HiI recently installed Frame 16. It allows me to open a book or a document, and then crashes.I checked for license issues, and it seems fine.I am on a Windows 10. ThanksUday
When I resize an image in FrameMaker 2020, the anchored frame resizes to the image automatically. How do I turn this off. Is there an FDK/ExtendScript property that I can use to turn it off? Thank you.
Can Frame 5.5 be used together Windows 10?
In our EDD, we have a Section element that consists of a mandatory Heading element. It can then be followed by any of the following optional elements, in any order and they can appear multiple times:Navigation (Table element)Paragraph (<TEXT> element)HowToInstruction (Table element)FieldList (Table element)Section (Section element, creating a sub-section)In our Conversion Table (to apply structure to our unstructured documents), I have a rule to wrap the elements. I tried using the | symbol (any one of the items can occur): E:Heading, (Navigation* | E:Paragraph* | HowToInstructions* | FieldList* | Section*), as well as the & symbol (items can occur in any order): E:Heading, (Navigation* & E:Paragraph* & HowToInstructions* & FieldList* & Section*). In both cases, the rule will only work if all the elements appear. If any of the elements are missing, the rule doesn't work.
We have recently purchased additional licenses of subject software for use on an air-gapped network. We are not able to install. What is the method to accomplish?
Hello All,Please avdise ...When I try to open and XML file in the DITA example fm set (TRAVELDITA) in ..C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2017\Structure\xml\TravelDITAI get an error message stating "Unable to open file!" and "Try opening it manually and checking for errors". How should I open it manually? What errors should I look for?I also tried coping TRAVEL DITA from another colleague's machine but still the same problems. ThanksRoy
Hello, Does FrameMaker 2020 have change control or does it need a CMS to be integrated? Thank you
Hi all,I'm hoping someone can help with this. I'm using FrameMaker 2019/DITA and have a document that is combined English/Chinese Simplified. I have activated the Adobe Heiti font using Creative Cloud and have some of the DITA elements defined to use this font in FrameMaker. All works well in authoring. However, when I publish to PDF via the FM book route, and enable the Use Acrobat Disiller for PDF generation option in the Publish Setting dialog, no PDF is produced. This is the error displayed in the Distiller window:%%[ Error: undefinedresource; OffendingCommand: findresource ]%%Stack:/CIDFont/AdobeHeitiStd-Regular{--pop-- 4 --index-- --add--}/AdobeHeitiStd-Regular-hf/WinCharSetFFFF-H/AdobeHeitiStd-RegularH%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%Distill Time: 00 Hour(s) : 00 Minute(s) : 00.156 Second(s)**** End of Job **** If I disable the Use Acrobat Disiller for PDF generation option
I am trying to create a 1pt frame border around my Framemaker book images. I created an Object Style for an image and named the Object Style: Image Border. I applied the border from the Object Style Catalog (Image Border) to the image I created the Object Style from and the border applied just fine. I clicked on a second image, applied Image Border to it, and the image resizes to the size of the original image that I created Image Border from. I need to find out how the Object Style Image Border resizes when applied to each new image, instead of resizing exactly to the same dimensions as the orginal image every other time.
Hi!I am working on an EDD and when i validated it, it passed stating document is valid. However, when I imported it into my test document I am getting an error. In the Structured View, I am getting an <INVALID CONTENT> at the Graphic element.I am confused why it is saying the document is valid but when imported and used I am getting an error. As additional information, I put the Graphic element into a container which I am not sure is correct but I had a previous error and since it a general rule for a Section, I had to provide more information for the Graphic element.I thank you in advance for your assistance with this question and hopefully a resolution. Thanks,Eddie

When I save a FrameMaker 2020 file down to FrameMaker 2019 using ExtendScript, the top line of the file still says <MakerFile 16.0> so it won't open in 2019. It works in the interface with File > Save As. #target framemaker var doc; doc = app.ActiveDoc; saveDoc (doc); doc.Close (true); function saveDoc (doc) { var params, returnParams, i; params = GetSaveDefaultParams (); returnParams = new PropVals (); i = GetPropIndex (params, Constants.FS_FileType); params[i].propVal.ival = Constants.FV_SaveFmtBinary150; i = GetPropIndex (params, Constants.FS_AutoBackupOnSave); params[i].propVal.ival = Constants.FV_SaveNoAutoBackup; i = GetPropIndex (params, Constants.FS_FileIsInUse); params[i].propVal.ival = Constants.FV_ResetLockAndContinue; FA_errno = 0; doc.Save (doc.Name, params, returnParams); if (FA_errno !== 0) { PrintSaveStatus (returnParams); } }
We have files made with FM11. We started to use FM2020 and some files give message "At least one original filter used for graphics imported by reference is not available, or the imported file's format has changed. An alternative filter may be used if the file is recognized as a graphic FrameMaker can import." when opening. When you scroll the file at some point FM2020 crashes. Any ideas what to do with those files?
