FrameMaker

Hi there,some of my images need manual scaling because they are too small. I do that in Object Properties > Scaling (%). Then I click Apply and Save. In the open FrameMaker sheet, the scaling seems to apply, the image gets bigger, but when I build the PDF, the image is small again.I thought that maybe I have to import them in the right scale and tried this, but even then, FM automatically rescales (only some of!) them supertiny.Does anybody know how I can solve this issue? Any suggestions are welcome! 🙂 Thanks a lot for your help! 

Working on a single source file to export as a .pdf and .html 5. Dozens of images, all screen shots since this is a software IFU. All of the captions were added in FM. This looks great in .PDF. However, the images are too blurry to read the screen content. I can get them to the correct size, but the distiller just shrinks the quallity too much. I am going to have to find a very time consuming workaround if i can't fix this. Any guidance is appreciated.  I did create a distiller setting that does not compress images . . . to no success.

Hi All,In my C: Drive I have a fodler called Test (C:\Test) with two files inside of it.abc.fmxyz.pdfIn my abc.fm file, I have Syntex which says "See xyz.pdf" Question: In my abc.fm file, how can I create "See xyz.pdf" as Hypertext (or link) so when I publish it as PDF file, it shows "See xyz.pdf " as a hyperlink and when clicked it opens xyz.pdf file in seperate window. Please Note: When I send client folder Test with abc.pdf and xyz.pdf.When they open the abc.pdf and click on the link "See xyz.pdf" it should be able to open it considering they both are in the same folder. I know I had done this before many times in FM12 without a problem but it appears that FM2017 and FM2019 does not have these option anymore. I would apprecaite any help that you can provide.Thank you.

In our company, we share the site dictionary to control hyphenation. This works fine with our FM2015 instances but not with FM2017. Does FM2017 work differently with the site.dict?The entries from our site.dict are not included in:%userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Adobe\Linguistics\UserDictionaries\FMSiteDictionary\all\added.txt

Hi, I have a 80 chapter book file that displays in a three 'tiers' tree in the LH side window. I use this constantly to organise files in the book. When I make a change to the Master Template, a paragraph style change for example, and want to apply that template to all files in the book, I do this using Import Formats. To do this all files must be visible in the tree view, that is all the + icons must be expanded out to - icons. In a larger book this is time consuming as I don't generally leave the tree view expanded fully as I'm working with it.Is there a way to 'expand all' and 'collapse all' in this LH side tree view? I have searched and can't fined where to do this. Thanks, Mark 

I am a tech writer taking on the task of updating technical manuals, which were originally developed in FrameMaker 2017. I was given the latest FrameMaker 2019. When I first opened the documents, they required for me to update since they were developed in an earlier version (2017). I did this and it seems the first 6 of 7 volumes went fairly smoothly. No major issues, until I came to Vol 7. It seems the document had numerous imports of text from Word which maybe the source of my problem. Section 7.4 (Heading2) works. Inserting Sub Section 7.4.1 (Heading3) works. But, when I insert the next Sub Section (Heading3), it shows 7.4.1 again.It will not advance! I checked everything! Variables, Document and Paragraph Formating with numbering. The good Sub Sections (3.1.1, 3.1.2 etc) are fine and the formats are the same. I did a little testing and inserting Heading3 on the next sentence after the first 7.4.1 and Heading3 showed 7.4.2! I then moved my insert point to the next paragraph and Head

This is a follow-up post to my previous thread titled "How can I save anchored frames as SVG during XML export?". I've been mostly successful with using Inkscape for EPS-to-SVG conversion of FrameMaker anchored frames during XML export. However, FrameMaker's EPS export filter has a bug where it omits line properties (dashed, solid, etc.), which renders thousands of figures in one of our books incorrect (they use solid and dashed lines to indicate the result of geometric operations). The venerable MIF2Go utility internally uses a FrameMaker-supplied SVG export filter, described in this post from 2010: That's correct; in mif2htm.ini, you set: [FDK]GraphicExportFormat=SVG Then Mif2Go tells Frame to use its native SVG exportfilter. We have books with anchored-frame figures drawn with FrameMaker's native drawing tools. When we export these books as XML, the options in the read/write rules are to save these anchored frames as rasterized (PNG, GIF, etc.) or vector (MIF, CGM, or EPS).   However, we want the contents in SVG format, and attempting to write anchored frames as SVG results in   Cannot export the Framemaker graphic element () in the specified graphic format (SVG).   I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a batchable (linux or other) conversion path from MIF/CGM/EPS to SVGs. I am trying to make my page numbers line up in a custom table of contents. this is not a stand alone or mini toc. i am still learning how to do this the right away so i manually typed in everything shown on the screen. I was curious what the quickest and easiest way to get page numbers to align in the right hand side of the page is. i tryed to follow a guide i found online and i cant get it to work with right tabs stops...and i am questioning if that is the correct way to do it. the dots are typed in manually. i am assuming i will have to delete them and use the tool. hoping for a link for a breif description on how i can line these up and submit the document .  

