Barb Binder triggered my interest in creating an equivalent Find/Replace for FM (see here).I have an idea of an UI which allows to insert Regex elements by selection from panel with drop down etc.. This shall be opened on click on the button RegEx:BTW it seems that FM does not check the validity of a RegEx: ^([IVX]+)(.does not create an error message if used for Find. FM just tells “Nothing found” The error is obvious: a mismatch in parentheses.FM provides three flavours of RegEx syntax; Perl (the default), Grep and Egrep (enhanced Grep). There is a t least one significant difference betwee these flavours: handling of line breaks in the dot operator (any character). See the extensive discussion of this in the RegExBuddy by Jan Goyvaerts .Therefore it is (for all but simple cases) necessary to know what is implemented (in FM. The last few weeks I've noticed that I cannot use the character palette. When I click Insert > Character > Character Palette, all that happens is that the Insert entry on the menu bar is deselected. The same thing happens with Hex Input. I checked all the other items on the Insert menu, and they all work. I've tried a number of suggestions provided on the FrameUsers list, including trying to change screen resolution (tricky, I'm already at the highest), moving to using the laptop screen only, variations on the Windows+Shift+arrow keys ... nothing works. I thought briefly it might be a corrupted program because Frame was giving me some odd errors when I closed it, but I've reinstalled with all updates, no longer get the errors on close out, and I'm STILL not seeing either the palette or the hex input.It isn't a TERRIBLE issue, since I've already created variables for most of the non-standard characters (mostly fractions) that I use and know keyboard shortcuts for most of the rest,

I’m a subscriber to the Technical Communication Suite. The 2019 release of FrameMaker (version 15.0.7.973) is currently installed on my PC. How do I upgrade to the latest (2020) version? Thank you.

Hello, I am looking for an ExtendScript equivalent of the FrameMaker command File > Publish > Basic HTML. Specifically, I would like to see how the command identifies and assigns filenames to the graphics. For example, inset_0.jpg, inset_1.jpg, and <filename>001.jpg. I need to write an ExtendScript that exports the graphics from a FrameMaker file, and I would like that script to use the same logic that the File > Publish > Basic HTML command uses so that the graphic filenames are named in the same way. Take care, Jason

Hello there,what I want to do is to iterate through all frames with pictures in my doc. Greetings,  My coworker is having font issues with Frame 2019/Windows 10. I've copied all of my fonts to a folder for her and she installed them, but she's still getting a range of font issues. This is a legacy document that has had many font replacements over the almost two decades.  In the attached image, you'll see that questions marks are substituted for apostrophes, bullets and quotes (among other things). Any help is deeply appreciated!   

I've run into a very weird problem when generating HTML5 after the latest Frame 2019 update to 15.0.7.973.Wherever there are single straight quotes in text, if I generate HTML5, one of a couple of different things happens, based on the exact position/pairing of the apostrophe.If something says "clients' rights," the ouput removes both the apostrophe and the spacing, e.g. "clientsrights."If something says "client's right to appeal the decision," the output removes the apostrophe and everything after it, e.g., "client."  The text removal doesn't run past the paragraph marker.The text appears normal in the PDF output. The text appears fine in the Frame file. There is another oddity--when I prepared examples for this post, I copied the the relevant statement into a Word document. When I paste directly, the resulting text has the same issues as the HTML. If I paste as Unformatted, the text is correct. I performed a lot of troubleshooting to figure out the issue, but I'm stump

Is there an easier way to get content from a *.csv file into a Frame table? I can export a bug query to csv, but the only way I can see to get that into Frame is copy/paste. Any tips? Thanks!Cindy 

In the Find/Change dialogue under Find we can select from Anchored Frame to Variable of Name.Amidst this long list of objects there is Publisher.What is this?A leftover of Macintosh times? 

Hi there, I have a very basic question but I couldn't find an adequate answer for me yet.I just started trying to write a jsx script to select the first graphic in the document which lies within an anchored frame. I want to get the File name of this graphic and replace the whole graphic+frame with just the file name of the referenced graphic.That's my plan so far... But I don't really understand how to even select the graphic.I read some documents and found stuff like "NextGraphicInDoc" etc. So I tried:var doc = app.ActiveDoc;var graphic = doc.NextGraphicInDoc; I tried several other things like:doc.NextAFrame.FirstGraphicInFrame; But I always get undefined as output. So I clearly don't understand the DOM on how to approach the elements of the doument properly and use them.Could someone maybe enlighten me? I think once I get the gist of how to handle this properly I can get further myself but I am stuck at the beginning. Thanks in advance. I also appreciate good

I am getting too frustrated by the way template updates are. That is I do the same procedure 10 times and 1 time it works. For example, I would like to change the tag for Chapter to Kapitel, I go to the corresponding reference page of the TOC template and apply my changes via the paragraph designer then update style. Sometimes it works most of the times just shows the previous status. Or when I apply margins to the page in the master pages same story. What is the trick here?

