FrameMaker

Hi all, This is my understanding about FDK: (1) The Adobe FrameMaker Developer Kit (FDK) is a set of C libraries and header files that allow you to write Application Programmer Interface (API) clients or plug-ins using the C or C++ programming language. (2) Using the FDK, an API client can perform interactive user tasks and more. It gives programmers direct access to all the objects in a FrameMaker session or document. This includes graphics, text, markers, paragraphs, formats, and more.(3) Only be invoked through FrameMaker application and the FrameMaker must be run parallel with the integration application That means we cannot create a services on cloud to transfrom a Framemaker file to XML by suing FDK? Do you have any ideas for a cloud services to transform a Framemaker file to XML?

I have two Adobe for Teams subscriptions through my job. One is for CC, the other is for FrameMaker.    This morning I decided to reinstall FrameMaker because it had suddenly stopped supporting copying subscript characters from the Character Map into FM documents, even though the font supports subscript characters. (This has happened with multiple fonts over the last few days.)   I log into my Adobe Account. There are two Adobe for Teams subscriptions there. I choose the Adobe for Teams that is my FrameMaker subscription. I click Download.   And I'm taken to the Download/Installation page for the CC apps!   Luckily for me, I still had an installation package for FM on my hard drive, so I was able to run it from there and then install updates, but that was very, very peculiar.   I obviously (and luckily) don't need help from Adobe Support given the length of time support takes these days, but I have no idea who to report this to or even how to check to see

Do we any option of freezing the style in the unstructured .fm files so that, others cannot manipulate them during working. Can anyone help me on this. Thanks,Rakesh

We are working on a manual (unstructured framemaker) and has multiple chapter files worked by different teams people, can I lock/freeze the style so that team do not change the properties of style created. they should have option only to apply the style.

My client knows that FrameMaker is excellent with tables. However she wants a table that is able to be positioned with minimal table designer and paragraph style editing, as in not having to create a table style or use an anchor or anchored frame. The writers she managed at her old position made it look so easy, they could put them anywhere she wanted. I know you can put tables anywhere, but I don't know of a way to do this without the anchors and styles, but I thought I'd therow it out to all of you to see if anyone knows of a method to do this without a massive kluge. Frame 2019 saving the files down to 2017.ThanksRobert

First experiment with converting real FM19 content to HTML 5 … first question :-}I have a variable defined as <Default ¶ Font>, which behaves as expected in FM – it takes the font settings (colour, weight &c.) from the paragraph where it's used. Output to HTML5, the same variable sometimes matches the paragraph, sometimes doesn't. I can't offhand spot any consistency.So – am I doing something wrong? and if so, what should I be doing instead?

Hi! what do I have to change (and where) if I want that FrameMaker give me an error when a element (ex: Bold) is wrap with the same element (Exemple screenshot). For now, when I validate my document in Frame, I don't have error, but in my XML Editor I have 171 errors.  Thankssss!!!!

Has anyone created a ZIP file via scripting - or even via a batch file on Windows 10 ?

i have put ALT text into my images for accessibility of html documents, and save-as HTML.the info i put into Frame does not get copied/transferred into the HTML. i need to produce accessible documents and this is very important. any help?thanks

A new tech writer here opened a FM 2015 file, 5 pages long, and it's displaying pages 1 and 2 at the same time, side by side, and continues to show pages two at a time, side by side, as you scroll down.  Can't find a way to stop it from doing this.  Looked through all the menus and buttons at the top, found nothing.  Don't even know how she accidentally turned that "feature" on.  Very annoying.  How do we turn it off to go back to normal view?

When I try to run the updates for FrameMaker 2019, they don't install, and FrameMaker uninstalls from my computer.Help?

Dears, Hello, recently i've strated to learning conversiontable for effective workflow as using it. However, due to my lack of knowldege, i think i wrongly wrote command on the first col of Conversion Table. The purpose that i want to embody is, put the body elements into body element.(Important thing is, i want to control it freely, such as, if the document has three level of each headings,(heading1, heading2, heading3) only wrap heading 1 and 2 sites. Morever, i've read many times of FM guide - 4 Conversion Tables for Adding Structure to Documents, but only found hierachy leveling is only happnes when Para and Table elements are exactly placed. (It can be my misunderstanding, wrong, and lack of knowldege.) Anyway, if there is a posiible command for putting elements into one element as using conversion table, may you please comment it for saving me? I know it will be super difficult to explain in just words, however, it will be turuly helpful for me!

Hi all, has anybody of You ever used the FrameMaker Project feature?I try to use the Project feature in FM 11 and encounter very dumb behaviour:There is no Open > Project. I need to open the project file in the file systemUsing Open and the set the type selection to FrameMaker Project does not yield any results:There is no means to create a new folder (to put in various stuff) if there are already Locations defined. If I just use the Create Folder button then the folder is created in currently selected location (if locations exist, one is always selected).Even in a yet empty project it is not possible to define such a folder, the button Add Folder is inactive then.The only means to create such a folder is editing the xml file while the Project window is closed (see the first location):  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <project> <location name="FM-files" src="FM-files" isCloud="0"/> <location name="ETB-icons-256" src="..\ETB-icons-256" isCloud="0

I'm using FM 2017 with ESTK 4.5.5.I've been having issues trying to unwrap an element via scripting. I recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2019. When I open up a FrameMaker document locally, all graphics appear fine. If I open up the same document from our network server, the graphics do not display. Now here is the odd part, even though the graphics do not display from the network server, if I PDF the document, the graphics do appear.Any ideas?

