Copy/Paste’?)
hi,recently this window pop up. Bc I had an project open and moved files in the Explorer.Won't it be nice if there the opportunity to replace the footage? like in Pr, with an path?
After Effects:Currently, to create a “template” in Output Settings, you click the drop down next to the Output Module and select “Make Template...”Options Presented When Clicking the Output Module settings in the Render Queue in After Effects ...then have to select “Edit” from the middle of the screen…Output Module Templates Dialog Box, Creating a New Template And then you can edit your settings. Output Module Settings Dialog Box This is the same dialog box that can be accessed by simply clicking the queued item’s Output Module Settings in the Render Queue:Queued Composition in Render Queue I believe it would be beneficial to have a “Save as Preset” or “Save as Output Module Template” button on the Output Module Settings page like Photoshop has on their “New Document” dialog box: Photoshop “New Document” Dialog Box - “Save as Preset” OptionHaving the option on the Output Module Settings dialog box would speed up the creation of templates/presets since it can reduce clicks overall. Also
Currently there is no way to animate trim paths on live text. A User needs to Convert to shapes or masks and go from there. Meaning that any edits to the text become laborious.Thos animation is a common one too, that I see a lot in titles and motion design.Adding a "strokes Trim Paths" text animator option would be a great way to implement this, once added you set the trim path speed. then use either the range, wobbly or expression selectors to animate. And honestly I don't know why its not part of AE already. as a text animator it would have great control as the selectors have great flexibility.C'mon Adobe.
This might be a long shot and I dont know if its technically possible to implement, but I think this would be a major improvement to after effects as a whole. I think the easiest way to explain it is looking at the dynamic link feature between premiere and AE, but from AE projects to AE projects.I would have plenty of usecases for this and I it would elevate professional workflows into new heights.Just like having your own library of functions in coding, that you can link in multiple scripts, updating or adding new logic to the source function which automatically integrates in the scripts where its linked to. In this case the function would be an After effects project that you can reuse and implement in other projects and automatically updates in all linked projects if theres changes to the master project.Reallife example: I have a beverage flatlabel that I wrap around a beverage can with UV Map. I use this Label in multiple projects, since theres plenty of different campaigns and
Two things that would make a huge difference:Bend / Twist deformersRight now extruded shapes are completely rigid. It would be really useful to have simple deformers like bend and twist so we could curve ribbons, banners, UI bars, arcs, etc. directly inside After Effects. These are very basic modifiers in most 3D tools, but in AE the only options are exporting to Cinema 4D, or using blender, using plugins, or building awkward workarounds with multiple layers.Boolean operations for 3D shapesboolean operations (subtract, intersect, union) for extruded shapes. For example: cutting holes in a 3D object , creating frames or cut-outs , combining shapes into more complex formsRight now there’s no way to do that in AE’s 3D system, which makes the modeling side of it very limited.Even basic tasks often require switching to another program, which breaks the workflow.deformers and boolean operations would make the system much more practical for everyday motion graphics work.
Hi Adobe team, I’d love to see a major update to the 3D Camera Tracker in After Effects — something that brings it up to modern AI standards and makes it a truly intelligent scene analysis tool instead of just a point solver.Right now, the 3D Camera Tracker works, but it still feels very manual and outdated comparatively. We get tracking points and a solved camera, but we still have to figure out ground planes, scale, object anchoring, occlusion, and scene layout ourselves. What I want to see is an AI-enhanced version of the 3D Camera Tracker powered by Sensei. Something that understands the scene, not just tracks it.What This Could Look Like1. Context-Aware Auto Camera Solve AI-assisted solve that distinguishes between static and dynamic objects Better drift prevention by ignoring moving people, cars, etc. Real-time confidence feedback so we know if a solve is solid 2. Automatic Ground & Room Detection Auto floor detection and proper world orientation Basic room bui
The title says it all. Auto-save should function in the background and NOT pop up with an annoying progress bar every time it runs. Gets REALLY bad on large project files when auto-saves take up to a min every single time.Total workflow killer. Should be just like taking snapshots of your project in the background while continue working. The dialog even pops up and steals focus from another app you're in.
In Blender there is a really cool way to move keyframes around, you can select one key frame and turn on proportional editing where a sphere of influence pops up and you can adjust the size. it's great for stuff like gradually increasing the size of the bezier points in the graph editor. here is an example of it in blenderhttps://youtu.be/hfzfykbbjBw
Timeline folders. We have them in Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator... precomps can utterly ruin your work and is NOT an alternatives to having a simple folder hierarchy - especially when dealing with shape layers or anything that requires continual rasterization.
In After Effects versions up to 2024 it was possible to enable UI theme colorizingvia internal console/debug settings (theme colorizing).Starting from AE 2025 this functionality has been removed or disabled, and there is currently no way to customize UI accent / highlight colors. This negatively affects:– readability for long sessions– accessibility (eye strain, color sensitivity)– user workflow consistency across versionsRequest:Please restore UI theme color customization (even as an experimental or advanced option)or officially expose it in Preferences → Appearance. This feature already existed and worked before AE 2025.