1. Can I change the language for a specific document without editing all paragraph tags? 2. Where do I get new dictionaries not needed at time of software install? Background - I am in the US and have begun working on documents for other markets. I want to be able to use English(UK) and French(Canadian).  Because the documents all use the same corporate template (which I do not control), I am hoping to avoid having to edit the paragraph definitions. Thanks for any suggestions!MaryHS

I'm in FrameMaker 15.0.4.751 and am still just learning my way around. Simple question (I hope): What is the best way to do figure captions in FrameMaker? I see that tables are captioned automatically, but figures (or anchored frames) aren't. From what I've read, I can use a text frame, or I can create a table for holding figures. I'm not sure which of these would work best for me, or if maybe there are other options I haven't stumbled across yet. Below are the details of my project. I'm not sure if they're all relevant to my question above, but I'm including them just in case they are. This is a FrameMaker book for multiple products that are very similar, using conditional text for the differences from product to product.Many of the images will have condition tags, and all are to have captions that are numbered via auto-numbering. I am using FM 2019 to 'Publish' to robohelp's html5 output. In the output I see the glossary terms have the exact appearance of cross-reference and hyperlinks (blue with an underline). Is there a way to customize the output appearnce of glossary terms? Why are they blue with an underline, where is that default setting and can I change it? Is it in a css file? Is the file in my FM folder or my RH folder? Any help on this topic is greatly appreciated.-William

I made a TOC in FM 12 and it is ok. If I make a TOC in FM2019 an extra line with dots and also pagenumber is generated. In red circle. Anyone have the same issue and know how to remove the extra line?

Having not worked with FrameMaker for the past 10 years (I moved from Tech Pubs back to ILS Engineering) I am looking for a FrameMaker Reference book to bring me back up to speed for a business opportunity.  I was an ACE for FrameMaker 5.5, is there still he opportunity to do this?

I need to remove the hyphens that are occurring in a lot of paragraphs. I am trying to keep the text in select indent parameters for a service manual. How can i remove the constant hyphens but still make the text-align on the right and left-hand side. See attached photo. The text boxes on the lower right side. My documents all look like this. The pressure is on at my job, and i have to make sure these look uniform and professional. I appreciate the help.

  While working in Framemaker 2019 on Win 10, the working window keeps changing size and blacking out.  I have to keep resizing the window so I can see anything.  I save a doc, the frame resizes to about 1 inch high by 2 inches across while blacked out.  Then I have to minimize the window, restore the window, then resize the window, until I save the doc again.  Then same thing.   It seems to be a setting of some kind, because the Framemaker starts up in this annoying setting, and reverts to it constantly.  Any ideas?  Thank you

I found this little gotcha when converting plugins from 20-17 to 2019 for a client. The call to the ScriptingSupport client does not return any error indication if the script file does not exist. This took longer than it should have to resolve. If the call had returned an error, say FE_NameNotFound, the problem would have been immediately obvious. The second script does not exist and ScriptingSupport returns no indication of this. Note that FA_errorno will only have non zero values if F_ApiCallClient itself has problem. (newbie alert) I'm upgrading from FrameMaker 2015.  One of the problems with some inherited scripts is that errors that occur in automated scripts bring up dialogs that halt the batch process.  Is it possible in FrameMaker 2020 to have batch jobs run without bringing up error dialogs and perhaps directing all error output to a log?  Does that require any particular version to get that kind of support?

I would like to make a selection on a document (manually) before I run a script to count the paragraph tags that specific selection contains. Say I have 22 bulleted notices in a certain section (all Flow A). I find it error-prone to manually count them. I think a script is perfect for this purpose but I cannot figure out how to apply counting tags to my selection. Can anyone help me?

Hi FM experts. I have received a old reviesion of framemaker files i need to update and FM crash on som of the pages not all, but it is always the same place in the documents. I have located it is every time there is an inset with a |.bmp file (maybe other cases as well). I have reset preference, updated Microsoft.net, have the latest upgrade of FM2019. There is no dumb file created. Frame Make just stop responding when I come to the specific position in the document. I can open all the pictures with no problem from explore.  I hope someone have a good hint what to do, to fix it. Thanks in advanceDavid  

Greetings,Is it possible generate a TOC for the documents that are in a Folder? By "Folder" i mean the logical container that is possible to add in the Book pane. I know you can solve this by using sub-books to a top-level book but the disadvantage with those is that, (a), you don't see the sub-book's documents and, (b), updating the top level book does not update sub-books.Kind regards,Mats