If I create a new empty page in FM, using px instead of mm/cm/in, FM automatically uses a dpi setting of 96 to convert the size, so I end up with a 20" wide sheet for a page size based on the Full HD format (1920 x 1080 px). In e.g. Adobe InDesign, I can adjust the dpi setting so that the whole thing is no wider than a A4 page in size, but in FrameMaker I haven't found any way to adjust it. Am I missing something, or can this setting simply not be changed? FM version used: 15.0.5.838 (2019 release)
I have the following, simplictic table, in a document:(text is the paragraph style currently applied to each cell). In my Conversion Table, I have the following rules:When I apply the Conversion Table to my document, I get the following resultMy problem is that the Image element should be wrapped in the ScreenshotCell (TC) element and not the default CELL (TC) element. For some reason, the highlight conversion rule is completely ignored and I can't figure out why.
Hi! I'm quite new to structured framemaker and I'm considering migrating legacy unstructured documentation to XML. In legacy documentation along with ordinary tables I have Note and Attention messages in a table format:The icon is a paragraph format with a Frame above Pgf., and the table has shadingWhen I generate a conversion table, framemaker creates only one set of elements for table cells, rows, etc. I'm a bit confused about how do I handle those tables both in conversion table and in EDD file so that I can save the converted file to XML, then load it and get the same table format? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
Is there an alternative to using a Conversion Table to apply structure to an unstructured document?I have a simple document, with 3 headings and a table:(So the paragraphs styles are easilty identified, the text is the actual paragraph style applied)In the EDD that will be used, each Heading is a new Section. Tables are children to a Section. The expected Structure should be:Section Heading Section Heading Table Using the following Conversion Table:I get the following result:When the result should be:
It takes several minutes to open any document that is full of references to image files. The problem appears to be related to the extreme level of file attribute reads ("attr get" column when running fsstat -F 3) and lookup operations the application insists on performing before the document is available for editing. This is completely different from the latency seen when each page and new images are loaded. I typically see >300 attr gets, and >400 lookup ops *per second* when opening one of these files, so I could see over 100,000 of each before the file comes up. This is for a 50 page document with ~3 images per page. I looked into whether this was a hard disk latency issue, since it would take a spinner significant time to respond to all of these requests, even with small data per request, but it looks like virtually all of the requests were being handled by the filesystem cache (RAM). Does anyone know why all of these requests are being made, and if there is any way to get ar
In developing our EDD, I've converted our Paragraph Styles to Format Change Lists, simply because all our Paragraph Styles are really variations of a single base Pararaph Style. Is this the best approach? Or is it better to keep our current Paragraph Styles and use the ParagraphFormatTag property instead?Historically we've always had problems enforcing paragraph styles, instilling (or at least trying to) in our writers not to make changes to the pre-defined Paragraph Styles. We want to prevent our writers from making these changes and enforce the pre-defined styles.
Having spent the last two days trying to creat a conversion table to apply structure to our unstructured documents, only to have it apply the correct structure 40% of the time (due to the position of the element in the structure being dependant on the context in which it is used), I'm curious to know if there is an alternative/easier/better way of applying structure to an unstructured document without doing it manually.
In our EDD, we have Chapter as the highest-level element. Each Chapter can contain multiple Section elements. Each Section element contains a Heading element (containing Level context rules) and a Paragraph Element. In turn, each Section element can also contain a Section element, up to 6 levels deep (including the first level). In our unstructured documents, we have a different Paragraph Style for each Heading level (H1 - H6).I've created a Conversion Table to apply structure to one of our unstructured documents as a test. I have no problems wrapping our Heading Paragraph Styles into the Heading element. My problem is when I have lower level headings (H2 - H6). These are wrapping in individual Section elements, rather than (sub)Section elements. To illustrate:In my unstructured document, I have (indentation for visualisation only):H1Paragraph H2 Paragraph H3 Paragraph When I apply structure, end up with (indentation for visualisation only):
In testing the problem I reported in Bug where the Element Validation panel/pod is completely absent I am repeatly running the process to add and remove line numbers. This was working as expected up until after I created the aforementioned post. Today, with 2019, I end up with a corrupted display as shown below:Ctrl+l does not work. If the document is closed and then re-opened, the display is still corrupted. This does not occur with 2020 with update 1 (16.0.1.817). The only change is that I installed a Windows update first thing this morning KB5003173. There are no reports that I can see that report graphics problems related to this update. When the link to Update 8 is working I will try that to see if the problem is fixed. Jon
On the page Issues fixed in FrameMaker (2019 release) (adobe.com)clicking the here link in the text for Update 8, shown belowresults in the oops page shown below. Please fix this.
We have the following elements in our EDD:Section, which is the 'container' for the document text, etc.Activity, which is the 'container' for practical exercisesList for ListsListItem for the items within the List elementComment, which (using the Frame Below Pgf format) adds a line for handwritten textBoth the Section and Activity containers are ValidHighestLevel elements. The Activity element cannot be a child of the Section element. The List element can be used in both the Section and Activity elements. Formatting is the same regardless, so the same element is used. The Comment element is a child element of the ListItem element. However, the Comment element can only be used if the parent List element (ListItem < List) is a child of the Activity element (ListItem < List < Activity). If the List element (ListItem < List) is a child of the Section element (Listitem < List < Section), the Comment element cannot be used. To illustrate:Scenario 1SectionListLisItemComme
Hi, I am creating an EDD for a Structured Template. I just got the following error and need to know how to fix it:General rule for the element (Image) was expecting another item: "^<GRAPHIC>".I think that it wants me to define the anchor frame but it does not appear under AttributeList. Thanks in advance for your assistance!!Edrice66