So as the title says, we are having serious color issues in the output of our PDF user manuals.Instead of there being a single consistent corporate identity color value in our paragraph headings we get one page normal, another page a darker green, and this toggles, not only across the document, but across different manuals for different divisions. Not only headings but also key lines in the sideheads which are vector graphics in the master page. I think the clincher is our old FM 10 templates which are still ok and color consistent, then when we import to new 2019 FM…the same thing happens. To me that means it’s a FM 2019 issue. I’ve looked at the Color Definitions and cannot see anything inconsistent. I’ve even tried importing color defs from good chapter to another and it does not work.NOTE. This issue toggles across pages and chapters.Any suggestions greatly appreciated.Martin

Hi everyone, as I wasn't able to find anything in the Adobe Help resources regarding this topic, I was hoping to get some advice from the Community. I am currently testing the trial version of Adobe Framemaker and mainly writing DITA content. When I created several topics, organized them in a ditamap and published the content in PDF, I noticed that the XML-tags do show in the published PDF document (regardless of loads of template editing and formatting that needs to be done). Until now, I couldn't identify where the problem lies. Does this have to do with the XML validation? Or did I simply overlook a little detail in the publication settings? Would be very grateful for any advice here, so thanks in advance. 

In Framemaker 2019 adding some elements like ul,b are reflect on XML view,but some elements like over line,strike through ,table colour etc are not reflecting on XML. What may be the issue.

I am using the built-in "Publish" feature in FrameMaker 2020 to generate Responsive HTML5 output (context-sensitive). The output is located in the Output Folder that I specify in the Publish panel. In RoboHelp, I used to be able to click "Publish" to send only the output files that the developer needs to check in to the application's code. Is there a similar option (button or setting) somewhere in FM 2020 to deliver only the necessary output files to the developer and, if not, which files do I need to manually copy and deliver?

I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but the Publish pod's insistence on creating a subdirectory of the selected directory in the Output Folder field is a PITA.   I want my output file to be saved to where I said to put it, not in someone else's idea of an appropriate storage location.   I would also like the option to set preferences in FM so that the Output Folder defaults to the directory holding the document being printed, not into an unwanted subdirectory in whatever the prior selection was.   And yes, I've just put in a Feature Request for this, because this is pants.   Yes, it's been a day and this idiocy is just adding to it. I'd rather use the Publish pod, it's faster. But I'm using File > Save as PDF because at least I know where the PDF file is going to be saved and have the opportunity to move it if I need to.

Recently purchase FrameMaker 2019. It is installed on other machines in our company. When printing/writing a PDF from FrameMaker all the fonts are defaulting to Courier. Steps from FrameMaker - Printer, select Adobe PDF printer, turn on bookmarks, turn off .ps file. All the other machines in the office creat a good PDF. We have uninstalled the adobe PDF printer several times. NEED HELP ASAP

i am geting inconsistent fonts in framemaker, see this page i attached an attachment the top Title 5.5.3 Grease Setup Stand appears bolder and darker then lower one 5.5.3 Grease flinger . anyone know why this could be? I have related font style in the snip. thanks!

Hi all,I've been having a bit of trouble deleting XML objects with ExtendScript's native delete() function. Basically I have an XML object being passed into a function like this:makeChanges(XMLObj, XMLObj.child1);makeChanges(XMLObj, XMLObj.child2);makeChanges(XMLObj, XMLObj.child3);function makeChanges(object, element){     if (condition)          delete element;}However, the child element is not deleted, I suspect because the "element" variable reference is still active. If the code is changed to explicitly delete the object like so:     if (condition)          delete object.child1then everything works just fine, but I make quite a few calls to this function and would like the code to be re-usable if possible. I know JavaScript has a removeChild() function for XML, but does anyone know if there's an ExtendScript workaround? I've looked through the documenta

I’m looking for guidelines on using conditional text. Our company has grown, and as the product line grew, the number of conditional text tags grew. We are up to 30 tags and still growing. I have been petitioning my colleague to start breaking this system down a bit, as I fear it is becoming a house of cards. Colleague has been here 20 years and grew with the system – it's the only one he's used. He sees nothing wrong with it. The tags are in his shorthand. When I mentioned that anyone new wouldn't understand them, his response was that they’d learn them eventually. Also, it’s starting to get to the point where certain sentences are being mis-tagged, causing numerous errors. Are there any guidelines that I can reference that say when the usage of conditional text is getting too large so that it is not just my word?  Milmacrose

can creating a stand alone Table of Contents Alter Text and do other weird formatting things within your document. i dindt have any problems before i tryed to do a stand alone table of contents 

Helle all, I have a problem when i pulbish file contain arabic text in italic style, text dont appper italic at all. in my try to fix this, i tried print ps file then use distiler to get PDF. and yes the italic apper correct in arabic text but the colors changed and became very diffrent.   Is there a soultions to fix italic font in publish?   font i use : Arial.