I need to make a table with 2 columns but with only one row. I do not want to split the row, and the problem I'm facing is that I have a long table to make and if the content in longer than a A4 page the cell does not go automatically to the next page (like it automatically does in MS Word) because the row continue below the ancor frame and therefore it is not visilbe anymore. Does one of you as a trick?thank youXavier

Dear all,For my compendium book (17 chapters, about 500 pages) I decided to change the format of cross reference from <1-highlight><$paratext></> on page\ <$chapnum>\+<$pagenum> to <hypertext><1-highlight><$paratext></> on page\ <$chapnum>\+<$pagenum>  So that the appearnce changes from this   to this  I changed the format in the first file of the book and imported the Xref formats to all other files in the bookAll files in the book are open.I updated the book multiple times, but the appearance does not change.When workin on a chapter new cross references appear of course in the new format - but I need to change others manually: Double click; Replace.I'm not certain whether this is standard behaviour or a new fault in FM-15.0.5.838 

Dear all,This morning I successfully set up a WebDAV connection to an example server, described the process and imported files from the server.Then I set the computer asleep and later waked it up.For a while I could import graphics from my system, but suddenly the import dialogue (or the New document dialogue) quit and FM terminated without error message or dump.For the open files there were *.lck files left and fortunately also autosave files.Since then I can not use File > New > Document or File > Import > File anymore.Neither restarting FM nor restaring Windows 10  helped.There are no files or folders in $HOME changed (checked modifaction date to be of today).Nevertheless I will re-install FM and see whether this helps. This becomes tough!Have re-installef FM now.Start FM 15.0.0.838CTRL + n briefly displays the dialouge, then ZOING...Will restart Windows again.

I've posted about this topic before (twice already now). Responders have been successful in helping me previously by either having me right-click the file problem chapter in the book and selecting "continue from previous chapter" or selecting "Don't change page count" when selecting the "pagination" option. Now neither of those work.  I had to delete a couple of empty pages in a book file. The first file ended at page viii, but I had to delete page vii and viii because they were empty. The next chapter still starts at page ix, and it needs to start at page vii. Here's what I've tried so far: 1) I open the file. I click Format\Document\Numbering\Chapter tab\Continue numbering from previous chapter in book, click set. That doesn't work. I right-clicked on the file in the book. That didn't do anything 2) Right-click on the file in the book. Select "pagination." Select "Don't Change Page Count". That doesn't work. Open the file and perform the same action. That sti

Hi All,I need help with a text extraction algorithm. Given a string of text inside a larger string, I need to extract a string of a certain number of characters with my given string in the middle. I am going to illustrate it with some nonsense paragraphs, but hopefully it will illustrate when I am trying to do. Here are three paragraphs with the given text "zzzz":123456789 zzzz 1234567890 1 zzzz 12345 6789 1234567 1234 6789 12345678 zzzz 1I want to extract 10 characters with the "zzzz" in the middle. If the "zzzz" can't be in the middle (as in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs), I still want 10 characters. [FM-15 aka 2019]I have tested just now in a new FM session, just opened this one file and packed.Even if i (temporarily) renamed the book file it found all the stuff and made a huge package.In another directory, which does not comprise a *.book file, i can 'package' a single file.Back in the directory with all the book files, I created a MIF from one of the files, removed all statements concernt BookComponent - neverteheless the packager finds all the stuff I do not want to be included...Have no copied the single file and the sub-dirs requied (graphics) to another drive and tried there:The ZIP file containsa subdirectory raphics (jes, g is missing) and the file orking-1.mif (the initial w is missing)A second attempt wit

Looking forward to giving FM another chance handling my DITA files … so I've duplicated a whole set of topics and daringly opened the .bookmap.The good news is, it opens! but now I'm immediately puzzled by the interface. I was hoping for a toggle between file name / topic title, like the one for an unstructured FM .book. All our topics deliberately use short filenames where only the prefix is intended to be human-readable, precisely because the file always contains the title.Any hints on how to display title and file-name so I can navigate efficiently?

Hello.I meet a problem while making a structured FM file. I use the conversion table with such rules:E: ((Para | Figure | MediaObject | Table)*, Section1*)        BodyE:Heading, (Para | Figure | Table)*                                      Section1While conversion (Structure current document) I receive such a log file: Structure Document ReportMessages…Expected "|", "&", or "," connector not found:"[E: ((Para | Figure | MediaObject | Table)*, Section1*)] [Body] []". What does it mean? Where does it expect to meet these connectors?How can I generate "Body" element which may begin with part without "Heading" and not wrapped by "Section1"?Thank you for any advice

Hello,we are having problem with one of our company´s font (czech language font) which is not diplayed correctly in Adobe products (FrameMaker and Reader). Screenshot with not correctly diplayed font and screenshot with error is in attachment. Letters are displayed as a big dots. In FrameMaker there is problem, that PDF could not be generated cause of this font. Error message from screenshot:Can't find or create font "...". Some of the letters could not be displayed correctly or printed correctly. In MS products it's diplayed correctly. 

Hello,I'm exploring the way from unstructured FM document which is made according to the requirements of the publisher to XML file adequate to the predefined dtd.So I've built the EDD, convertion table, r/w rules, another dtd for "save as xml", xslt transformation file, structured application definition.When there are figures or tables in the source doc, I place them in separate anchored frames. After "Structure current document" command the content of these frames appear structured in other flows.How can I insert them (not manually) to the main structure?Appreciate any constructive input.
