FrameMaker

We are looking to transfer purchased scripts to a new laptop as the one they are on is faulty. Is this possible and if so how??

Hi, all - I'm creating a 14-chapter FM2019 book, and for some reason, FM is misinterpreting several Chapter files as being created using earlier versions of FM (e.g, FM 11, FM 2017). This is the first time I've seen this issue, and I can't figure out why it's happening - I have multiple versions of FM installed on my desktop PC, but they weren't running, and no Chapter files were downgrade-saved as earlier FM versions. It's possible that a lengthy directory name where the files are saved might be problematic, but we've never had an issue like this occur since we installed FM2019 at my company. Any guesses would be greatly appreciated. Thank You! 

I'm on my third laptop in two years. I had to replaced both other laptops because they kept crashing and I did not unlicense FrameMaker first. I need to install FrameMaker 15 on laptop #3. How?

With well over 1,000 .dita files under my belt working in another environment, I thought I'd give structured FM another try.Quick question from this afternoon's experiment … an Insert Child / Sibling > topicref dialogue that blandly defaults to an empty list of .xml files requires three extra clicks every time I try to select one of my existing .dita files. This will swiftly become tedious. Is there a way of setting the preferences so the default file-extension for this dialogue is .dita? or even 'All DITA documents', which is already an option for the File > Open dialogue.

I am using structured FM 2020. To create my content, I use xml format and DITA. In the xml files, I can set the xml:lang attribute to the language of that topic, e.g: <topic id="bla bla" xml:lang="de"/>, where I set the language to German. Now when I open the xml file in FM, the Language under the Font tab in the Paragraph Designer remains English, ignoring the xml:lang attribute. It means I have to manually change the Language to German.Is there a way to tell FrameMaker spell checker to choose the language which is set in the xml file using the xml:lang attribute?

Hi All,I have edit font name to "AnsanaUPC" and save file FM 2015 (Type Structure) after save and reopen file it appear font name same as before (original font name) it look like cannot update font name in some place.For open FM to non structure it can show as normal. My environment:- Windows 10 Pro 64bit- FrameMaker 2015 Can you please help me solve this? Hi all, We have a number of writers still on Frame 11 and we have inherited some templates created by someone who has since left the company. They used FrameMaker 2017 (I think) to create the templates. My question is, if I buy a Frame 2019 license, can I modify and save these templates in a format that can be used by the Frame 11 users. Unfortunately there is no motivation to upgrade these users to a later version at this time 😞 Thanks in advance, Louise.

Hi, I am using XSLT to transform some XML for import into FrameMaker. I need an entity or character in my XML that will import as a FrameMaker tab character. I tried \t and 	 but they both come in as a single space. Any help would be appreciated.

FM11 / DITA 1.2I'm trying to set up my EDD to automatically add translated autonumbering text to a top-level header. This is the first time that I have tried t update my templates with changes made to the EDD since upgrading to FM 2017, and I am not having much luck. When I start a new topic using the concept template, it looks like this:But after I import the EDD, that has new component items added, to the template and create a new topic, I get this:I have done this in previous versions of FM without any hitch. What is going on this time?

When you save an unstructured document to XML, FrameMaker uses the XML Mapping Table (part of the Reference Pages).I'm trying to find documentation for this mapping table and its elements (in this case, the Image Format row and which values are possible besides the default 0001IMAGGIF GIF). The Help doesn't seem to contain any information on the Mapping Table. Is there a separate document that describes this?

Hi.I have used FrameMaker for many years, but only recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2019.  I have the most recent build (15.0.3.603).  I have tested this problem on systems running both Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro with the same result.  Both operating systems are fully up to date.Here's the problem.  Grouping two "pure" vertical lines (or one pure vertical line with one or more other lines in certain instances) fails, where a "pure" vertical line is created by holding down the shift key when drawing that line.  The items become grouped, but the grouped object extends to the upper left corner of the page or the anchored frame.  Once grouped, incorrect group dimensions are retained when that group is moved or aligned with other objects.Steps to Reproduce:  In either an anchored frame or a page with no frames, draw two "pure" vertical lines by holding down the shift key prior to drawing each line.  Then, group those two objects.  The group

My FM19 documentation set consists of several FM book. (Somewhat different set of books depending on customer.) For each FM book I generate a separate chm file. The customized set of chm files are merged using a .htm file, into a documentation set.There are many cross-references between the different books/chm files. However, with FM19 I can't get these cross-references to become working click-able links. Instead they just end up as regular text in the chm file.What am I supposed to do to fix this? 

When I click File > Package the resulting ZIP file doesn't contain anything that was outside the FM folder itself.  Is this works-as-designed?  I hope not because we use one consolidated Images folder for the figures we use in all of our documents.  This means that none of my images get packaged.  

I wanted to describe the set up for pargraphs with automatic numbering in Hebrew (Keep in mind: I can not read/understand Hebrew), it is just my example of RTL language.I have a paragraph containing the Hebrew text wihich reads from right to left and want to have it adjusted correctly (on the right marginI. The I wanted it to have an indent of 1cm for automatic numbering.As long as the direction is LTR the layout is OK, but for Hebrew text the numbering should be on the right side, where the reading starts.As soon as I change the direction from LTR to RTL the text mostly disappears behind the right side of the text frame...So I set up the whole thing in FM-13 (2015) which introduced RTL support. We have FrameMaker 2-17  Paragraph Formats for Figures and Tables.In FrameMaker these are just fine in FM2017 as they were in FM12.However, when we generate a PDF from any document or book from FM2017, then there is an additional graphic added to every Figure or Table name.  This is creating a noticeable CHANGE in each and every book that we PDF from FrameMaker.  This shows up in compares and will trigger change notifications in all of our translations.See below the image of an extra line that shows up on each FIGURE and TABLE name.  This was never the case in FM12 to PDF conversion.Our documents are worldwide and require translation, and this kind of issue will increase our translation costs exponentially.We need to hear that someone is addressing this issue ASAP.Please advise.thanks.

I have a book with several files in it.  I had my conditional tags set perfectly, each file had the same tags,  same settings, etc.  Unforutnately another user got into the book and created a bunch of new tags.  So now I have gone into each of the files in the book and deleted the unwanted conditional tags.  If I open each file independently and look at the Conditional Tags pod, each file has the same tags. However, when I go to create the book, I open the first file, in the Show/Hide Conditional Text pod I select the conditions I want display and those I want to hide, and then apply them.  I then highlight each of the other files in the book with the inention of just importing the conditional text settings.  However, as soon as I select the other files, the Show/Hide Conditional Text pod has all of the conditional tags that I have deleted from all the files still listed in the Hide column.  I know they are deleted because I t

I am developing a publishng application that takes externally generated XML files and opens them as FrameMaker book files. The XML file is split into separate book components according to the read/write rules file. This all works perfectly as a manual process, but I need to force FramMaker to open the XML without requesting a file name for the book, is that possible? I want to provide that name in my script but I can't find any way to set the name of the bookfile throught the API either through  GetOpenDefaultParams()  or by sending parameters to CallClient() for FmDispatcher. Any guidance would be very helpful. If it's not possible I can just pre-process the XML to split it as required.ThanksIan

Hello,I'm working in Framemaker 2019 on an unstructured document. Recently, linked images that I can see within the document, disappear mysteriously before my eyes. It seems to happen when I click near the images to work on another element that is nearby. If I reload the images, they show up again, but I have to rescale them which seems like a waste of time. Any Ideas? thanks,Elo

HI All, I'm trying to create a simple MIF file that contains tables and can be read via FM.  I need this structure for my engineers, so that they can export data into a pre-defined table format - MIF file that I can read in FM. It will be a register list of hundreds, if not thousands of tables.I have the structure of the table (basically copied the structure given by one of FM's Sample MIF files (included with the FM installation)).I created the table and a short body page by creating 2 MIF files. One MIF file is used as the template file with all my paras/chars/tables/variables/master pages/ etc defined. (It's very long)The other MIF file includes for now, one table (it will include all the tables in the Tbls) and the Text Flow. The table is built basically from a table header and body rows. It has an "include  (template.mif) to call the template file (so that this MIF file is "only" about 300 lines long and easy for my developers to f

Is there anyone who has had to trigger an event from a script? I am building an alternative elements catalog but the PostInsertElement, PostWrapElement and PostChangeElement events are not fired and there might be other clients that use those. Thanks in advance. Jang
